It's perfectly normal for us Filipinas to be barefoot when guests around were wearing shoes. Just wanted to be comfortable ourselves and also comfortable for visitors and not restrict people to removing shoes or hat when visiting a restaurant. It's the beautiful nature of being yourself without obligations. Our bare feet are always exposed and we are immune to removing shoes indoors as we got use to being barefoot to visitors wearing shoes and our toes have touched their shoes countless times!! :)) Hope you have a great trip here Harald!!!

Kristopher Haas in Philippines it’s like a no obligations thing or rule that people have to follow just have to maintain proper manners and respect would be enough. Then when they have kids (in this case your friend), they teach their kids that their motherland is not good. They will tell their kids all the negative things about their motherland. It understandable then that the kids will take it from their parents and also dislike or show no interest from where their parents have come from. Just let him be. He is not ready to face his past.
