Hi Katie! I am a new subscriber. I just found your unboxing of the Happy Cheetah and this review video. I am looking into LA curriculum for my 2nd grader next year. We did All About Reading Level 1 last year and it was fine, but it didn't work on spelling, writing or grammar. We also did some Explode the Code level 2 (skipping some of the free writing). My son is also on the Spectrum and struggles with writing and some letter sounds. We haven't started really started grammar yet but this program sounds interesting. I would love to see your son doing a lesson!

I just want to say that your channel has been such a blessing!! I have an older child with dyslexia and a younger one who I foresee will also have neurodiverse learning. We have religiously done AAR and AAS with my older child who will be going into level 4. However, my younger one going into Kinder this year really struggles with blending and the automaticity needed to begin AAR level 1. I actually did the AAR pre-k with him and hoped he’d be ready for AAR level 1. He also went through before explode the code A, B, and C. I’m desperate to find something that will work for him….I believe he is a more visual learner….any brilliant curriculum suggestions…do you think this might be a better fit than AAR? I’ve entertained the Dianne Craft Right Brian learner…Help please :)

How many lessons are in each book? Do you feel like there's an avenue for extra practice for a child who needs significantly more repetitions than average to learn?
@LifeintheMundane
@LifeintheMundane 4 жыл бұрын
There are 90 lessons in lesson one. There is a lot of repetition built in but if your child needs more there are so many ways you could do that especially with practicing the readers more, working with the letter tiles, and playing the games with the flash cards.

Does the cheetah program go over every sound a letter makes? For example the 3 sounds “a” makes…2 sounds “g” makes? Or does it present only the one way to sound each letter? I’m looking into Logic of English vs Cheetah.
@LifeintheMundane
@LifeintheMundane 3 жыл бұрын
I know for a fact it shares more then one sound of A as far as if it present all the sounds I’m not a 100% sure as we have not finished the program yet but you could shoot them an email. They are very quick to respond and very helpful.

I’ve been curious about this program, great review! My son will be going into 3rd and is on the spectrum, we currently do abeka for language arts, it’s a lot but I do like the phonics focus. Do you feel happy cheetah covers enough for spelling to not need to supplement? It sounds like I would just need to supplement for language?
@LifeintheMundane
@LifeintheMundane 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah spelling wise I felt it was sufficient personally.
@jennythomas3985

How does it teach reading without doing phonics? I'm just about to start kindergarten/1st grade and I am so nervous about reading because I was never taught phonics and I don't know how to sound out bigger words so I always thought that I need to teach phonics. I'm really not feeling explode the Code materials that I bought for my 2 kids who are at the same level of reading and I love this review so I would like your wisdom. I want my kids to love reading because it took me a long time to fall in love with reading and I was also never good in spelling or grammar and I am determined to get my kids to a better place than I am.
@LifeintheMundane
@LifeintheMundane 4 жыл бұрын
So I honestly don't know the "official" answer but the way I have seen it work is that it has so much repetition that it takes the work out of reading for kids and then with sequencing they build on the skills till they introduce harder and harder words and concepts. They do teach blends and things like that in the later books so it builds for sure. I love that they are so intentional about adding to what they already know. They cycle in new info mixed with old constantly until you don't even realize how far you have come. Sorry that is so not a "pretty" answer but the website might give more official answers. happycheetah.com/?LifeintheMundane

Thank you for sharing about this! We do TGTB with my older 2 boys my third one did great with pre-k & primer k and level k was way to much he will be 7 this summer so I even waited a year but this past year we have been doing crafty classroom read program, which was a better fit but he still is struggling. He does seem to do much better with sight words than phonics he flips a lot if letters all the time, Do you recommend just ordering level k happy cheetah and going through fast what he already knows? How did you decide where to start? I don’t know how familiar you are with TGTB but Do you think if we don’t do TGTB level 1 he will miss to much grammar?
