Almost exactly 9 years ago Haruna played her last show with Destrose-I saw that show, at RockMayKan. At that time she said she would no longer be active on the music scene. . . . The rest is history. Btw, Haruna and Akane, drummer of Band-Maid, who you just reacted to, share December birthdays and they're friends. LB and B-M have played two shows on the same bill, 2018 and 19, but Haruna and Akane have been buddies longer. Cross-band friendships are common in Japan, especially among the all-female bands, as they often have shared the bill on what is no doubt the most active club and fest scene in the world.

I should add that at that final Destrose show, being that it was Christmas Eve, Haruna actually sang "Winter Wonderland" as one of the encore tunes, with vocalist Risa playing drums. They were dressed in cute Christmasy outfits for the encore.

Some people say why Haruna doesn't do solos........because everything she does in every song is like a solo......

I'm not a drummer, either, but I have noticed that Haruna provides much more than tempo and time. She spends a lot of time accenting vocals and guitar runs as well. I suspect all those cymbals give her different "voices" to add those extra bits. Keith Moon did much the same thing although in a more chaotic way. Haruna's double bass work and tom excursions are no less impressive to me. She has no weaknesses that I can see.

Happy day of her birth to the Big Little Engine !! It's incredible how she can kick and splash with a smile on her face at that speed for nearly 2-hour LIVE shows and look like it's just meh, another day in the office.

Little Big Engine is fabulous, she seems to play effortlessly and when we see her on some videos greeting the audience at the end of a concert, she doesn't even look tired!!! As for his cymbal playing, it’s exceptional. Happy birthday Haruna.

I played some drums in the past. I think the small cymbals are bells fir that short sharp accents. She has several crash/splash cymbals and I think two rides. The fact that she's able to reach all those at that speed says something about her incredible hand coordination. I think riding the snare is purely a sound choice I think.

Happy birthday to Harupi for sure!! Yeah this is a great series of clips that I have enjoyed before, but I certainly wish there were more as I think she is an awesome drummer and we don't get to see what she's doing nearly enough!! I believe I've heard that Bell cymbal referred to as an 'Ice Bell,' but certainly don't mind being corrected if I'm wrong! Hope she gets more 'spotlight' in the future!!

Thanks for this, for Haruna !! Putting what we see & hear into words is not always easy, as you know... I think Haruna's use of steady-snare is the 'anchor' for the timing of the songs in general while her use of 'accent cymbals' are 'cues' for transitions (specifically-pitched splash, crash, bell & china that are all quick-decay so as to avoid prolonged 'ringing' that can obscure her detail). Her precision in timing and placement-of-stick-hit transcends the accent-cymbals locations being "in the way". Having 'studied' her the best I can, it seems the steady-snare sometimes 'obscures' the detail & nuances of her precision fills/accents she plays simultaneously while their timing is quite different, also supporting vocal & chordal melody, unlike any other drummer I am familiar with. Also somewhat obscured is her phenomenal use of dbl-kicks, on&off at perfect moments, sometimes the 'spaces' are what forms the 'accents' when the kick-pattern is 'non-stop' for segments. The more closely one listens, the more impressive Haruna's drumming is revealed to be. Also worthy of note is her stamina and delightfully joyful presentation as someone thoroughly enjoying what she is doing, right through the final songs of a 2-hour performance wherein those songs are at least as demanding as those at the beginning. In my opinion Haruna is unsurpassed in skill and 'taste' with her fills & accents that consistently enhance songs without ever 'overplaying' or distracting from the other members parts, solos or vocals. "Appropriately-Busy" Thanks for encouraging viewers to listen to the complete "Paranoia > Dystopia Symphony" video. ttbomk no LIVE or MV of either song are yet available. "Dystopia ... " was played LIVE at final show of "Ride For Vengeance" tour in Osaka, but if recorded, not released. I think these two songs are among their most 'progressive' compositions.

@RockCandy-ix3nn, I suggest putting "LOVEBITES" in the title of this video since many may not be familiar enough to know Haruna being their drummer, or this relatively obscure song "Paranoia" being from LOVEBITES. I think adding "LOVEBITES" will bring more views. Thanks for all our efforts in support of this band, your camaraderie with Wolf-Pack and your interesting observations/reactions! It's a new year and we all look forward to 'dates' added to LOVEBITES USA Tour !! Something in the Northwest for me! Anywhere Pacific Coast will get me to travel. Not sure why but my previous comment at time of your posting seems unnoticed & in review, some comments I know I 'liked' now have no 'likes' at all... u2b-dysfunction I imagine, but just to let you know that you are getting more responses/interaction from viewers than is seen or acknowledged by u2b's 'systems'. Thanks for the 'shout-out' ! 🐺 dreg👁

Knuckle-dragging bass player here. I think a "rim-shot" is when the side of the stick hits the rim at the same time as the tip hits the skin. I've heard "side-stick" to describe where the stick is held with the butt end tucked against the inside of the rim and the tapped across the skin. But, what do I know?

Happy birthday to one of the greatest drummers on the planet as of today, she is definitely following suit to so many greats of the past, it is almost impossible to name them all. Above it all it is bombastic and graceful to hear her jam on the skins. In 2021 I asked Haruna if she was ever going to do a drum solo and behold she did these clips, and there is a drum solo with Stand and Deliver kzbin.info/www/bejne/mWqrqJ6mbduGpZI I have heard people call it an ice bell cymbal (the upside-down one), She reminds me a lot of Cozy Powell riding the snare, Cozy played with major rock bands and artists such as The Jeff Beck Group, Rainbow, Michael Schenker Group, Gary Moore, Graham Bonnet, Brian May, Whitesnake, Emerson, Lake & Powell, and Black Sabbath. One thing I know is that when they were interviewed in the very beginning they wanted to adopt a signature sound that only Lovebites would do. As Asami once put it we are a lone wolf and we are not like the rest, We are Lovebites and We play Heavy Metal.

@@RockCandy-ix3nn Playing like she does for a couple of hours at a time in a concert, she has to be efficient. A full concert is hard on any drummer I'm sure, but she doesn't seem to waste any energy that she doesn't have to. Except the stick twirls maybe. Ha!Ha!

🤘🐺♠👸🤘Live at ExTheatre Roppongi,Tokyo - 2023 March 11 - KNOCKIN’ AT HEAVEN’S GATE - StageGear Japan . Haruna's drum set is a kit that combines Pearl Crystal Beat's bass drum and floor tom with Decade Maple's melodic tom. The toms are 8″, 10″, 12″ and the floor tom is 16″. The floor tom is also set up as a single head without the bottom head. The snare is a 14″×5.5″ brass shell model from the Pearl Reference series. The stick is a Vic Frith 5AN wrapped in Pearl grip tape Tight Grip. All drums are equipped with Roland triggers, and the sound is created by mixing the sound using the Roland TM-2 and TM-6 PRO modules, which will be introduced later, and the live sound mic'ed. The kick pedal is a Pearl Eliminator SOLO “RED” Double Pedal. The beater is a quad beater B-250QB with a plastic side R surface. On the right hand side were the Roland TM-2 and Roland TM-6 PRO trigger modules, as well as the YAMAHA MG06X mixer for monitor balance adjustment. A star-shaped cymbal that can be said to be a trademark of Haruna. It is decorated with the letters "LOVEBITES HARUNA" and rhinestones lining the surroundings. I think perhaps , and like you I'm no expert , that the prevalence of the snare rather than the toms is as a sort of counterbalance to the heavy use of the bass drums . Few genres use the double bass ( and double pedals )as much as speed metal and I think this might negate the reliance on the toms that you hear in so many other genres . Might be talking out my ass - but that's how it appears to me 🤷‍♂
