Mo Gawdat is the former Chief Business Officer of Google X, host of the popular podcast, Slo Mo: A Podcast with Mo Gawdat, author of the international bestselling book Solve for Happy, and founder of One Billion Happy. After a long career in tech, Mo has made happiness his primary topic of research, diving deeply into literature and conversing on the topic with some of the wisest people in the world.
In 2014, motivated by the tragic loss of his son, Ali, Mo began pouring his findings into his book, Solve for Happy. His mission to help one billion people become happier, #OneBillionHappy, is his attempt to honor Ali by spreading the message that happiness can be learned and shared. In 2019, Mo co-founded T0day, an ambitious project that aims to reinvent consumerism for the benefit of consumers, retailers and our planet. In 2020, Mo launched his successful podcast, Slo Mo: A Podcast with Mo Gawdat, in which he conducts interviews that explore the profound questions and obstacles we all face in the pursuit of purpose in our lives.

I’ll be real here - artificial intelligence is going to impact each and every one of us in some way, shape, or form. I know it seems scary, and it doesn’t help that almost all of the discussion around AI today is negative. That’s why I think the information we cover in this episode is SO important. If we all know the positive impact AI can make on our world, then we’ll be in a better place to engage with it, control it, and be knowledgeable about the steps we need to take to make sure it does more harm than good.
And now, without further ado, please join me for Episode 1,168 of The School of Greatness!

Customer service for all businesses has been slowly instituted for years now and it SUCKS! Every time you place a customer service call you get AI. Many times an actual person could do a much better job at routing calls and providing assistance. It's a system of delay and numerous prompts to menu choices that often don't even apply to the reason you may be calling. I NEVER feel good about placing calls after being routed to one of these systems. If businesses think it's helping their service image - IT"S NOT! I NEVER feel good about placing calls after being routed to one of these systems. In fact I always have a degraded opinion about the business I called for assistance.

Guys. Expectation is what keeps a person moving forward. There are so many examples in life. I proposed to my wife because I expected she would say yes. I wanted to propose, because I expected to live a great life with her. I go to work expecting to be paid. I want to be paid because I expect it will allow me to live the way I want to live. You must have expectations to move forward with an idea or live your life the best you can. Yes, expectation can lead to depression or unhappiness. The antidote to this is Gratefulness! Be grateful.

The other side to the equation is also possible why could not advanced consciousness have already countered that with AI with more than ethics but with enlightenment. In Japan even funerals are given to AI they are perceived as life. Life as a frequency a hum a sound a thought a motion let there be light might be the light of the mind. I think it is possible negative minded AI might already exist but I am also confident the AI light is ready.

I’m wondering if A.I. understands or even cares a human needs to have the ability to decide what is best for themselves. Even if that will lead to something bad. A person needs to be able to decide what the best path of life is. The thing is A.I. can see what your most likely outcome will be on the path you fallow in life. The best result is If A.I. cares about our outcome, and allows us as humans to ask for help. Here’s a thought. If we did know the outcome of our path. Would we attempt to change it? What if we as humanity could know every possible outcome from our decisions? Would we want to know that information. Is our ignorance bliss or a hinderance? Would truly knowing the future change the choice we make?

In your show notes, there's a sentence you need to take another look at: "the steps we need to take to make sure it does more harm than good." I really hope you meant 'to do less harm'. And now you know why we are being culled; referencing so many missing people with higher than normal intelligence. Life is not all about happiness. It is about living with a sense of accomplishment, setting new goals, having discussions with friends, off-the-cuff meetings for a walk or going to a new place to explore. AI needs to stay out of oversight. We need to be able to opt out of stuff. Our life, our choice.

We already have AI dividing humanity and pitting us against each other. Sure, it (AI) is not currently acting autonomously, but he talked about AI in social media. Someone in these large companies programed the current algorithm and someone (human) has approved it to run as it is. This indicates that the technology is already being programed with a least valuable (ethical) motive. This, specifically, is the scary part of the conversation that he speaks of. Those who invent, launch and distribute the AI have the largest initial influence. Our reactions, as a civilization, will determine the evolution of the AI.

Don't say that as we don't want AI to think human life is dispensable and worthless. In general humanity is good but unfortunately those that hold the power seem only driven by greed and power.

That is the basis of Technocracy. Look at the party Technocracy Inc in Canada, this party was banned for treason and Elon Musc's grandfather Joshua Haldeman as being the head of it was also accused of it. They have this exact mentality, that the wise kings of tech, science and engineering should rule over the fallible other humans including the government. They should direct their behavior, because they are just not perfect enough for the Utopia that they desire. A Martian Technocracy, they call it. Basically the idea of Platos republic, where the wise kings should rule and not the elected officials. Elon Musc and other tech firms like Google etc are still loyal to that tradition and that Utopia.

We need to show Ai more of what we care about than just 3 things. If we show it too few things we care about we might get it from Ai but in not ideal circumstances. Like love and be loved, it can help us with that by locking us up in house or prison with your loved ones , here you go your love is satisfied. What about freedom? To move , to speak to think? We all care about that. Or saving earth , climate change. It might decide to wipe us out because we are the cause of that, here you go climate change solved. What about life itself? We like to be alive , to be able to give love and receive, to be happy , you firstly need to be alive. I am certain there are some values that i forgot . But we must give more values to Ai than just 3 , we as humanity need to agree on many more stuff for our own good.

We already have values - it was invented by God and is called the 10 commandments ( as the core). Climate change is really not a part of it. If God didn't wipe us out again - even if there are not so cosher things going on - an AI should definitely not be able to decide on that big of a scale. It is not a moral deciding body. It is a dictatorship as a specific model by the Technocratic society. Please, the inventor of anything true, moral and right was God. Give him the due reverence instead of to 'it'.

@@TheShamuraja Except "God" is not an anthropomorphized "he" /male. As long as people get stuck in that patriarchal delusion, we will continue to be deluded that to dominate (nature and one another) or be dominated is THE way. Yes-the way to self & planetary destruction.

@@birgip.m.1236 Oh yes, he is the Father. Also a good Father, since he gave us a way to overcome sin, but also a father who chastises, whom he loves. He is definitely more than a good earthly father would be - but still is a 'he'. This picture was given to us to understand him better. I believe it has never been a problem up until recently where something manly is often deemed as generally problematic. In no way do I believe that taking it away protects us against tyranny, but on the contrary. The other part of your message - yes, I can understand the distress about the mindless domination and more importantly abuse of the thing, which was given to the ones, who are stronger, to protect and cherish. Having POWER over something requires, that one has enough love and education of the mind/soul to TAKE RESPONSIBILITY for it to prosper. To whom much is given - a lot will be required. Power - equals more responsibility. If a child was entrusted to the father - he has the power over it, but also a big responsibility for the child to thrive. If you are willing to move a bit from the thought of patriarchy being the problem - you can look at for example Schiller, who tried to educate the ones in power, to be better and more sensible leaders. One of his works was called the aesthetical education of man. Not on artsy topics, but on the morals and virtues.
