Thank you for your detailed steps for fixing the rear bumper. May I ask, when hit by car behind causing damage to rear bumper, the rear protective bar covered by the bumper will in avoidable be damaged which required replacement as well. Can we fix it easily by ourselves too?

Nice seems simpler than rxiected 2 questions was it just 1 light you removed ? And im.guessing the bumpers loke mone woth reverse sensirs youd need to be careful rekoving not to pull kn cables right ty

fast Fwd 1-yr later and we were rear ended in a chain reaction crash. the lower black portion took damage from the other person's front plate 😣. w/o a front plate, damage would have been minimal; however, the two bolts dug through the plastic. need to check the rear crash bar. luckily, no airbags deployed. I wrench happiest when nothing breaks, even the plastic clips, when disassembling

there should be access panels behind the rear tire (held by plastic clips or possibly concealed by the rear mud guards) and from underneath where he was removing the two Philips head screws...

Cake Eater I just took the bumper cover off to remove the dent - didn't actually buy a replacement bumper.

happywrenching hi i have a similar dent on my cx 5 on that area. Did you use the heat gun directly to the dent front outside or inside?

Gene Kim I just boiled some water and poured it on the inside of the bumper. Let it sit for a minute or so and was then able to push the dent out. With a heat gun, I would still use it on the inside of the bumper.

+Trace' Kester I personally don't have a video but those things are glued on so treat it as you would an emblem. Search for "how to remove car emblem" - there are some good videos on KZbin for that. You will need fishing line, and heat gun (even a hair dryer would probably work).

not painted; all black plastic. however the top section is smooth and the lower section is textured.

Sand with wet or dry 320 grit, clean and dry first, then spray with semi flat black bumper spray from your Wesco Automotive supply store or from an auto parts store.
