My current question is, is this Hapstone a worthy upgrade to a KME? Or do you think the TS Prof K03 big boy would be a better choice? Thanks for all the videos.
@GunnysSharptalk3 жыл бұрын
I prefer the TSPROF because it’s more sturdy and I have a dedicated sharpening area. I like the Hapstone though. I do wish the guide rod was more robust, but after I get some sharpening’s with the different models I will be able to give you a better assessment
@joshevans34523 жыл бұрын
It really depends. The Tsprof is the better machine but, in the US, it costs nearly twice as much. The R2 v2 does everything that the Tsprof does, it just isn't as overbuilt. I bought mine a month ago when the k3 was having availability issues. I have not found it lacking in any way. I don't use a whole lot of pressure so the thickness of the guide rod is not an issue at all. I also come from freehand and it is a revalation. It really comes down to how much you want to spend and what level of functionality and ohh factor you want. I think the R2 v2 is the sweetspot but the K3 is great if you want to drop the cash

I love my KME. I get great results on it but it is limited to about a 6" blade for the most part. I've been eyeing the Hapstone systems for their modular platform and from what I see it can handle a 12" blade pretty easy
@GunnysSharptalk3 жыл бұрын
Yes it should be able to. I hopefully will be able to do some sharpening with it this weekend and can do a review video soon

I’ve heard the hapstone guide arm is loud with the bearings causing the noise. I mostly sharpen pocket knives

I bought the Hapstone M3 then wanted a clamp based system and so I bought the R2 module and the Central Y clamp. However, I’m finding there is just to much flex with this setup. I’d hate to start over by purchasing a TSPROF blitz360. Can you compare the Central Y clamp to the two small whole milled side clamps that comes with the “Lite” version. I’m thinking those will be more sturdy and less flex?

How well can you sharpen a fillet knife with this system?

I bought the V8 model with the "edge pro holder". If a tutorial could be done on how to get a big knife (like a fixed blade or a chef knife) to sit on the sharpener so the edge is evenly forward or at least as close to evenly forward, that would be greatly appreciated. A comparison of the different types of holders would be great as well. (In my experience, whenever I place the knife on the holder, it is always a challenging game of balancing the knife far back enough so it won't tip over when I add too much pressure accidentally, and most of the time, the tips of the knife rest uncomfortably close to one of the extended holders, and I am afraid to take material off of it.)

As soon as I get a chance I will cover that. No problem

Hey gunny I’m in a predicament, I’m looking for some new stones, I’m torn between what is better the matrix stones or the venev series with the ocb finishing stones. I need some 6 in hers because the 4 inch stones ain’t cutting it for my hapstone r2. I have the venev series in 4 inch stones but is it worth spending 364$ for matrix 6 inch stones or are venev & edge pro pretty much the same. I always appreciate your help.
@GunnysSharptalk3 жыл бұрын
I personally would stick with the Venev. The Venev leaves a better cutting edge
@davidlarue24923 жыл бұрын
@@GunnysSharptalk yeah that’s what I ended up doing, looking at the chart on gritomatic made me come to the conclusion that the venev stones do the same thing, probably a little better and for a much better price. Thanks gunny.
@GunnysSharptalk3 жыл бұрын
The Diamond Matrix remove scratches better, but the Venev leaves a better more aggressive edge
@GunnysSharptalk3 жыл бұрын
I use the Diamond Matrix 4K right before my Venev 1,200 which is more like and 8K stone. The 4K really helps to remove the scratches before the 1,200. But if I had to choose one or the other I would choose the Venev
@davidlarue24923 жыл бұрын
@@GunnysSharptalk do you use the 25% or 100% with the ocb finishing stones. I actually have both but having trouble trying the better combo. I know 25% supposed to leave a better finish but sometimes the 100% stones look like they leave a better finish.

I’d love to know pros and cons of clamp system. I have an edge pro Apex with the magnet upgrade. The hapstone has the one version with magnets and the clamp. Never used a clamp system. Thanks !

The table takes a little larger learning curve and the blade can easily move. I find the table is more versatile, but takes a little more skill to be as precise. For me it was easier to transition from freehand to learn guided systems by using the EP Apex first.

@@bassh0le883 Thanks for replying. I've used my I Phone compass/inclinometer for other projects but I like the short footprint & magnetic base of the angle cubes for attaching to the sharpener & guide rod/stone holder & table saw blades. The one I got from Gritomatic when I bought a Blitz 360 has tiny hard to press buttons that makes it awkward to hold still while zeroing like you mentioned. I'll take a look on amazon. Cheers.
