Micro Camper Drop Floor Provides Standing Height...Fits in Garage!

So I actually own one of these. Bought it new (2022 model) in April 2023. I have traveled about 8845 miles and spent 65 nights in all kinds of weather over the 16 months. There is lots of good and some fairly bad stuff when you consider that this is a house on wheels. Pros: 1a) I love the space for 1. I converted the big queen bed (which is too big a waste of space for me) to a pretty big single so I can keep the big table up and usable as well as still have seating for 2 in the large dinette space. I still use the small front dinette for eating and storing groceries, etc. 1b) Reducing bed size allows that AC unit to work much much better. 2) Most of the components are great and haven't had issues. I unplugged the TV to reduce parasitic power draw. Next step is removal. 3) At 7' 3.5", I can fit it in my garage by dropping tire pressure and a little ingenuity. Not as hard as it sounds and keeps it clean. Easy to maneuver by hand. 4) My cabinets and drawers stay closed, during travel. That lowered tub is great to keep things from rolling around! 5) I really like standing to do dishes and cook 6) Love not messing with a black tank or cassettes ever. I carry a Cleanwaste fold-up for convenience. Cons: 1) My biggest hassle has been the water connections to the hot water heater. Braided vinyl hose with Pex fittings is not ideal (i.e., stupid). Had many leaks, tried lots of "fixes" and now have some permanent water damage to cabinetry. However, FINALLY found a RV guy with the right stuff and I installed PEX tubing and flare fittings. No More Leaks (for last 3K+ miles anyway) 2) Battery placement is atrocious under a dinette seat. Ridiculously hard to get at and battery is screwed in a box. I made a "door" in the plywood access so I didn't have to drag the full length out just to check on it. Same on other side with water heater and water pump for winterization. 3) Door fit with original lock was "off". I broke a key in it and decided to replace. The new lock fits perfectly and the door closes and locks without trauma. 4) Slam latch on storage pops open even when locked on a really bumpy road!. Overall, I am having lots of fun. This is light enough for my Honda Pilot to pull it anywhere I need to go without a horrendous mileage hit. Phyllis M.

HOA’s are a joke, such an invasion of our amendments, and rights. Whoever thought it was a good idea is a moron. Might have been fine in the old days, but nowadays power hungry Karens just use it to bully, harass, and threaten people. Good luck finding the actual good ones too. I’m fine with keeping your lawn free from junk, and trash, but going as far as deciding what color you are allowed to paint your house, not being able to fly our damn flag, decorations, hell not even being able to use your OWN damn driveway is insane. Not to mention how they are able to put leans on your house that YOU paid for.🤦‍♂️ Don’t get me started on the forced “fees” that don’t actually benefit the neighborhood too. Whenever I think of HOAs I just imagine an old hag peaking out of their closed blinds with binocs just waiting for someone to break their BS rules. They have nothing else better to do than ruin other people’s lives. Only way to get rid of them I think (besides for gov regulation which will never happen), is get on the board, get everyone on your side, and vote to disband it. I’ll never live in an HOA, rural/country areas FTW.

The LAST thing I'd want on my TT is an outside TV. Really. One INSIDE, yes (I use mine for a PC monitor, not a TV), but not outside. Doubt I'd even use the table outside, either. Or outside speakers (useless to me). I guess lots of people want/use them outside or else Little Guy wouldn't offer it, but I'd delete those "options" from mine. -- BR

@@billredding2000 There's a lot of stuff in the RV industry that are old ideas that were never really that great and are basically obsolete now, yet refuse to just die off. Integrated outdoor entertainment is one of them. These days, people who want that can buy something better than what they can get from RV suppliers. Meanwhile, things that are actually helpful, like indoor/outdoor tables are oddly rare, despite being easy to pull off.

@@InfernosReaper Never got the whole outdoor tv mount system, and external speakers. Unless you’re out in the boonies with no one around you it’s so disrespectful to others to be just blasting music (then again that hasn’t stop those annoying boaters who do that lol). Can’t tell you how annoying it is trying to relax when someone blasts their music that often times isn’t even stuff you like, drives me nuts when my neighbors do it at home (and it’s the SAME exact song every single damn time🙃). Same with the outdoor kitchens in certain camp trailers that already have a kitchen inside. Leads to a weird floor plan inside that could be utilizing that extra cubby space for storage. 9/10 I doubt anyone is using either that outdoor TV or kitchen. The one time maybe the tailgaters, but they often have baller diesel pusher motorhomes. Plus like you said portable speakers are gonna be a better choice than the usual two external speaker layout that most camp trailers come with. Between the more number of speakers, the better quality of them, and the IPX water/dust ratings.

Proud owner of a 2023 Little Guy Micro Max. Never had any issues with it (knock on wood). Except for leaking propane gas that was caused by a loose connection that we just had to tighten with a wrench. Everything else worked as advertised. Great quality little trailer that is perfect for my needs. I would buy it again! I am installing a lift kit for more clearance. Love, love, LOVE my Micro Max!🥰

Love hearing this! I bet that lift kit will get it right where it needs to be. I think in its current state it could do most typical paid campgrounds, but a little lift will get you out to all the open country.

I’m an owner and do agree. I see the same issues on mine. Also, the glue holding the door track for the rear dinette storage has already come loose. Having had a few RVs over the years, we sadly expect some of that. I’m still happy with my purchase though. It’s a good camper.

Another proud and happy 2023 Micro Max owner. When looking for a small camper, I had several requirements: 1) The GVWR couldn’t exceed 3500 lbs. 2) it had to sleep 3 adults without a tent. 3) Better build quality. The Micro Max hits every item. Here are my pros: 1) This little camper lives big and has great storage. Our adult son always travels with us and is 6’0. It’s a little short for him but not terribly. I would describe this camper as perfect for one, great for two and snug for 3 adults. It’s great for us for trips up to about a week long. 2) The build quality is excellent. I couldn’t be happier. 3) Tows well with our F150. I’m in the process of getting the trailer brake controller installed on my Outback Wilderness, which will be the primary tow vehicle. Having had mine for a year, I do have some dislikes. 1) The battery placement. Ugh! Especially if you’re like us and keep the rear dinette in the bed position. 2) If the temps are above 90 and you have it in the queen bed configuration, it takes hours to cool off in a hitch up and go trip after work on Friday. We’re going to see how plugging it in at home and running the ac for a couple of days works. 3) We’ve had trouble with the latch closure on the roadside front drawer under the small dinette not latching and staying closed. Honorable Mention: An outside TV bracket. Really????? All in all, super pleased and highly recommend the Micro Max. Edited to add: I thought seriously about ditching the microwave but surprisingly, I do use it more than I thought I would.

We have an Alto 1713 by Safari Condo out of Quebec, Canada. Very similar design except for a clamshell-style roof that gives it over 7 ft of head room inside. 1800lbs dry weight and not a stick of wood in the build. Developed and designed by an aircraft engineer. Amazing quality that meets or beats anything we've seen. Only unfortunate thing is that the wait list is presently over 2 years. We have NEVER regretted our investment in this great little trailer.

Make sure if you get one of those awnings that you check out how good it holds up in the heat. We had a trailer with an awning and didn’t know it needed treatment from the heat. Ee lived in ours full time. The thing ended up shredding. It’s the only thing we could figure out that caused it. And since we chose it over a roll out we were left without any. Since we were stationary we ended up getting a shelter built around it. It was a life saver in the heat!

So close to the shape we would want if we ever had to replace our current trailer. It's always interesting to walk around campgrounds to see trailers that are jacked up so very high- we have a vintage trailer that has around 10" of clearance after I added two inches to it. Never have had a clearance problem at all. And we travel a lot with this camper- just finished a 34 night trip, on which we crossed 200 nights in just under 3 years with our low camper. If I were to suggest a different trailer to copy next- it would be the Aristocrat- which ours is based on (it's a WheelCamper). 17' adds enough length to really increase space, but the low floor and low height makes it fit into a garage, too. I totally get people who think they want to go camping out in the middle of nowhere. But I finished working in an industry were people constantly bought things they never, ever used. Ever. There's plenty of space in the market for people who know that low and light isn't going to cause any problems- and actually solve some serious ones.

I didn't realize the Aristocrat could fit in a garage. In the pictures they always seem to look tall like our Shasta Compact. I'm with you on the height. I have been preaching that on this channel for years. People who watch our channel frequently know that we go everywhere. And we do it with very limited clearance most the time with no problems. Great suggestion. My guess is they kind of want to keep it simple to allow it to break away if it comes into contact with anything. This way it won't damage the rest of the trailer when it makes contact. But, a skid plate should still allow it to sheer off if needed.

I’m 5’2 and camp solo often in SE Texas, and occasionally with my husband who is 5’8”. If they made the microwave and TV and option, this would be a good fit for us. My main criteria is something that will fit in my garage with a kitchen. Having it inside would be nice for bad weather days or to escape mosquitoes at dawn (breakfast) and dusk (dinner). Does it come with an A/C and heater?

I was trying to stay with a liter one but I had to upgrade the car to be able to pull this luckily I was already in the market for a new vehicle so we ended up buying one of these even though the company is not around anymore😢 I have not yet took it out yet but my family is so ready. @@MrDJTROY11 Luckily for you, most of what they use comes from Lippert (large rv industry in Indiana) so you should be good there. Not a whole lot of proprietary items on this camper. I also have seen Little Guy come and go over the years. I could see them popping up again in the future under a different name.

The first impression is that i like it. For me: the tv and microwv come out. When i was looking at teardrops in 2010, LG did not have a good reputation. If that has turned around, then good for them. So, the Vistabule has a drop floor. Campinn has underbed bins. Maybe some others have low hanging things underneath. I never thought about it. I dont 'overland' with my campinn, but I've been off road in some back country and never had a space clearance issue. I also have a 4"lift kit that might balance that out. I think this is a good floor plan and would be comfortable in this trailer. You can make coffee inside and sit around in your jammies!

My hubbs and I (along with two dogs) love to boondock camp. He's 6'2" and needs SPACE! These tiny trailers that cram in a kitchen make no sense to me whatsoever. It's not enough space to really cook so all your prep needs to be done at the dining table or more typically outside. Also cooking is messy & smelly (and smoky!). We opted for a 7x16 enclosed utility trailer with a floating fixed king sized bed. We put in a basic 12v electric system with pot lights and bedside lights and a very basic water system using two 7 gallon jugs. We made a rudimentary urine diverting compost toilet and installed a 4' tall x 3' wide cubby system with cloth "drawers" for all of our stuff. We have one 250w solar panel and two 6v batteries. It's actually too much space! All cooking is done outside on a single propane burner that we set up on a folding table which stows under the bed. I bring the stove inside to make tea in the mornings. It's easy and therefore fun! I love the 'drop floor' idea. But I wish these manufacturers just once would ditch the kitchen, ditch the bathroom and just make more space for storage and just...space.

It would be just about perfect for people such as myself, my daughter, and my son-in-law who may be considered vertically challenged. Keeping cabinets closed is a solved problem in the marine world. Every door and drawer gets a "push-button" latch. Push to lock for when you're gonna be rockin' and rollin'. Push to unlock when you're stationary. The unlocked latch button is also a cabinet pull handle. Slick. Easy.

i like the fact that you do not have to tear down the eating area to make a bed. Two seperate is the set up I like. If it was just a drop bigger with at least a wet bath I wuoldlike it better IMHO

I like it especially for a solo person and im only 5'2 so having everything on my level is a plus i would not have to worry about reaching up to get stuff or having to climb up on something to reach that for me is a big plus and as i work remotely having the option to have a full time sleep area and dinette space where i could work from would be a plus as well as not having to buy a huge truck to pull this my suv would be able to pull it i think and itvwould not be huge to pull this is something i would like to have but yes take out microwave no need for it dont use one at home will keep this in mind as i am looking to start my gypsy time in my life kids are grown now time for me to roam

Drew you should check out the Helio 0 series trailers. I know you looked at their small teardrop in the past, but the 0 series are really solid options for people who need lightweight options. There was some change-over in ownership (supposedly someone already involved with Helio now owns it) which led to some heavy discounts for 22-23 models. I picked up an 04 this year and it's been the perfect trailer AND it's under 1500lbs loaded. Not affiliated with Helio at all, just a satisfied customer and would be happy to show you my trailer if you ever come through Alberta!

I don't think I understand. Your T@G XL fits your 6' height better than the 5'9" interior of this trailer. I assume this is almost a foot and a half taller than yours inside. Sorry I can be dense sometimes. Or are you saying it is not worth upgrading from a T@G unless you get an actual standing height trailer?

@@PlayingwithSticks I am saying the “upgrade” doesn’t seem worth it without the standing height. (I’ve stepped into other “stand up” trailers designed for only 5’9” or so and thought, why?) Frankly, the bed situation in the T@G also is better for us because we don’t have to crawl over each other to get up for the bathroom in the middle of the night. And it would take a special trailer to get us to give up the outdoor kitchen. But thanks for the videos. I am addicted to seeing the various approaches to campers you regularly feature.

Traveled from Texas to Northern California one year.in retirement, my parents enjoyed their full-travel trailer and I sometimes camp now with cousins and a sister who have similarly large rigs. Those are cool but my wife and I love the ease of pulling ours with a Jeep, even took it to Disney World one Christmas break.

Wife & I bought a barely used 2018 InTech Flyer in 2020 for $10K cash from a private party. Loaded with camping gear, it weighs less than 2500 lbs on the road. Build is all aluminum with inside insulation. EZ pull for our 22 Toyota Tacoma Off Road 6 cyl with manual trans. It's a utility style trailer and has a rooftop AC/Heat unit + Maxx Air Fan which we use for comfortable & protected sleeping. Has battery & 30 amp connection to run frig, TV, radio. It also has a front pull-out kitchen we cover with a large roof only style tent. The rear of the trailer has the usual utility style double doors where we attach a large Iron Man tent with floor to the camper. This provides us with a large stand-up living/dining area during bad weather & also rear entry into the camper instead of the side door. Is anyone else paranoid about the bed catching on 🔥 being RIGHT NEXT to the stove. I’m a klutz and I am notorious for spilling things, which is one of the main reasons I like rear galleries. For me… less is more so I’d rather get the Meerkat. I also tend to pack waaaaay too much stuff so it doesn’t take much for a trailer this size to get messy (aka trashed) I mentioned on last Tuesdays community page that I just saw that Vistabule has a base model trailer called the Day Tripper for about $1500. I think this is really worth checking out. I’m so glad you present so many different options for camping small. Thanks Drew! I’m still looking forward to more “How too” & “DYI” videos. I looked at the Scamp Lite. Affordable & roomy. I like that you set up your own potty and cooking area outside. So the trailer is more of a place to just sleep or get in out of the weather. There’s also a good amount of storage and room to stand and change your clothes … but will it fit in a regular size garage?

I am intrigued. We are absolutely looking for a garage able trailer that we can stand up in. Why oh why did Little Guy not make the two seats wider so you have the option off a twin bed set up. We would not do the queen bed. But not sure those seats are wide enough as twin beds. Finally we need a bigger fridge option to alleviate the need to bring an extra cooler.

I had a retro jr. by whitewater several years ago. It was 10 of ground clearance. I only ever hit my drop hitch and 90% of the time it was in and out of parking lots and the occasional speed bump

I do like the camper. It's much more than I would need for a weekend but for a long travel on paved roads are nicely gravel roads it would be perfectish... I have never been a fan of the vinyl wallpaper, especially around the sink and cooking area. I'm afraid of delamination. Surprising after all these years they haven't come up with a way to put a side barrier for cooking like if you're cooking bacon you would definitely cover the cushions of your bed area with grease. I noticed the frame is a c channel, so the propane hose they use should be tucked inside of it instead of drooping down. I was pleased to see that it does have brakes though. And on the TV thing... I don't have fires every night and if I am cruising cross-country it is super convenient to have local TV station and get satellite weather. And if I'm stopping off in a small town that is having a parade, I might attend. I have an adapter to hook up to my 16 inch 12 volt tv from my phone. So i can watch Downloaded movies, or if I have reception I get to have KZbin and watch playing with sticks. But, if I am on a couple Day weekend ish, Camp trip a river a lake or a fire is the best view. After a few days off grid its nice to vegg out and watch a flick. And yes i do remember ya'll and your projector. Vacation from a Vacation! Hahahaa! Good stuff Drew. Not sure if I ever told you my name. And I don't expect you to remember. But my name is Sean. A side barrier I never even considered that. But, I would really appreciate it. When we would take out the Scamp, it didn't take us long to come up with a set of rules around what could and couldn't be cooked in the camper. Good eye on that propane. I didn't catch that one at all. I actually remember you being Sean. But, I was hesitant to say it on here in case I was wrong. I remember last spring you shared your name with me. I believe that the Safari Condo from Alto manufactured in Canada, that has a retractable roof can be stored in a standard garage, you can stand up in it, has a comparable weight, and it has the advantage of bringing the outside in which is unparalleled when the roof is raised. As far as having as many amenities, you will have to judge for yourself. It does however carry a hefty price tag of around 40k!

@joniboulware1436 great questions. I assumed the back converted to a bed, but I actually didn’t ask. Hopefully someone can chime in here. As for the aerodynamics, not necessarily. I think it’s more aesthetics for most of us. A square drop definitely has more efficient use of space. And if you can keep that square drop small enough, it can sit well behind your tow vehicle and not add a bunch of additional drag. Especially if you have a larger vehicle.

I love the trailer and I know they build quality! I have two points though....First is the pop out window on the door. A big wind may swing that door and cause damage to that window if you forget to lock the door in place while it is opened. Or do they have high quality wind resistant hinges? Second, with all that available space on the roof, to put only 100 watts seems to me like your just checking a box rather than providing a very high demand solution to the average camper's power needs. I'm sure with the cost of panels, you could provide at least three hundred watts, probably more for very little additional cost. No need for batteries with all the available options for low cost power stations. Not a deal breaker, but it just seems to me they could add an awful lot more value and watts with all that opened space up there.

That is really good to hear. I just attended a Casita rally last month. Around the fire and during the tours I made sure to ask this question. Most people seemed to still be having issues with theirs, but fixed them with simple solutions. However, none of these trailers were new. So thanks again for sharing. One other thing I learned about was rivets. I didn't know Casita owners had issues with rivets. Again, an easy fix but it seemed like everyone who traveled dirt roads had to reinstall a rivet a time or two at some point.

This camper would be perfect for 2 people for 1-3 nights but I don't know if I'd want to cook and spend much time inside for longer than that. Still, a crisp high five to whomever designed that layout! 100% agree on the ground clearance too and this wouldn't be type of camper you want to take properly off-road anyway. The only thing that didn't seem well thought-out is the flip-up window on the door, which is just one gust of wind away from disaster.

I own the mini max from this company. It is a mixed relationship, I love the trailer but as with all companies once you employ staff there is quality issues at every point and that seems to be where everyone's disappointment lays. Simple quality control before trailers exit there shop would solve a lot of problems. In my trailer as an example, one handle for a window was placed too far forward so it cracks the window, they didn't catch it, the dealer when they finally replaced the window didn't catch it and now my replacement is cracked but the company says the warranty is done and won't cover it nor speak to me about it. My door is bent out at the top, because the interior screen frame covers the view of the door it took awhile to see it and of course the response was you are out of warranty. Then there are the standard complains, plastic pieces stopping the facet from working ( you have to clean them out ), drawers not staying closed ( replace latch or pinch the clasp so it holds better ) , window arms not supporting the window, screens aren't connected on the edges so in buggy areas it can be a problem and fuses not only in the box but in the lines, the electric wires being more than messy. But this was the only trailer on the lot that was 17ft, dry 2420, the lot was allowed to do warranty work (some companies wanted to unit returned to the factory) had everything I needed to hitch to my jeep ( with a factory tow package ) and be able to park almost any where and enjoy the out doors, be warm and dry, able to make a meal no matter the weather. Is the microwave pointless and the TV unnecessary in a world full of screens yes for me but loads of people want it. So I hope I can care for my trailer well enough to use her till I physically can't go camping any more. That's my buck cause it is to long of a message to say 2 cents

There’s a big difference between this and the mantis. The mantis is massive. I think a closer comparison would be the cricket. Edit: oops I accidentally hit send before I finished. Even though the cricket is fairly small, I feel it kind of lives bigger than the little guy micromax because it’s a pretty open concept. The cricket is a bit more utilitarian. The micromax is a bit more like a little home on wheels. If you haven’t seen the cricket yet, you should check it out. I think it’s a really neat trailer.

*grumbles* comes with 1 solar panel, I don't know why but i always feel like... in cases like this 1 solar panel is the "lazy" throw on to "pretend" to look cool. most panels are 24" wide. so on a 6'+ trailer you could fit 3 panels... however when adding panels companies then turn around and all to often "off set " the placement... so you MIGHT be able to fit 2 of them in a lopsided configuration. If the company would START with 3 panels like this, running into a 4 slot charge controller.. THEN provide a second charge controller, so you can plug in extra panels if you want, it would be far more efficient and less things for the buyer to worry about. I wouldn't mind a curtain around the toilet just for a small amount of privacy with the door right there. otherwise very nice design, great for single or couple

Funny, I felt the same way about the panel. I think it was the sheer size of the trailer in relation to that small panel that really made it stick out. And 200 watts from renogy today isn't that much more expensive then 100. In terms of a $25K trailer that is. Like you, I would love to see manufacturers make these solare setups more efficient and easier for the end user. This has been my gripe for years. And yes, good point on the current. I felt it seemed awkwardly open, but I didn't even consider talking about a curtain in the cons section. That would have been a good addition. Good seeing you my friend. I always enjoy these posts.

@@PlayingwithSticks Well you know me, always the little nut job with strange idea's. And the fact that that little solar panel is of set, so you'd have panels "lopsided." LOL picture if, "like computers", and other electronic devises that are built to "expand". they had 3 "solar panel slots" painted and outlined on the back of the camper with 3 quick attach connector points above. then you knew, if you had one panel placed, you had space for the other 2... and add to that, if they panted the expansion ports dark with stripes. It would even out the look so if you had 1, or 2 placed you'd look up and still see the blocked off area as all dark... so you get a clean smooth look rather then 1 dark grey/blue/black splotch on the all white body.

I love that idea too. I am currently conceiving how to do the same for a van, or something easily remodeled. The thing that may restrict a trailer/cabin maker is ever present liability, unable to control not only wight but weight distribution. Whoever does it needs liability waivers and to provide a format for determining center of gravity, tongue weight, and all else to do with safety. To do all that in a budget rolling cabin Carrie’s it’s own complications.

No mention about a lithium battery option. This is 2024! This should come with a lithium capable charge controller. Wiring should also come with buss connections so you can add an inverter and transfer switch. If you have 2 100 Amp-hr lithium batteries, you could run the AC or use the microwave without generator or utility plug in.

I have just a little info. They made a public statement saying they are temporarily closed due to some supply chain issues. They also mentioned that they would not be closing permanantly, but had to make some decisions due to the current small camper trailer economy. They alluded to potentially downsizing their shop/operation. This isn't new for Little Guy. These guys, while still under the same owner have changed shops, company names, locations, many times in the past. I have a feeling this won't be the last we hear from them. BUT, this is a big red flag that the industry may be coming into some tough times ahead. These guys have been around for over 22 years. If they are huring, unfortunately there is going to be others experiencing the same issues with their small ma and pa teardrop shops.

How is 7 foot 3 inches garage easy? Most garage doors are under just under 7 feet.

We don’t have a television either. But people enjoy their trailers for a lot of reasons and a variety of situations. We like to go to state parks and sightsee nearby. Haven’t taken ours tailgating, but I can see that being fun, too. And if we did, a television would be nice for keeping up with the day’s games.

Please don't gate keep camping in trailer campers that way. At the end of the day or on a rainy day. We love sitting back with the kids and watch our favorite movies.
