I have noticed, over the years, that it is often a mistake to walk up to within a few feet of the water to make your first casts! Often I have flicked my first cast from 20 ‘ on the land from the shore and only about 3 feet or less from the bank and have often had a nice fish strike my flys! If there are trout near the bank and you walk right up and scare them, they flee and scare the trout further out and you have diminished your opportunity! You may not even know you did it! Seems true as often as it is not, in my experience! The weather on this side of the pond is yet to get to where you are now! But I saw some green sprouting in the flower bed yesterday so hope springs eternal! 😃😃

Thank you, Mike, for your tip and thank you for watching. Hopefully next week will be a bit more spring like, with a south westerly wind and all the trout are only too eagerly taking the fly.

Same cold conditions here in Co Antrim Dietrich, fish not showing yet, and no fly life to speak of.

That's what it is at the moment, Richard. Next week might be better. All the best and cheers.

Greeting Dietrich I have finally watched all your video's from the past to present and really enjoy your content. One question, can you explain or your thoughts on why all the Brown trout in your local 100s of lakes and steams are so small all the time? There seems to be no fishing pressure there. I'm curious to your though. Here in Colorado and Wyoming our Brown trout can get large and they are not native here and we have way more fishing pressure then you do it looks like. Those lakes of yours I would have thought would produce some bigger trout. Thanks and tight line and take care.

Thank you for watching and liking our little movies, sir. Most of our lakes have acid water due to the high turf content, therefore growth is minimal, no great insect life, no big trout. However, there are some lakes bordering on limestone and here the trout grow to a much bigger size. Names and locations of these lakes are among Donegal's best kept secrets. All the best, greetings from Donegal, Ireland, cheers and tight lines.

Hello Jamie, all the content is on KZbin or WordPress these days. Should you have any questions, just contact me. All the best, thank you for watching our little movies and have a good trip to Ireland, and of course tight lines.

@@DietrichBohnhorst thank you very much for replying Dietrich. I very much enjoy your movies & the insight into life in Donegal. During my last visit to Ireland I only got time for an hour or two on a stream, so the next trip will be mainly just to fish! Could you possibly please explain the rules for access to the various lakes you fish; are they open to the public or by invitation only etc? Could I simply turn up during the season & fish as you do?
@DietrichBohnhorst5 ай бұрын
@@jamie-qe9hm Hi Jamie, in general, for rivers you need a permit, most of the lakes however are free, but it is always good to ask locally, particularly if you want to open gates or climb fences. Some lakes belong to clubs and mostly signs at the water tell you where to get a permit, but the lake trouting in Donegal is still relatively easy. Have a good time and all the best.
@jamie-qe9hm5 ай бұрын
@@DietrichBohnhorst that’s a great help. Thank you very much Dietrich. If we meet at one of those lakes, I’ll buy the beers afterwards! All the best, & tight lines.

Usually, when you hit the right day in March, the fishing can be great; this year though the endless easterly winds have spoiled that. All the best, Rafton and cheers.

the fishing is so poor at the moment as much as u are good crack 😅
