Couple of things to correct & clarify: - The Space Wolves, despite being drunk, savage, dude bro Vikings are also some of the ''nice guys''. They will answer any call for help and even started a war with the Inquisition, who wanted to purge the regular soldiers & civilians of the planet Armageddon, after a Chaos Demon invasion, because they wanted to be sure these people were not corrupted by Chaos. The chapter master of the Space Wolves literally kicked the shit out of the Inquisitor who ordered the purge. - The Imperial Fists are not just ''stereotypical Marines'' but also great engineers/architects/builders, because their Primarch, Rogal Dorn was a genius engineer/architect. When they conquer a planet, they first build a proper fortress ( hence the ''we fortify this position''-meme) and then they go out and start building infrastructure, like roads, bridges etc. They're also pretty ''nice'' having given shelter to a bunch of refugees from the destroyed planet Cadia, on their giant space station the ''Phalanx'', which is their HQ. ( The Phalanx is a gigantic space cathedral, with the firepower of a Death Star and it's own eco system.) - The Night Lords are f*cking scumbags, psycho, sadistic mass murderers. ''But their armor looks so cool...." F*ck them, they flay people alive just for sh*ts and giggles. - The Blood Angels, despite the whole ''we vant to zuck your blood'' & ''anger management''- issue, are also pretty ''nice''. They actually try very hard to overcome their gene flaws and will sacrifice themselves without hesitation, if they have to. - The Iron Hands' whole mindset, is the result of them being betrayed by their fellow Space Marines of the Emperor's Children ( the purple perverts) when the Horus Heresy ( the big civil war ) started. Their Primarch, Ferrus Manus, was very close with Primarch Fulgrim of the Emperor's Children and both Legions had fought together in various campaigns. Then Fulgrim and his guys turned to Chaos, betrayed the Iron Hands, ambushing them and Fulgrim even killed Ferrus, cutting off his head. ( hence the joke) 2/3's of the Iron Hands were killed during this and the surviving ones became so traumatised that they came to the conclusion: ''the flesh is weak'' and '' you can't count and trust nobody then yourself''. So they became more and more cold, calculating, misanthropic cyborgs.

I think the reason Bricky (and many others) love the Night lords is cause of their books, which are very well written and fun for the most part. They also introduce us to many of the characters from the night lords, a number of whom have this twisted sense of justice that, at least in the setting of 40k, almost makes them look heroic. One of the most loved characters from the night lords is Sevetar. During the horus heresy he gets captured by loyalist forces and put into prison. There he psychically connects with a psyker girl that was also imprisoned near his cell. The girl was part of the the astropathic choir of the ship (psykers sing to do magic stuff and help the ship). The master of the choir was an abusive jerk and at one point beat her up so badly that her spine broke. Sevetar, once he found out what had happened, waited patiently until it was time for him to be transferred out of the prison. He escaped during the transfer, found the master of the choir, and then proceeded to give him the old night lords special, very very slowly and methodically. And after killing him, he just goes back to his cell and waits for his captors.

Ferrus Manus not having a good head on his shoulders is because Fulgrim cut his head off. And if you genuinely want the 'nice' legions. The Salamanders are the most notable example of "good" Space marines, as they don't have the superiority complex that other chapters develop towards regular humans, and even prioritize rescuing civillains. The Lamenters are just as humble and kind as the Salamanders, but unfortunately for them they are also canonically the unluckiest Chapter in the whole Imperium- They had no idea the Horus heresy started and by the time they realized their brothers were spreading demons, had been branded as traitors

Some parts of the Imperium aren't even sure if xenos or Space Marines are even real, going so far as to wonder if the story of the Emperor is true or an exaggeration (like how we view Robin Hood or Odysseus). Basically before the heresy Ferrus and Fulgrim were bros who were quite close due to them both seeking perfection (though through different means, Ferrus through machines and Fulgrim through his wierd stuff). After the heresy, Fulgrim went traitor and Ferrus stayed loyal, and when Fulgrim went to try and convince Ferrus, Ferrus refused to betray the Emperor, so Fulgrim cut off his head in a duel. After that Fulgrim would have one of his medical dudes Fabius Bile continually clone Ferrus so Fulgrim could continue to try and convince him, though he continously fails at it.

"Who is nice in this world?" Actually, ironically enough, the Blood Angels. They're all about Honor and Nobility, Culture and Beauty, Loyalty and the uplifting of Humanity. All of which makes their slow, inevitable decline into madness and rage even more tragic. There's also the Salamanders that Bricky talks about later in the video. The Ultramarines aren't bad either, a bit high-handed with the common folk but mostly benevolent about it (they have sort of a "look, we just know better than you, so sit down and shut up while we make your lives better" kind of attitude). The Thousand Sons were also pretty decent dudes before they turned traitor, just a bunch of nerds who wanted to educate and enlighten everyone. Then there's all the Successor Chapters formed when the legions were broken up into smaller formations. A number of those Chapters - like the Black Dragons, Angels of Absolution, and White Consuls - are pretty nice guys. Though of course, Warhammer being Warhammer, those "good guy" chapters tend to get screwed over by the universe pretty hard. The Black Dragons are cursed with a mutation that might see them purged by the Inquisition for being "impure." The Angels of Absolution were betrayed by their fellow Space Marines of the Dark Angels Chapter, who cut a backroom deal with the Tau to murder the "Absolvers" over a difference of ideology. And the White Consuls died nearly to the last man defending Cadia and another system from the forces of Chaos, then had their homeworld of Sabatine conquered by Chaos while they were away, turning it from a happy, idyllic world into a daemon-infested cesspit. Because when the universe itself is actively malicious, nobody can have nice things.

For all the grandiosity and ridiculousness of the premise, there is also a blunt, unapologetic cruelty in it - and many people like it that way. The Night Lords are only the most obvious, edge-lordy expression of that. It's the match in the orphanage, the baseball bat to the pony's head, the chainsaw in fairy-land. It's the "no, let's not be friends, instead, let's wear your face as a hat and show it to your family" - adolescent-kind of defiance. It can be very liberating, if one has enough of all that bubbling, cloy happiness ... but it should be consumed in moderation.

You hit the nail on the head when saying "who is nice." The setting isn't the brightest and cheerful, basically being the dark souls of miniature wargaming before dark souls was ever a game. The game coined the term "grimdark" due to its tagline "In the grim darkness of the future, there is only war." Ironically, there are niceties in the setting. We just never see it. The game and setting focuses on everything else, and most people tend to ignore the fact that there are some worlds where things we consider normal and nice exist. The Imperium protects these worlds, and in so doing, make of themselves monsters as foul as any they face.

I would highly recommend the trilogy by Aaron Dembski-Bowden as it really depicts the Nightlords with a huge amount of nuance and complexity that one minute has you sympathizing with them for their nature as manufactured war machines and the next minute realizing they still have had a choice to become what they are now. They're basically if Batman, a super principled hero, ended up losing his mind and caving into cruel justice... And slipping a little more every day. They're also massive under dogs as far as chaos legions/warbands go, struggling for scraps because they basically live under self destructive idealism and principles.

"Who is nice in this world Bricky?" Answer: The Salamanders. They're the kind that will hug your child while burning an enemy to death so that the citizens are safe.

Someone may have brought this up already, but fun fact: Ferrus Manus is literally Latin for Iron Man 😛

The Salamanders and The Lamenters (A Blood Angel successor chapter) are the nice guys. A tip, you can use the comma and period keys ( , . ) keys to go backwards and forward frames on KZbin. The K key (as well as the space bar) can be used to play videos too.

One of the Iron Hands Captain (I think his name was Kristos, and guess what - he became corrupted by Chaos) even had no head - it was replaced by metal cylinder with cameras. And he also could rotate any part of his body in 360 degrees.

I know this comment is very late, but to explain Bricky's love of the Night Lords, as a huge Night Lord fan myself: The Night Lords are indeed scum, but they also have a weird sense of honour. For example, the reason they did horrible torture as a way of warfare, was to avoid giant conflicts. In the end, the torture of ten thousand people, would spare the lives of billions. They also dont worship the chaos gods, and look down upon thoose who do, and tend to treat their mortal servants/slaves, with some level of respect. Since you enjoyed the Ciaphas Cain book which is not your typical Warhammer 40k style story, the Night Lords trilogy is a good read, because it follows a group of underdog Night Lords, being scum yet likeable....Though by the end, you'll be reminded that they are in fact still monsters.

ferrus manus was decapitated hence the "not a great head on his shoulders" joke... but hey at least Ferrus manus came back as the badass headless primarch of "the legion of the damned"(a legion of daemons created by the god emperor)

Slight correction, ALL space marines can eat their enemies and gain knowledge, memories, etc from eating their flesh not just the SW.

The Warhammer 40k equivalent of Christmas is Sanguinala. It celebrates the noble sacrifice of Sanguineous (Primark of the Blood Angles). A mixture of sadness for the loss of a selfless man in a selfless act with a sense of (possibly misplaced) joy that life still goes on. So happy Sanguinala to all and to and to all a good fight. Also that it could always be worse!

Night Lords=an army of Batman without the restraint or morals and the gleeful addiction to sowing chaos of the Joker. One other thing to think about. They’ve got a certain level of precognitive ability, but it breaks their sanity more. And one of the gifts (read that sarcastically) that the Night Lords geneseed gives is basically having the eye of terror in their mind always. So they’re even more broken than they were as humans because they’ve got a vision of hell in their mind 24/7 and their precognitive gift causes further mental decline any time it’s used.

If you aren't fed up with 40k content, give the Ogryn Story by Warrior tier a watch! It's (as far as I know) not canonical but it gives great insight on one of the often time most overlooked part of the Imperiums forces, the Ogryn. It's pretty wholesome(and sad...).

There are plenty of youtubers that can help you learn how to stream and get started gaming. My favorite of them are actually two VTubers named Syafire and PumpkinPotion, both of whom focus on helping people get better at streaming, VTubing, and building community.
