I used my Hanwag Tatra II Wide boots for my first real trekk two weeks ago, a week in the Atlas mountains in Morocco. The valleys surrounding Imlil was fantastic, but we did summit Jbel Toubkal as well (tallest peak in North Africa and the Arabian World, 4167m). After a week trekking in sunny weather and around 20-25 degree celsius, around 8-11 hours per day in sometimes really rough and steep terrain, my feet was in the same condition as before the trek. I love my Hanwags, they are worth every penny. (I remember seeing your wifes feet in one of your Fjällräven Classic videos, try 2 layers of thin wool socks, that might help and you won't need to tape your feet.) Keep up the good work!

Hey Ted, Derek here again. Hanwag just decided this year to stop selling online in Canada ( I was just approved for the Pro Program in December 2020, but I did not order right away and now it is no longer valid) so after some research I decided to go with Italian made Crispi boots sold through a distributor in the USA. I bought the Nevada Legend GTX (wide EE) and the Wild Rock Plus GTX (wide EE). We have had a cold spring so far but it is warming up to 20 C this week. Cheers, Derek

Thank you so much, this video is exactly for me. I have the Tatra II boots, they are great, but I can feel them pushing on my little toe a bit. I can feel it after maybe 20 km of walking or more, when the foot stretches a bit, so it was not noticeable during testing in store. If the Ancash boots are wider in the toe, I should at least try them on.

Definitely try them, I can also recommend Hanwag banks SF EXTRA, they are even wider, not as tall as the ancash but really comfortable.

I saw all kinds of Hanwag boots at the Fjallraven store, some looked amazing. They said that they could get the special forces boot. Anyway I still stayed away from them currently. With my Mammut Trovat hiking boots my toes froze when I sat outside for an extended period of time but they are okay in the cold if i am continuously walking. They are the feet size, so I can not wear thick socks. The Solomon tundra Winter boots are warmer but than those are not for hiking.

Hello Ted, thanks for the cool video as always! Do you have any experiences with the non-goretex (full leather inner LL) Hanwag versions in Scandinavia? I have the Tatra goretex version and am always wondering if I should go with the full leather version of the Ancash or Tatra in the future. I'd like to know if the Hanwag wax or snoseal would keep the leather version waterproof/repellent enough or should I keep going goretex? I really like the idea of better breatheability and softer comfort. Somehow I don't trust goretex or any membrane in the long run.

Just bought the Keb trousers with your recommendation and now it's time to upgrade the shoes! I think you have recommended Ancash a bit more to other people here. How would you compare the sole cushioning, stiffness and roll of them? I have a mildly herniates disc in my lower back and would love to have boots that have sufficient cushioning to ease the impact. Would you also recommend both for also casual hiking on the trail or would other be better on that? Thank you in advance and keep on the great work you do! Greetings from the neighbour Finland 😃

I bought the Ancash as I found the tatra unstable with the forefoot being narrow, had a few falls with a heavy pack when my foot rolled on a stone. The Ancash is a beautifully made very robust boot, with a very stable planted feel......unfortunately in my opinion its too high for steep hill walking. I had to loosen the tops!! They also feel too roomy, I have to wear thick woolen socks or 2 pair. They would be great for hunting, but hill walking They just feel too big and cumbersome on me.

Great video and very useful since this is probably the only video available on KZbin on the Ankash model. How do they resist abrasion? Thank you.

Thanks brother! The performance is great on all sorts of hiking and multi day adventures, they offer great stability, of course they will weigh more than a pair of sneakers but in return you get stability, water resistance and awesome grip! Hey Ted, Derek here. I have a wide forefoot, especially my left foot where my small toe gets crushed, I even tried Keen Targhee ll which had a reputation of having a voluminous foot box but it was still way too tight. I am looking at the Alaska Wide GTX last or the Ancash ll GTX with the (SFE) Straight Fit Extra last. Have you compared the difference between the two type of lasts? Do you have any advice, I do not have a Hanwag retailer here with my size to try so I will be buying online and I want to make sure I get it right.
@TedWeirum3 жыл бұрын
hey! I haven't been able to compare the two different lasts, I don't know if we could maybe measure your foot in the widest part and then I'll measure mine and then hopefully we'll be able to tell if it's a fit for you. I have my ancash in size 44 and they work great for me. :)
@momtocassia3 жыл бұрын
@@TedWeirum Hey Ted, at the widest part I am at 3.5 inches or 9 cm I usually wear a US 9, I believe that is a 42. I just got a response from a Hanwag representative and he suggested the SFE. Are the Ancash ll good as a work boot and for day hikes, or is that overkill? I work in a BC Provincial park in Canada and I rake a lot of gravel sites, walk a lot of ground. We work all Spring to Fall as park managers so we don't get out backpacking like we used to. Derek

Hmm I didn't know Scandinavians had wider feet than others on average. However it might explain why I've sadly come to the conclusion that my Hanwag Lhasa *Wide* are actually *too narrow* for my feet when they start to swell during hikes T_T Seems like my dream of getting a pair of Hanwag GTX boots aren't going to be a realisation until they start making true wide ones. It ain't easy having feet like a hobbit!
@TedWeirum5 жыл бұрын
Do you size up as well or do you go for your “normal” size? I’d try go a couple of sizes up to make sure that you can fit two pairs of socks, one liner and a thicker more cushioning one. Then like you say, your feet will swell during a long hike so make sure to have room for that as well! Hope that helps a bit, go to a naturkompaniet store and try them out there, they’ll show you all the tricks! :)
@metouw5 жыл бұрын
@@TedWeirum Yeah thanks for the tips. I did the rookie mistake and actually got a pair that fits me perfectly before the hike (maybe a little narrow). But when I try the boot in a bigger size in the store it's the same narrow fit on my little toe (which is the place I always get my blisters). I've tried double socks as you mention, kinesio tape and even some silicone "pipes" for your toes (but they fall off quite fast during hikes). When I role with a tape and double sock combo I can prevent most blisters... but not that god damn little toe. And kinesio tape is a bad mix with water... so no feet in the lake after a long day which sucks...Next step is to either try moleskin tape or w/e it's called (waterproof tape) and visit a shoemaker to see if he can do some magic or get a new pair of boots I guess.
