The day two of Parliament regional sittings in Northern Uganda started with a note to address the missing link caused by the absence of the leader of Opposition in parliament.
Mityana South Member of Parliament Richard Lumu has thought it wise that the gap can only be addressed by making changes in the legal framework. MP Lumu has spearheaded a bill to introduce an amendment in the Administration of parliament Act to provide for the election of both the Leader of opposition and the Opposition Chief Whip by members of the respective parties in parliament rather than the current mode of appointment by the largest opposition party with a numerical strength in parliament.
According to MP Lumu, the move will enhance a democratic participation being that elections are a fundamental aspect of democracy.
Lumu further stresses that the current operations of the office of the leader of opposition ring-fences the ideas and the members of other opposition into a one party business which locks out popular participation.
but, the spirit of the bill is the question at play.
MP Kakembo Mbwatekamwa of Entebbe Municipality a member of the National Unity Platform Party WAS THE MAIN SECONDER of the proposed new legislation.
the Speaker of parliament Annet Anita Among has dismissed claims that the move carries personal vendetta as members are allowed to exhibit their rights.

Yesterday sekikubo was silenced by the speaker in the name of "the sitting is to discuss issues affecting northern uganda." Same speaker then today allows another mp to bring up such a motion. Is A A A becoming one of the plagues in our country? Any way when you see the head of legislature mandated to over see the executive kneeling before the person she is meant to keep on check, the you understand we are undergoing punishment may be from the most high and we as a country must repent.

This is the worst decision then man can ever make. This is as good at saying they no longer need many opposition parties. The fact is all political parties are infiltrated my NRM. Now the challenge posed by NUP for non compromise is biting even among the consenting political parties. Imagine if this proposal go through.. Uganda will no longer have opposition 😊

Good proposal mate. I also add that the speaker should not be member of Parliament. He just turns up and preside and guides the proceedings /deliberations. Basically the Speaker’s job should be applied for.
