With only a few weeks left to December I can't help but miss the amazing Christmas times I had in Germany last year as an exchange student. The spirit really is something different from what we have at home in Sweden. For one, many of my German friends started thinking about Christmas in already in September :)

Loved all your selections but we would have picked Nurenburg as #1. On the day after Thanksgiving, the opening ceremony for all German Christmas markets begins in Nurenburg with the Golden Raush Angel. Something not to be missed. We also loved Regensburg. Loved all your small town selections. We were planning on going on a Christmas River Cruise this year which would have included Colene which we had visited once before but would have been great to see it again during Christmas. This list is strangely geared toward the west of western Germany. What about the north? Lübeck is stunning at Christmas. Wismar? Bremen? Hamburg? Berlin has some great markets (some of them only pop up for one weekend), Potsdam, too! Apart from Dresden, you forgot the East entirely. The Iron Ore mountain range region´s whole economy is based on Christmas and the traditional crafts from there.

How nostalgic I have become about pre-covid Christmas times where we all could go and visit Christmas markets anywhere around the globe without being afraid of getting infected or having the necessity to wearing protective masks😭 Missing Germany too. Do it! Christmas in Germany is the best. I lived there from 2004 to 2017. Usually the bigger markets start in the last week or two of November and end 23 December. The smaller cities and towns usually have shorter markets, some as short as only one weekend. The Christmas markets I have been to include Wiesbaden (my favorite but I am biased since that was my home for 12+ years), Mainz, Frankfurt am Main, Rüdesheim am Rhein, Idstein (very cute but short), Wiesbaden-Naurod (Wiesbaden suburb where I actually lived- it only lasts one weekend)...I can't recall any others.

Loved your video but you missed some of the best from my point of view. If you loved Dresden you will also love Leipzig Christmas Market. From there you should check out "Quedlinburg's Advent in den Höfen", the Christmas Market in Chemnitz, and of course one at least in the Ore Mountains which is known as the Christmas Wonderland in Germany. A must-see is Seiffen where traditional handmade christmas decorations are made. In this area, you should visit Schwarzenberg or Annaberg-Buchholz where there is a traditional miners parade on the Advent Sundays take place. Also don't miss out the opportunity to take place in a traditional "Mettenschicht" - it is Ore Mountain christmas magic.

My very favorite market was in the small village of Sankt Wendel, only half an hour from where we lived in the Kaiserslautern area. It had a regular market along with a medieval market. It was quaint, cozy, and had a great selection of all kinds of things. The only con is that it’s only open for one or two weekends, can’t remember for sure.

Try to visit Trier next year, like Aachen it's framed by a great cathedral and it's a lovely city with lots of (roman) history. It's one of the loveliest Christmas markets I've visited. And from there it's not too far to Bernkastel, a lovely oldy worldy (albeit small) town next to the river.

@@HappytoWander It`s a "Nice one though"??? ARE you kidding??? It´s the world`s most famous one and the most important in Germany, also historically. There, the German Christmas Market Season is opened every year with a stunning historical event, "the appearance of the Nuremberger Christkindl with her annual speech" (woman dressed up in a stunning angel`s costume) in the historical scenery of the town of Nürnberg. Also the world`s most famous(by far) Lebkuchen comes from there, German Christmas is not the same without them, they are send in the whole world for Christmas. It`s like making a video about the Skyscrapers in New York, but then not even showing the Chrysler Building for some seconds! "Nice one though"...huh ! That`s simply ridiculous!

There are some very good Christmas markets (Weihnachtsmarkt) in Braunschweig, Wolfenbuettel, Goslar, Wernigerode, Hannover, Bremen and lots more. I love Germany at Christmas, they really have the Christmas Spirit.

As a professional Christmas Market organiser, I enjoyed your video. Like you, I travel all over Europe visiting Christmas markets every year. There is nothing better to revive the thrill of Christmas just like when you were a child. You have shown lots of gorgeous photos of the markets you have been to, and it’s true most of them are adorably pretty. But can I urge your followers to also consider the quality and ethics of what is being sold in some of these chalets. For example, in Bavaria they have a century old tradition of making exquisitely beautiful, wooden Christmas tree decorations from Erzgebirge region, but sadly many Christmas markets are now full of cheap copies of these old crafts imported from China putting the real craftspeople out of business. Another issue is that in some towns, it’s a handful of business people who monopolise all the chalets. Nuremberg, for example has lots of its chalets run by the same person.... pushing out all the smaller independent businesses. Also, the more Christmas markets you visit in Germany the more you realise 80% of them are all selling the same mass produced stuff. It’s sometimes the smallest, more rural ones that sell the nicest, the most unique, the most German and the most genuinely artisan things. Other Christmas markets I have visited are Bamberg, Wurzburg, Hannover, Hamburg and Nuremberg all of which I wouldn’t return to. Rothenberg-an-der Tauber on the Medieval Romantic Route is chocolate box pretty as a town at Christmas and worth a visit though the Christmas Market isn’t that special. Of the big towns Munich so far is my favourite and the one I’d recommend first. There are more than just 3 markets there if you count the Crib Market and the airport market too! You can also go from there by train or Flixbus to Innsbruck or Salzburg in just over 2 hours, where there are Austrian Christmas markets to visit too. ( I don’t rate Innsbruck CM that greatly though). If you want to see the tiniest Christmas Market ever, go to Fulpmes, the last stop on a tram ride up into the mountains beyond Innsbruck. There you will find a teeny weeny but very charming Christmas market if 10 lovingly constructed and decorated chalets where all the locals congregate every evening. Just delightful. I hope this might help some of your followers.

Well stated, I travelled to Copenhagen last year for Christmas and while I loved Copenhagen and all their Christmas Markets' decor, the gifts were for the most part , I would say 90%, made in china and the same gifts at each market. This for me was very disappointing as I was hoping to find some handmade Christmas gifts by local artists. I was lucky to find a vendor from Russia that sold small wooden Christmas trees, that were wonderful. I agree. I believe there should be strict rules on what the vendors can sell. At least the majority of their markets crafts should be stuff sold by locals, to support the local communities, and keep traditional crafts alive.

@@luvnailz Hello Jessica, I think that due to Covid, no Christmas Markets are certain at present, be it in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic or even England. Normally they would have been announced months ago, but they seem to all be put on hold for now. In normal times, the dates would have been announced months ago. Regrettably nothing is certain this year, yet again. If you want to ask again nearer November, I'll try to help advize.

Good job producing and narrating, but I’ve traveled all over the world for Christmas markets, and Nuremberg is rightly considered the best in the world. And another that often makes the list is Rothenburg. Big oversight to not have either in the top 10.
