On July 17, 2020, Gruppo Sportivo's Hans Vandenburg released the posthumous album 'Posthumourly' during his lifetime. When asked why he released the album - which for a long time had the working title 'Over My Like' - during his lifetime and not after, his answer is: “Because I like to be there”.
On 'Posthumourly', Hans Vandenburg sings about lost love ('I Don't Know'), tribute bands ('Jimi's Dead') and growing older ('When You Grow Old').
'Posthumourly' is released digitally and on vinyl, including a fanzine with contributions from artists Typex, Hans van Bentum and Peter Klashorst, among others. The single 'Mr. Smile' is inserted on a yellow transparent flexi disc. “You know, such a thin sheet of vinyl,” says Hans Vandenburg. Bert Dijkstra, designer of the artwork of 'Posthumourly': “Who else makes such a fun package to enjoy great music? Only Hans Vandenburg!”.
In addition to nine new songs, the album also contains special versions of the Gruppo Sportivo songs 'Told You So' and 'Find The Summer'. “I am also very proud of these original solo versions, and I want people to hear them, so that's why I chose to release them on this album ”, says Vandenburg. It also features an acoustic re-make of the solo song 'This Day Is Fine' from 1994. The instrumental 'Why I Quit Composing' bears the same title as Vandenburg's radio program on 40UP Radio, in which he plays songs so great that he “can hardly suppress the thought of just having to stop composing for once”.
Hans Vandenburg is the songwriter and driving force behind Gruppo Sportivo, The Buddy Odor Stop and Dierenpark. 'Posthumourly' is his fifth solo album after 'Buddy Odor Is A Gas!' (1979), 'Commercial Break' (1994), 'Shake Hands With Vandenburg' (1996) and 'Dig It Yourself' (2015). In the meantime, the albums 'Uit Het Leven Gegraven' (1998) and 'Sliptong' (2002) by his Dutch-language group Dierenpark were also released ("both albums are now finally on Spotify").
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Gruppo Sportivo achieved great success with the albums 'Ten Mistakes' and 'Back To '78'. 'Hey Girl', 'Beep Beep Love', 'Tokyo', 'Rock 'n Roll' and 'Disco Really Made It' became big hits. In the following years, the band toured throughout Europe and had success with albums such as 'Copy Copy', 'Pop! Goes The Brain' and 'Design Moderne'. In 2018-2019, after years of being a 'studio-only band', the band played sold-out clubs and festivals during a tour in support of the very positively received album 'Great' ('Gruppo's best since 'Back To '78', according to OOR Magazine). It was followed by the singles 'What Else Can I Do', 'Rock City' and 'Strange Brew'. In 2022 and 2023 the band toured Holland and Belgium with their succesful 'Spotify Tour', in which they played their most streamed songs in reverse order. In short, Hans Vandenburg is busier than ever.
