HEY Y'ALL there wasn't room in the description box to link what I was wearing, but I can tell you that for the first part of the video it was: a mix of single eyeshadows with the Danessa Myricks colorfix foil in a starring role, patrick ta "she's so LA" on my cheeks, and EM Cosmetics "caramel glaze" true gloss. The blouse is vintage DVF. I had JUST dyed my eyebrows like an hour before filming and I'd shaped them with the patrick ta brow wax. For the second part of the video I had the Nabla Cutie palette on my eyes with Urban Decay heavy metal glitter eyeliner in "Distortion" all over my lids, physician's formula dewy blush elixir in "gorgeous peach" on my cheeks, and Ofra "Truffle" lip gloss. Brows had calmed down by that time and had again been sculpted with the patrick ta brow wax. THANKS FOR WATCHING!

One of the things that stuck out the most to me was that for almost all of your top picks, there was a social aspect to them. You mentioned going shopping with Lauren and Julia, spending time with family at Disneyland, the ladies at the shop near your workplace, etc when you bought those items. I don't have a particular point beyond that, but it makes sense to me! I have a $1 keychain from Paris attached to my wallet and when I thought I had lost it, beyond cancelling my cards, the only thing I really cared about was getting that dang keychain back simply due to the memories it reminds me of and the joy it brings me when I see it. I wonder if some of the clothing items you mentioned are subtle reminders of those joyful times in your life :)

I totally bought the Danessa Myricks eyeshadow in Milky Way after seeing it in your video. So yesterday late I wanted to tap on some glitter over tired eyeshadow. Soon it was glitter on my nose, forehead, cheeks etc. I was a 51 year old Glitter Fairy Princess!!!! It’s your fault but I’m not mad at it!

I’ve always gone thrift shopping with my mom since I was little and for some reason we randomly went in February not knowing it would be one of the last times for a while that we could go to a restaurant to catch up and then splurge on nice new clothes that I otherwise would not buy. I cherish the pants and art I picked up that much more , I so appreciated your similar take on your purchases pre-COVID ☺️

When I finally need to retire that one, I will absolutely invest in another with a timeless cut/style with absolutely no regret. You’re right- the versatility and quality make it such a good “investment”.

MC Weaver, I should mention I also got a couch from there off craigslist and it was in pretty much new condition, but the fabric wore horribly even though we are not rough o. things. I bought a new couch from lazy boy that we’ve had much longer and the fabric is still in tip top shape even though it has gotten more use. For my money I would be really worried about risking the price of a crate and barrel couch.
@HannahLouisePoston
@HannahLouisePoston 4 жыл бұрын
yes, it is a Crate & Barrel couch but we bought it at a used furniture warehouse in Ann Arbor, Michigan for $100! It has a huge faded spot on the back (the black sheepskin is covering it in this video) and it's a bit dingy IRL, but good design endures. The PILLOWS are a different story. They were handmade by Palestinian women in Gaza, it's traditional Palestinian embroidery. I bought them one by one from the organization Cross Stitch 4 Palestine.

Hearing you talk about your leather jacket made me miss wearing outerwear! I think you hit the nail on the head why a good outerwear can garner a lot of love. I'm from somewhere tropical so I never found much use of outerwear here, but I scored a basically perfect jacket and coat when I studied in the UK for a year. I practically wore the same jacket or coat everyday for the year, but I loved them and they basically became part of my identity there. They're still two of my favourite things I own even though I don't wear them anymore.

I love uour final thoughts on this. Because I find that sometimes the things I love the most are things I didn’t know I would. I love these ranking videos! I do love all HLP videos, but these ones are especially fun. They really help me think about value in terms of my own purchases. And also give me some good haul-ish vibes that soothe me, without being as triggering as hauls in terms of shopping! Also, I forgot how much I loved that little green and black bag that you showed in the picture of you in the leather bomber, I think you said it was a gift, maybe from your lovely sister? But I can’t find the video you talked about it in! (Prepositions! 😒) Can you remind me what brand it is? Not that I’m in the market for a bag, but would love to do some online ogling

My most valuable thing I bought this year is funnily your last one (not incliding the sad sport saga) is my clothing rental subscribtion. I actually went up a tier two weeks before quaranteen because I was supposed to have sooooo many events and trips and at first I regreded the money spend. But oh my has it been the Light of my Quaranteen being able to wear all these amazing Finnish designer pieces around the house and feel my fantacy. I have rented both designer lounge ware (like your aviator suit) and glitter and sparkle just for me. I even bought this one kaftan that I had rented just when everything srarted and they had to pause the rentals and I eneded up living in that kaftan for weeks. For me not owning those clothes is key - owning and buying things is way too much pressure for me so renting them is just the best. Like right now I have a dress that I loved when I tried but probs wont wear at all outside the home, but the blouse I rented is a gem. Ah, I love rent Ingman clothes!

That makes sense about the moving target of our tastes and joy. I find that a lot! I'm also struck by your discussion of taste and how I have no interest in being performative in that way. I like my house to be comfortable and look pretty to me, and if that means not mowing the lawn so the bees are everywhere, for example, which I've had friends frown upon in the past as messy and weird, then that's what I'm going to do. I know people at work think I'm weird for rolling up in bright teal and turquoise eyeshadow but I'm not interested in other people's taste or fashion house's dictation of what is stylish or worth 500 dollars just because they say it is (surely at cost to make it it can't be 500 or above in cloth and time?). Essentially I just think that your idea of focusing on patience and what makes you happy, rather than a performance or status symbols, is just what I should be focusing on. Are luxury fashion house clothes not just another example of a fantasy self and being more wealthy than we are? Although you're totally right that luxury skincare and makeup degrading a lot faster, but with a moving target of joy and pleasure I just think I'd be bored of that beautiful frilly top in 5 years and my circumstances may have changed and I may need to have more mum clothes or something and would wish for that money to spend on my children's education or something. But that's just me and obviously you're a different person and probably have more staying power with things and I'm glad you still love them :) Love you and your channel xxx

I’ve had a realization recently about wanting to moderate the amount of stuff I have now that overspending on stuff is less of the issue (though not entirely not an issue) and the thing I realized was just that I don’t want to collect stuff so fast that I don’t build a deep and knowing relationship with said stuff. Like while I could afford getting a zillion eyeshadows at once (and good for me for not using my credit card or my savings or my bill Money!!!) it feels better to slowly build up stuff as if there is always time to get it. Because for me now there is. I’m in school and so while my income is debt technically it’s also steady and predictable unlike when I was working seasonal/temporary jobs or when I was an actual homeless starving artist 🙄. So right now I’m just chewing on that because I’m still in the midst of a budgeting project but next year I might have a version of a less stuff year. I think the big thing for me is because I’m in grad school and have not yet started my practicum my work is hard and sometimes boring and can feel disconnected from the actual career of my life so I need a reward every day for doing the hard grownup things. Especially *in these times* Finding rewards that aren’t buying a “sweetie” everyday is the big challenge I think! (And no meditating and exercise are not rewards those are chores! Valuable and sometimes delightful but still chores!)

It really is difficult to predict how much new things will spark joy over the course of your possession of them :/ I spent very recklessly at the beginning of the pandemic, and there have been a mix of wins and meh items. I do feel like an influx of items makes it difficult to really get to know each item (especially if they're the same kind of thing, like cheek products or shoes), which is a problem since I don't appreciate or utilize the stuff as much as I potentially could huhu. Impulse buying is the devil 😩

I would love it if you would consider writing a book about your experience (notice how I didn't say you "should")! Anyway, I started a no-buy year, wrote my rules . . . and didn't consider one thing. Did you allow yourself to buy empty eyeshadow palettes in order to depot and keep fewer ready made palettes . . . ? I didn't think of it before I started. Thank you for your help. You are truly inspiring. And I so appreciate your candor and honesty, especially about the struggles.

This video inspires thoughts for me about the comparison of things vs. experiences and the value they provide to ones life. Though I would argue the common wisdom is to spend on experiences rather than on buying stuff, I find it particularly interesting that your ranking suggests the opposite of this. Things that no longer exist, and therefore are more experiential (clothing subscription, bath products) rank lower and have less lasting value to you than do items you still possess. This is no criticism to you, just an interesting observation I had and would love to get your or others input/thoughts on! Do you find the “experience over things” mentality to be true universally, or is that a more individualized preference than we are led to believe?

Chart and graph...That's been part of your learning as you walk through growth of learning about your relationship with things. We can't always do that and can't always predict. I love that you love the leather jacket and the Micky Mouse sweatshirt. When you were talking about not seeing your family for a long time I became sad because nothing could stop me from seeing my family. Too much time can pass, and believe me, it passes fast and you are going home to a funeral of one of them. Don't do that! PROMISE THAT YOU WILL GO HOME AND SEE YOUR FAMILY BEFORE YOU MAKE YOUR MOVE TO WHERE EVER YOU ARE GOING!!!!! When you are young it's hard to think of your parents aging and and God forbid, they get sick. My mom wanted me to be happy where I was but her dream was for me to move home to be close to her. I am home but she is not here to enjoy me. But I believe she is happy that I am finally home in NC. Don't lose those NC ways. They are deep and no matter where you go, you carry them with you. But please don't let too much time pass before you see them again.
