Nice vid skipper. You finally showed you landing a few bugs. Was getting worried about the volume you've been landing. It's fine for the boat to get paid. But the crew needs to eat also. Those new three compartment traps are going to do it for you. Trust me on that one. Larger, heavier & more expensive... But they'll be money makers. As usual. Another great video Barry,so well presented. Some lovely lobsters caught and very well earned. You are such a conscientious and respectful fisherman and you deserve every success. Is fresh mackerel the optimum bait or is there alternatives? Do you continue fishing after the lobster and crab season for other species of fish? I would recommend a well earned rest!! Regards Dave from broadstairs Kent.
@onemanandhisboat Жыл бұрын
Hi Dave. Thank you so much for your kind comment and your support. We are so glad you are enjoying the vlogs. It makes all our hard work worthwhile 😍😁👌 I will always do my best for our fishery and for the future generations that want to come to this lifestyle. 😍👌 Lobstering in the North Sea is all year round these days,but the summer season is usually the highest to catch stock, and Xmas being the 2nd best time of year due to the prices being high, so you don't really need to catch a lot to survive. 😁 Unfortunately, the firth of forth and North Sea estuary really doesn't have much left to catch after mackerel. There is a cod season from November to March. However, I don't really like catching fish that isn't full of abundance , plus that's their breeding time, so best leave a good eating fish alone, rather than use it for bait. I Hooe that answers your questions, bud. Hope you have a lovely day. All the best.😊

Please describe/explain how pots are fixed to main string? Thanks
@onemanandhisboat Жыл бұрын
Hi Thank you so much for your comment and question. From the main string, there is a smaller rope we call a beckett. This is usually around 1 fathom in length ( 6ft) The beckett is spliced to the main rope, then a knotted back turn on that splice. The loose end of the beckett is then put through a spinner, which is a plastic swivel. Tied off with a single or double sheet bend knot. The other end of that swivel is already attached to the creels small beckett, which is attached to either the bow of the creel or the bottom. I hope that explains how we attach the creels to the main line. There is a vlog in there somewhere where you actually see me setting up the pots. All the best.😊

We must have posh lobsters I guess.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I have done a wee question like that to the fishermen of this channel. Stinky or fresh...and I must say, the results were very mixed, and it all depends on what part of the country you are from. Cornwall Devon, stinky. Forth, Murray firth, fresh, West Coast of Scotland fresh. Wales stinky and fresh. Ireland stinky. So, as you can see, it's a mixed bag. Thank you so much for commenting and asking your question. I didn't quite catch what you said on the female lobster you V notched and returned. Was she within the 90mm to 145mm legal landing range, but carrying eggs, and therefore you put her back in accordance with the regulations?
@onemanandhisboat Жыл бұрын
Hi Paul. Thank you for your comment. I'm so sorry you quite make out what I was saying, as I do get a tad excited when I see a bonnie beastie, like that!😍 sometimes, I struggle to get my words out because of that excitement 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 The maximum landing size is 145 mm So she could have been landed. And she wasn't carrying any eggs at that moment. It rare to get a bonnie lobster like that, so I done the right thing, and v- notched her, to protect her from other fishermen landing her. A lobster like that is better in the sea to breed than in the buyers' ponds for a few pounds sterling. 😁👌 I think that was the just of what I was saying....I hope that helps.😁👌 All the very best.😊
