I was raised up in a bootleggers home , the only church I seen was the one next to the field we played football in. My cousins invited me to go to church with them when I was about 11 years old. The Sunday school teacher was one of the hateful teachers in my school that looked down on my who family. She embarrassed me by asking me question from the bible, I knew nothing about the bible I never went back to church after that day. But on Sunday mornings I would watch the Gospel Jubilee and listen to the Happy Goodman Family , and the Singing Cookes of whom I went to school with two of the Cooke brothers . I enjoyed Rusty Goodman's voice and still do today .

Love the steel guitar! That was the gospel music I loved and grew up on! They sang for the praises to God and not to be just heard! Man, I long to be able to hear that kind of heart string music again! I pray that God gives me the strength to live the life for him! So, I can be with him and hear this beautiful music with all my friends and loved ones! Thank you Jesus!

There’s A Lighthouse On The Hillside, That Overlooks Life’s See. And When I’m Tossed It Sends Out A Light, That I Might Clearly See. And The Light That Shines In Darkness Now, Will Safely Lead Me Over. If It Wasn’t For The Lighthouse My Ship Would Sail No More. And I Thank God For The Lighthouse. I Owe My Life To Him. For Jesus Is The Lighthouse, And From The Rocks Of Sin. He Has Shown His Light Around Me, That I Might Clearly See. If It Wasn’t For The Lighthouse, Where Would This Ship Be? Everybody That Lives Around Us, Says To Tear That Old Lighthouse Down. The Big Ships Don’t Sail This Way Anymore, Ain’t No Use In It Hanging Round. Then My Mind Goes Back To That Stormy Night, When Just In Time I Saw, The Light From That Old Lighthouse That Stands Up There On The Hill.

Can someone tell me what caused the deaths of Rusty & Sam. I loved the Goodmans. I have been sitting listening to them today non-stop for the last 6 hours. As a fairly new widow, their music blesses my breaking heart. Though we had over 57 years together it is still a great loss. We were blessed many, many years ago when Vestil & Howard sang at our church. Praising the Lord and looking forward to going home one day.

I’m not positive but I was at that concert I think was at that concert. I think that was in Jackson Ms. at the city auditorium. No big deal but the presents of the Lord was in that building that night. The Oak Ridge boys, Thasher Bros., and the Florida Boys were there also. Although the Hinsons wrote that song Rusty made it what it is. Great voice and also great steel guitar playing in it.

This was before Vestal started wearing lots of makeup and painted red lips and nails... she sure made up for it in her later years . She should have kept the wig beehive in her later years... it complimented her ... lots of people went to see the Goodman’s just to see Vestals hair and long gowns. TRUTH!
