Was privileged to see this family almost 60 years ago. Loved them then, love them now.

I never got to see the whole family. But I did get to see Vestal at Little Rock at a Gaither Homecoming concert. It was the last one they did and were taking off the rest of the month for Christmas and she passed away during that break. I felt blessed to get to finally see her in person, but would have loved to have seen the whole group. The videos of them are so great.

@richsam9239 my wife and I are both in our 80s, and when we first married we didn't have a lot of money but we did save a few dollars and get to attend a monthly gospel sing which was so special to us. Each month we got to see many of the pro singers such as The Blackwoods, The Klaudt Indian Family, The Tennesseans, The Oakridge Boys, The Happy Goodman Family, The Imperials and so many others, can't remember them all.

@@jamesmarcum5450 I was a DJ at a local Christian radio station from my late teens to mid twenties. I was having to be pretty thrifty too. We promoted several of the groups and I met some wonderful people during my time as music director there.

SO DID i . we had Church at granddaddy's, cause daddy said that he didn't want his daughter going to a church where he just got drunk with the preacher the night before, so we listened to radio shows on sunday, the quartets are the best
Love it...old time gospel was the best. Vestal definitely lived by the " the higher the hair, the closer to Heaven" rule....:)

Saw them live one week, the Florida Boys the next week, and the Hinsons soon after in the 70s. What a great year that was. Best Gospel singing (and ministering) for that time in my life. Missed the Cathedrals concert, that would have been the icing on the cake for that year.

That would have been awesome. I was born in the wrong era. I came around in the mid 70s and by the time I got old enough to buy the albums, the original family had disbanded. But many of the folks we went to church with had their albums from the original family's heyday. I loved listening to them. When the internet came around with ebay, I have found and purchased most of them. Love finding these old live videos too. Have a nice evening.

This song shows both sides of the Goodmans music ministry. They exhibit tightly controlled harmony on the first verse and chorus; and then spirit filled shouting music on the last couple of choruses.

Sam and Howard always seemed to hold together pretty tight, but when they turned Rusty and Vestal loose...stuff happened and the roof raised in a big way. Loved to hear their live recordings. You could just feel the spirit in it. Their studio work was great too.
