I wish they’d shown the end here. Richie’s parents come in and find Fonzie has fallen asleep in the room and then Richie wakes up. It ends with Fonzie looking toward the sky and giving God his signature Aye.

According to the writers, this episode was done especially so that those younger viewers who (as so many kids do) were emulating the Fonz and his ability to be "cool" and tough would also realize that it was ok to cry. From anything I have ever read about the episode, he got the message across loud and clear. Superb work.

If that's what it takes, then that's what it takes! Sometimes, we just need to realize that Almighty God truly does love us, and that he wants to save us. That's why Jesus came, to give his life for us...on an old rugged cross, so that we can be sorry that we sinned, and ask Jesus Christ to forgive our sins, and then we receive Jesus Christ, as our Savior and Lord! God wants us in Heaven so much, that that was what he had to do. I personally want to love him more and more, as the days go by!

I’m not religious but found this one of best scenes of the series. The tough guy opening up and showing us he’s as vulnerable as all of us when the chips are down. What a great character. Wish the show stayed the same format it did the first 2 seasons. Later seasons (including this scene) were done in front of an audience and it seemed less poignant.

The first two or three seasons were incredible. I was crazy about the Fonzie character, and I plan to read Henry Winkler's memior, but Richie made the show. Ron Howard played that role incredibly well. The seasons without him weren't that good, and it was his show. However, Ron Howard and Henry Winkler were magic together on screen. Come on now... take it easy on The Fonz, ok? Remember:The Fonz didn't have a strong Religious upbringing, and apparently didn't even know how to pray...but God understood all of this, because God knows everything about us...and he still loves us. Look, for a moment, at one of the thieves that was on his Cross. He, at one point, actually defended Jesus Christ...and then, in quite possibly a state of being desperate for God's mercy, asked Jesus:"Lord, remember me, when thou comest into thy Kingdom". He didn't know if Jesus would show him any mercy at all, after all the sins that he'd committed. Then, he got the shock of his life, when Jesus Christ looked DIRECTLY AT HIM, and said:"Verily, verily, I say unto thee, this day shalt thou be with me in Paradise". That thief was forgiven for ALL OF HIS PAST SINS, when Jesus Christ said that to him! Imagine that:The first convert to Jesus, was the thief on the Cross!!! Jesus Christ the same, yesterday, today, and forever!!!

People don’t get that the Fonzie character was the Christ character. When he hit that jukebox it wasn’t confidence that made him know it would turn on. It was faith. Faith displayed is the most attractive trait there is. Then and Now more than ever they r try to make it look like thee trait of a rebel when in actuality it is rebellious in an upside down world but that rebellion is absolute obedience to a much better place that knows what “better” means. So ya it’s “cool” . Which is y “cool” is so desperately hated(and in this world now) so heavily sabotaged and imitated. Because it doesn’t belong to us. And weak people want ownership. Strong people know that strength doesn’t come from us and they are not confident. They have faith .

Here's the thing. ALL the acting on "Happy Days" was pretty cheesy. The writing was standard sitcom fare of the day, lots of schmaltz, lots of goofy, unrealistic characters and conflicts. Winkler's crying here isn't exactly what you'd call "naturalistic" acting by modern standards. But for what it WAS? It WORKED. The Fonz was my FAVORITE as a kid. I even had a Fonzie pinball machine in my room. Winkler created an absolutely legendary icon. I remember watching this episode, and I bawled my head off, along with my sister and my mom. (It reminded me of an old social engineering movie they showed us in 5th grade with football star Rosey Grier (sp?), and he sang a song called "It's All Right to Cry.")
