This is really great. I used this practice schedule and it really helped me to improve. Even if I skipped it sometimes because of schoolwork, it made me improve so much faster. Stuff I struggled with, like hands and how fabrics drape, I can now draw so much better, so thank you

I'd say instead of only practice, try to do more masterpieces! Of course practice is important but don't _only_ practice but also _actually create_ art. The more pieces you finish, the better you become! Through each piece you learn more and more, you also learn something you don't get from just practicing and it's _how to finish a piece_ and everything in between. Stay motivated! 💖

Yeah even though it might not be a masterpiece, atleast you’ve finished it and can be proud of yourself for pushing through, it’s motivating for me meanwhile doing a lot of practicing on page is when actually practicing

I started with anime as well, when I was a kid I just copied photos of the characters, but after a few years of doing that I realized that art to me was just something I could "show off", it wasn't a real passion. But when I was 17 I wen't to my first art class (teacher was Glenn Vilppu) and that class taught me how to appreciate art and what art really means. Since then I've been drawing every single day (1-13 pages a day), studying the Masters, anatomy, and the principles of art and I can say I've improved drastically and I found a passion that is stronger than I could ever imagine. You could say I am completely infatuated with everything art. By the way I like the colors in your piece. :3

MyArtJourney Any advice for improvement for beginners? Like whst should we learn first? What's the most important thing to learn that I can apply to anything?
@ColoredMud
@ColoredMud 7 жыл бұрын
Cherry Wabbit Cherry Wabbit Draw from life and if you haven't yet, learn the basics. I underestimated how important that was when I first began. And something you can apply to everything is a certain technique, that's starting with the movement of the thing you're drawing (gesture) and slowly building it up adding form until it's done. One thing I always used to do was start with the eyes and that ended up making my drawings really stiff, but if you start with the movement and then draw out everything at once (getting the big forms and going to smaller and smaller details) your drawing will be much more coherent and free. Another thing, studying from the Great Masters such as Leonardo da Vinci, Dürer, Rembrandt ect. is always a good idea. As for KZbin channels that aid in my drawing I go to, Proko, Fine Art Academy, Michael Clarida, Vilppu Store, Alphonzo Dun, Art Mentors, and Glenn Vilppu. All these channels help me to grow in my skills. :)

i just wanna say you inspire me so much, last night i was just re watching your 30 days of art series while drawing. i ordered prisma colours for the first time two days ago and they arrived yesterday. i just wanna thank you so much. i recently took art for my gcse's (i turned 13 recently btw) and i want to be like you when i grow up. i think when i'm older i will experiment with oil paints since they seem beautiful and the way you build up the gradual colour and shapes. i just want to thank you. so so much. i love you and you are truly a blessing to this world.

Ted-ed pretty recently released a video in how to practice efficiently on pretty much anything, and the method includes art. It shows through evidence, experiments, and science that to get better at a skill, you simply need to *think* about doing it. Like imagine yourself drawing something but not actually drawing. I know it sounds crazy but it actually works, they did a real experiment that showed results. I do this a lot when I am not able to draw.

Long time lurker here, just wanted to say, although every painting you make is beautiful, this one stands out so much to me. those colors are on point. I didn't think you could improve since you're pretty much at the top of your game, but since you probably don't notice your own progress: Yes, you are getting noticeably better.

Hi Happy, your studio sessions are always so inspiring and encouraging. Thank you so much. I am not artistically trained so all I do is based on my hobby. I make myself learn along the way with video tutorials like yours and they have been so helpful. Sometimes I feel that my visual impairment is limiting me in the things I can do. But often, I get encouragement from my friends and family. And I have started making more art and art related videos. I feel that I am now so much more confident in the things I do. Thank you so much! :)

your the first artist that I know of who says to not trace others artwork to practice drawing. I used to trace a lot but my work never looked like mine when I did that so I stopped. I wasted a full year tracing but never again will I trace another's art work. and I was wondering when are you going to do another art and chat?? I love art and chat. I love listening to you ramble while I'm busy at work on my own drawings. I love your art so much. keep on keeping on!!!!

I LOVE this painting sooooo much!!! It may be my all time favorite of yours. I can't quite pinpoint exactly what it is, possibly the cool dark vibe, and the skeletal structure of the face. To me this figure could represent the link between life and death, or even serve as a portal between the two. I just love it!! It's so beautiful and intriguing.

I am not a pro, but my art isnt extreamly realistic, but i am improved a lot in a year, i started by tracing and i learnt much more than if i didnt trace, its not about tracing its about our mind if we are posing to learn or just mug up ! So you know everyones different, we all use various methods for developing our art in different way . THATS y we cant say tracing is bad completely, but i completely agree with what you say about copying art and not actually learning from it ! Thankyou so much HAPPY D.ARTIST , you are the inspiration for all of us.❤❤❤❤always here to support.

I used to just copy or trace over my favorite cartoons too. And now ive started to take drawing seriously and its so annoying. I feel like im stuck in this phase and i see no improvement in my art. I've decided to practice the basics and draw more still life before I do portraits. And what do you think about the idea that we should learn to draw a realistically before we stylize our art? I never learned to draw realistically. It would be great if you could make video on that. Explaining were to start if you want to improve your art.

I really think you are so sweet to give the same advices over and over and over again. Seriously, what's with kids and youngsters these days? "How do I improve my art?" Well, the same way every (really, EVERY) other artist did: Use your brain! And your eyes. Take a look at your art, find the flaws, find out how you can eradicate them and/or improve what you're bad at, get yourself some learning materials (on youtube, if you want to, but I'd recommend books. Never hurts to freshen up your knowledge now and then), learn the theory, and then: practice, practice, PRACTICE! You wanna learn anatomy? There are tons of amazing learning books about it, about the skeletton, bones, muscles, joints, proportions, etc. Read it, and then go drawing from real life, be it real people or statues or photos, and also try to apply your theoretical knowledge without reference. THAT is how you improve. Boring? Yes. No fun? Yes. Takes forever? Yes. If art is your passion, you won't have to force yourself, because you WANT to do that to improve. If it's just a hobby or for fun, than just keep on doing what you like to do, but don't expect great improvements at your weak points if you draw only for fun and what you like all the time, even after many years. And if someone wants to get offended or triggered by this post: Sorry, not sorry. I'm not american to sugarcoat every letter I write for you to feel better. I'm german and we call things by their names. Just saying.

I love your paintings so much! Although, i do think copying and tracing are good tools for beginners as long as they arent claiming it's their own work. I feel like tracing a line drawing of something like a realistic face can teach really important techniques about where to place shadows and values as there is already a reference for them. I think starting to draw/paint can be very intimidating so working from a reference/copying the reference can be like a singer doing a cover of someones song.. it can give that person the experience of a musicians vocal technique as well as teach song structure before they start writing they're own melody and lyrics.. I totally get that it'd be frustrating for artists to have their work copied but i dont think there's any harm in someone admiring your work so much that it inspires them to recreate it. I think the issue lies with fraudulent recreations or claiming as their own design on social media

Great video. I think there is SOME merit, however, in tracing, IF you are studying the form. Maybe you're trying to understand a certain style, and trying to figure out how to incorporate something into your work. I certainly do think drawing it freehand will help you more, or maybe you're just trying to understand certain shapes, but it's not an invalid way of doing some things. You could do an exercise of breaking down the shapes, and it can be a good technique for just understanding things in general. Everyone is different. But learning different styles, and copying them can help you develop and grow IF you're actually studying while you are creating. Also, a lot of people begin by tracing, and it's what pushes them to become artists because they end up realizing that tracing alone won't make you a good artist. I would also like to say one of the most important things you can do while practicing is to study, and learn while you are practicing. It's not enough to just read; you must understand what you are DOING, so that when your references are taken away, you have a building block to create from. You should learn while you practice; that's more important than just a set amount of hours---it's how much you're learning during the process that will equal the result.

I'm a lover of all things art. I do performance art, makeup, fashion design and visual arts. I love painting and drawing-specifically portraits. I love realism and photorealistic portraits which I have focussed on since I was around 11 (I'm 17 now) and I miss the artistry but I've been struggling with inspiration for the past 6 months or so. How do you stay inspired?

Actually doing master studies are supposed to be very helpful in learning composition and color theory. Especially if one wishes to learn the techniques of the masters of the past.

See I did pencil drawings of people for two years in pencil and I practiced my still life in graphite and such but I don't think I mastered it.. I'm still doing pencil drawings of course but I started using oils, first black and white for a few moths and now colour.. Idk if I'm ready.. Would there be a way for me to show you my art and you tell me what I need to improve on and focus on?
