There are about 3,000 joint lock techniques in modern hapkido. They are still evolving. Gun(pistol) was intoroduced in Korea about 100 - 150 years ago. I could tell the origin of gun disarm techniques is from Hapkido's basic bare hand techniques and weapon techniques.

I have little different take on his gun disarmament process. I agree it can be done to save your life but to me its NOT focus enough on the gun barrel distraction. Limiting the damage the bullet can do is first then taking gun out of the game and then person. Move in way that little damage of bullet is first than NONE and then gun and person. Breaking balances is KEY to all Hapkido techniques and breaking the gun barrel balance point. SKMA techniques are great and he is really good. I am glade to see such a great instruction young instructor of Hapkido an ART that is dear to me for over 40 years. For me the gun point is just little off. That is point of view. He is good.

Nice. I practice Aikido in Windsor and the moves are quite similar, only the striking is much more subdued than you guys do. Mostly pins, wrist locks, and throws. Very nice demo!

haha...this video was filmed when we went to Poland first time in 2010. There was no TKD kicking pad, so we just showed a few kicks with pads avaiable that time. Thank you for your comments.

Daeman Sung ☆ Hapkido, control and restraint techniques ate taught at Executive Security International in Aspen Colorado. To those reading this comment, who have no experience with the art, it is very effective for security professionals, who ,as part of our job, are forced to deal with violent people.

the grab techniques are just a small part of hapkido, hapkido is about 4500 techniques ( reference the 2 hapkido bibles together ). all the techniques you see in MMA,judo and thaiboxing is also in hapkido, plus alot of crazy advance head locks and fotlocks. But there is only a few hapkido teachers who have modernized the training. Instead of working 1 hour with wristlocks every training, why not focus on the submission and stand up techniques.

Do i need to do a video on how to hold people at knife and gunpoint so they cant try any little tricks? In almost every class i have ever been in , the weapon disarms are like "choke escapes" they rely on mon-attacks in the first place.

I know that's quite an old comment, but it was literally the only thing I could find involving hapkido in Macedonia on the internet. I'm from Macedonia too! Could you please PM me ways to contact somebody or the place I should look for the hapkido class? Please. I am very enthusiastic about taking up this martial art and would be extremely thankful if you could help me somehow /sorry for not writing in Macedonian
@KadirTalabani

yes, but because of the huge amount of techniques in hapkido, one have to focus the training into a specefic direction. There is 12 different kne and 7 different albu strikes in hapkido, from all the hundret videos on youtube, show me one decent video which demostrate those techniques. I'm pretty sure you won't find it, instead you will find hundrets of wristlock demo clips. not to mention the 25 different kicks you allready learn at green belt. why use taekwondo pads and not thai-pads.

Hapkido is and have been a combat style.and in the same time helping people getting stronger. and the answer to that is not hundred of hours of wristlock training. that will only destroy the joints and hurts. for what? so you can deliever a joinlock if some drunk guy grab your hand in the street? that is wasted time. Hapkido fighters should rather work with the basic like MMA so they could get stronger and add some wristlock training. it all depeneds on which direction you focus on.

Thank you for your kind comment. To be honest, these techniques are already opened to public via many social media. To use them in real situation, we need to practice many times and with many different people.

GREAT fluence. But in genral hapkido need to modernice. It means get a solid guard to protect the face. Start sparing full contact with protection and blackbelts without legskins. Now in days everybody know mma,boxing or thaiboxing. You cant defend your self like you did for 50 years ago. I hope more hapkido practioners start to adopt guards and full contact sparring. then perhaps we will manage to prove the effectivity of hapkido and not just hide us behind some ''selfdefence''.
