About coins in puddings. there is quite similar tradition in the southern part of Russia. My gramma cooked us manti for Christmas. Which Is basically oversized steam cooked dumpling. And she would make couple with coins, some had sugar and some had salt. If you get one with money it means you might get rich coming year, sugar was standing for happiness and if you pick one with salt you go to gulag

The oil is as integral to Hannukah as Santa is to Christmas. It's a fiction, added later to the story to aid the celebration. There is no mention of lighting 8 days of candles originally, and there are lots of potential explanations, including the amount of time it took to get news to the rest of the world when the first Hannukah (likely belated Sukkot, due to there being a war during normal Sukkot time) occured. Not that it matters much. It's still more realistic than anything else in Judaism.

I'm reading the comments as they come in while watching the podcast. Wow Jim! There's some loopy muthafuggers sprouting some crazy shit here! The first dozen commenters couldn't have even finished watching since it hasn't been uploaded long enough yet! Anyways love the podcast - Jim's so quick witted, Forrest and Jim bounce off eacu other so well and Kelly keeps it all tied together so well. It's also awesome how the production crew, Jack and the mexican dude Manuel / Rodrigo whatever add a nice amount of variety and spice (Probably Chilli and salsa). Keep uo the great work!
