Now that takes real courage on the part of the tractor driver - having your cabin partially swamped would be very scary. 😃👌👏👏👏❤️

Scary for the launch vehicle driver. I’m surprised some have questioned the way the lifeboat is launched. My guess is that the RNLI know what there doing folks. It’s not an untried and unproven method.

That tractors must have a snorkel for air and exhaust. Also wiring well insulated lol. That was awesome. I thought the tractor was going on the resume as well. Awsome brave guys 👍.... Respect to all RNLI people out there.
@WaBaker882 жыл бұрын
You can see the Snorkel just behind the cab where the driver is sitting. For the exhaust. The engine is sealed with hydraulic shutters getting air from the snorkel

Wondeful launch folks. Full of admiration to ALL of the RNLI crews. I think I would be more frightened in that tractor though with the waves submerging it than I would on the boat. :-)

I think for safety they should have a rope or winch line attached to the tractor from the shore for recovery purposes just in case of mechanical failure
@WaBaker882 жыл бұрын
There is already a long rope and a winch attached to the tractor that connects it to the trailer. If the tractor bogs down, it can ditch the trailer and make its OK way out.

@@My_everydaylife. Ah, I understand your comment, there is a ring bolted half way up the ramp, the tractor can spool out a winch and connect if it is needed. Very often it's not, it is more than capable.

Great work. They almost need a rope and pully system to an anchor to get them offshore. Then disconnect once uderway The tractor can pull the rope.
@morg522 жыл бұрын
I think they could have timed their entry a little better. Maybe running in during a trough instead of a oncoming wave. But it seems obvious that the tractor was made for this with a watertight cab and solid ramp underneath to drive on.

There's got to be a better way....could the tongue of the trailer be longer so the tractor doesn't have to go so far in?
@Danielmerlin138 жыл бұрын
It's not a tractor it's designed for that
@laprepper7 жыл бұрын
yes, yes it could. or better yet just a gravity launch with rails to carry the craft far enough out to float at any tide.
@ram64man6 жыл бұрын
LA Prepper not an option I’m afraid this is a general public use boat launch with variable tide water level, I agree with others that a better /longer launch trailer, and tractor could be used as that was a very slow deployment
@douglasstocks96985 жыл бұрын
@@ram64man they were timing it with the waves. So they didn't launch into a big and poss capsize the boat.
@ram64man5 жыл бұрын
Douglas Stocks ah forgot about that but even so in rough water this surely isn’t the best method to launch for either team , I still stick by my original comment

I wonder what the recovery is like? I am surprised the tow vehicle was still running after being submerged!
@ChattyCharlie7 жыл бұрын
All RNLI tractors are designed to be completely submerged up to the top of the cabin, they have weighted tires and can go fairly deep.
@jockwood23986 жыл бұрын
In bad weather they do a "net capture" there is a shock mounted net fitted to the front of the trailer, the boat comes in qute fast onto the trailer into the net and is captured on the trailer,

Our shoreline has a sandbank, possibly at the time, he was thinking of pushing the trailer over the bank but its up to the boat when they want to leave the carriage. The beach is changing everyday. Hope that helps.

Ya, they need a much longer trailer tongue. There is no reason for the tractor to go that deep. The tongue could be so long it would need a set of wheels in the middle to keep it off the deck.

LMAO! They have to be kidding, right? It would have been better if they built a sea wall about 200-300 metres from the launching area to protect boats on the ramp than launch or retrieve boats in choppy water. A sea wall, either made of large rocks, or concrete blocks could help calm the water at the ramp and you don't have to risk any injuries by being smashed with the boat while trying to retrieve it back on the trailer. I have a speed boat and know how difficult it is to reload the boat back on the trailer, especially when idiots on their personal water craft speeding in the vicinity of the ramp are creating choppy water. Try it, you will understand what it's like when idiots are churning water around you.

It looks backwards, but coastal launch have a long history, choosing the tractor trailer give them the ability to operate from the sand anywhere, problem here being that the time they need to go out is when the ocean is the worst. they can launch form the best spot and time the launch. *the obvious option is a long track for the trailer, but that was done for some years and have mostly been abandoned, guess it did not rock the users that much.
