Brian May said in the commentary for this song that he felt the lyrics were the closest to Freddie's true feelings/life than any other song Freddie wrote. You should watch the official video; very interesting.

That's the video that everybody hated but Freddie wanted! It's definitely not the best Queen video I've ever seen
Freddie often said music was not the most important thing in his life, but that Love was the most important thing in his life. It came through in his music so beautifully. Freddie was always searching for true love. Personally, I believe that leaving his home and going to another country at the age of 7 in order to attend Boarding school, left him longing for stability and true love. I don't think sensitive 7 year olds, like Freddie, understand being banished from home, love and family. I believe it affected him for the rest of his life, and it is one of the reasons he could connect with his audience so deeply!

The opening to It’s a Hard Life is taken from an aria from the opera Pagliacci. Freddie loved opera! Great reaction, thank you! I think it’s official, you are truly a Queen Fan!👑
@gabrielcaprav4 жыл бұрын
You're quite right! He borrows a little from the melody in the aria 'Vesti la giubba'. Quite fitting, since it's a song about a heartbroken clown.
Watched this reaction again today. I love this song and you are correct, I’ve never seen an overhead shot of Freddie playing the piano. What a treat! Everyone always commented in documentaries about the way he played. He had his hands flat down in lieu of angled up like they teach in lessons. Brian and Roger always said it was strangest thing to watch, but he could bang out beautiful music on that piano. They loved the backing tracks when he was on piano. It was the same concert as the Love of My Life reaction. There were nearly 460,000 people there. A record breaker at the time. If Love of My Life got to you at this concert- watch it Live at Wembley 7/12 1986. They did love their fans and that particular performance was awe inspiring. The video for Its a Hard Life is good and you will easily hear all the lyrics. He starts the song in the same way as he did at this concert. Thanks for your reactions. I enjoy them very much.

I love your reaction. This is in my top 5 of all Queen songs. Freddie had just been through a breakup when he wrote this, which can always bring out alot of feelings, he just happens to put his to music and come out with a wonderful song like this one. It always brings me to tears. And this is the same show that your reacted to Love Of My Life.
Another song I love very much . Thank you Hap for reacting to it 😊 Roger and Brian hated the video made for this song. This song is kind of sad. Freddie searched for love most of his life .. and when he found it, soon later he was told he was ill... " Both Brian May and Roger Taylor groaned out loud when shown this video during their commentary for the Greatest Video Hits 2 collection. Taylor said it was "the most stupid music video ever made." May pointed out more positively that the video was an ironic take, as it portrayed Mercury as a wealthy man singing about how hard life and love are, and at that point Mercury in real life possessed great wealth but was still searching for love. When reflecting on the video in 2011 during an interview for the documentary Queen: Days Of Our Lives, Taylor admitted that he had previously admired director Tim Pope but felt "he was taking the mickey out of us." " Take care .

Good reaction Hap. Yeah, I read somewhere that Roger and John weren't so happy to wear their costumes but when you see Freddie's I think they exaggerated a little. Little story : The video was made after Freddie broke his leg at Hanover concert. In the end of the video he showed a little problem with it. Jus a little.
@lcbcreative4 жыл бұрын
I loved the video even more after listening to their grumbling. I'm sure they could have refused to go along with it, but they didn't. Friction produces great art - or ridiculousness, it's always a risk - but they let Freddie have his way. It's part of what made them such a phenomenal band. They weren't four identical personalities and artists. There were many over the top videos on MTV back then. At least with Queen you were guaranteed great music and vocals.
Lol Roger’s comment. Brian is always the diplomat, which contrasts his sometimes opposite manner in the studio. It’s been stated that most arguments were between Brian & Roger.

This song, imo, really captures Freddie's emotions, let downs in life and love, and also the joy that seemed to only temporarily accompany it for him. I wish, and truly hope he knows how truly loved he is now in our memories. Thank you for another well thought out and awesome reaction. Im enjoying this journey as much as you seem to be. Lizzie

It's a gorgeous song, right? One of the things I love about Freddie is his ability to express every feeling that a song is supposed to express. With him, every song is always an emotional journey. Am I making sense? The only example I can think of right now is a song called Too much love will kill you. Brian wrote it, it's about his divorce and when he sings it, the feeling I get is "look at my pain". When Freddie sings it, I feel every emotion within the song, I share his pain, his shame, his anger etc. About the meaning of the song, his love life was quite a mess by then. Some people also think it's the natural sequel to a previous song, Play the game. I loved your comment and I also think that your moustache would make Freddie proud 😉

Fricking hell Fella, that was brilliant. It's the 1st time I've seen/heard this version. I think I recommended the studio version due to the costumes & theatrics which is worth a watch..............I believe a lot of his love songs are related to Mary Austin, the love of his life................I could easily be wrong though.

You should see the official video. Brian laughed and said it was Freddie’s idea to dress like a old fashion costume ball and Freddie’s outfit made him look like a prawn fresh out of the sea!! Freddie wrote several heartbreaking type songs that were very emotional. He mentioned in an interview with David Wigg, I believe, that he had several scars from being hurt and it reflected in his songwriting. Yes, this was the same concert where you saw Love of My Life. Queen broke a world record at that concert with 430,000 people attending!! I’m telling you Love of My Life live at Wembley is even better. I look forward to your reactions. I've been a Queen fan for over 35 years and saw Queen many many times live, at Live Aid 1985, at Wembley 1986 (x 2) and Knebworth Aug 1986 and have to say that I really appreciate your reactions, it's so heart rendering that you actually take the time to listen to the lyrics as they all have meanings in terms of each and every band member. "It's a Hard Life" was written by Freddie after his relationship with Winnie Kirchberger was coming to an end in or around Feb/March 1985. He met Winnie in Munich (where Queen did an awful lot of recording at "Musicland Studios", coincidentally where his friendship with the amazing Reinhold Mack a music producer stemmed from - Freddie was godfather to one of his sons) and really fell in love, however due to the language barrier (Freddie's German wasn't that clever - hence the reason he always took along his other good friend Barbara Valentina (who also stars in the official video of "It's a Hard Life" - she is the blonde lady that steps on Freddie's toes near the end) to interpret for him) and the fact that Freddie was always touring that it put a strain on their relationship as Winnie wasn't prepared to leave Munich or his restaurant business and accompany Freddie when touring. It was also at a time when Freddie had fallen for someone else and was torn between the two and had to make the difficult and painful choice, hence the line "when your love cuts you down to size". He's my hero, always has been and always will be. Sorry to waffle on but I just love your reactions and how you concentrate on the lyrics and draw very very very good conclusions, hence the reason why to explain the meaning behind the song, when you quite rightly indicate it WAS about love. Keep up the good work. Much love and stay safe from Manchester UK xxxx

HAP, your intense appreciation of this song on so many different levels is terrific because yr critiques are on the many facets of his songs... from the vocal sounds he makes other than the lyrics, then the effect the actual lyrics have on you, then his piano playing, then the guitar & base effects on you... well, it tells us so much about you & your sincere love of your recent exposure to Queen & why after all these yrs people are playing their music everyday, around the globe. Their unique sound, their perfect performances, their wonderful unforgettable lyrics seem to surprise you each time u do another reaction. Thank you for showing how sincere u are in enjoying every new song of theirs... we Queen devotees love that you are bringing Queen to new generations with yr obvious enjoyment of them. All we longtime Queen lovers want is to perpetuate their music into the world at large & hence keep Freddie among us with his genious songwriting, his joyful performances & his perfect voice. Additionally, u have the greatest, most infectious laugh I've ever heard & I always am in a better mood after hearing you laugh! I hope u never stop doing yr channel, you are a delight to listen to, and Freddie would have adored you for your friendly & articulate comments, you are his kind of a friend for sure! Sailor Suzie

3 Days ago I saw the Thumbnail to the Music Video to It's A Hard Life and I never heard the song before, I wanted to wait until you do a reaction to it and here it is :D. So this is my first time hearing and seeing it (I only knew the Intro and nothing more) So what I noticed is the piano notes resemble and remind me of Borhap, Save me and Play the Game. 8:29 I Love how he always turns some parts into Speeches, His way to show that he means it is, he does those Hand gestures while more of ''talking'' instead of Singing. Great Connection he tries to give his Fans. I Love when people do that, it shoes to me that they really care about their fans. 9:26 Yeah same, I always wanted to see how he Played Piano and stuff, Very interesting View. And wow Brian's Guitar solo sounded Godlike. What an ending of a Song wow 😂👌 nice. Great Reaction. I really Love this Song.

This is such a beautiful song. One of Freddie's best , I think. The official video is one Brian and Roger cringe at. Freddie was the only one that was having fun, the others couldn't wait for it to be over. Roger thought the director was making fun of them. It was really awkward to watch. Freddie has an injured knee and sits down carefully at the end. You should react to John's lovely song to his new wife, You're My Best Friend. The official video is the best version. This was the second single after Bohemian Rhapsody from A Night At the Opera. It was hugely popular in the U.S.

Awesome reaction! This is another one of those songs that not many people react to for some reason. But it is a great song. Freddie starts off in head voice. The beginning melody of the song was based on the Vesti la giubba aria. That might be why it sounded operatic. This is a really great song, it was a medium sized hit, but it does get a bit lost in Queen's massive catalog. The music video for this song and Living On My Own does have a similar concept. It is someone that is surrounded by people in the middle of a party but he is still alone. A song that is similar to this one is Play The Game. There is a great live version at the Bowl kzbin.info/www/bejne/goLUeY2YZseSldk.

By the way, this is the same concert in Rio (first night Rock in Rio concert - by the second night Freddie's voice was pretty shot) where you reacted to "Love of My Life". By the time he sang "Love of My Life" he had stripped off his top (the deeper into any concert the fewer clothes Freddie wore). During LoML the camera shots were mostly above the waist in order to see his facial reactions as the crowd sang his song. Here's the set list from that concert. www.setlist.fm/setlist/queen/1985/cidade-do-rock-rio-de-janeiro-brazil-63d596a3.html For both concerts Queen didn't come on until around 2 a.m.

Buf after I broke up with my first legit girlfriend years ago I can remember clearly listen to this song a few weeks after and I got it for the first time and understand what was Freddie tried to say with that song. The operatic opening is inspired by Luciano Pavarotti. kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3m9kImfnteWd80 Yes this was the same performance like your Love of my Life reaction. In the 80s they released a VHS called Rock in Rio from that performance. The video clip of this song is also a special one in the history of queen video clips and worth to watch.

Great reaction for a great song, as always, thank you. I love your channel. And now, let me make a special request ( 2 in 1 reaction) for an even more special song - Too much love will kill you - There are twoo great versions, one sang by Freddie (1989) (Queen ,Too Much Love Will Kill You official video) - and one by Brian (1992). Brian wrote it in 1988 when he was going through a lot emotionally; he met his actual wife... But, he was still married to the mother of his 3 children... Brian owns this song on an emotional level more than Freddie, I think. You can see in Brian's teary eyes the pain and the sadness he is going through. You can literally feel his hurt. It's a absolutely heartbreaking song. It's lovely to see two different characters singing the same song! I would like to hear your opinion. Check this video version - Brian May -Too much love will kill you. (with lyrics ) '' Look forward to your reaction (and sorry for my english)
