I just visited the top of Vidigal but I got there by mototaxi (I never entered inside of it like he did 😆).. there's some random raves and partys out on the top of Vidigal.. few years ago it was fully packed with foreigners, now I don't know.. depends on if the favela is under a war with 2 factions or not.. some years it stays cool and war pauses, so you better ask a local before going up.

Nice video! I live in Brazil from 2002-2009 and I attended the American school called EARJ which faces Rocinha. It was quite dangerous when I lived there, we would be running outside during PE classes and gun shots would go off and we would have ot go back inside. The classroom windows were bulletproof because they faced the favela. One time we had to stay home for 2 weeks because of a big drug war going on. We even had a "keep the peace program" between the school and the people of Rocinha where in exchange for some safety, we would give them rice and beans if their kids were enrolled in school and we offered craft workshops and selling opportunities for the adults. You had a wonderful guide but im glad you are safe!

As an American/Brazilian, I can really appreciate these videos! I haven't been to Brazil in 13 years, but when I was younger I would go there for the summer and spend time with my family. They don't live in favelas, but I do have a memory of my uncle taking me to someones house so he could buy a bird (he was really into collecting birds). It's funny because at the time, I knew about favelas and what they were, but for some reason I didn't realize I was in one! I never felt in danger or scared granted I was with my uncle and people he knew. The only thing they were scared of was the bird vendors giant Pit Bull! 🤣🤣. Man, I really do need to make my way back to Brazil. Such beautiful culture, amazing people, and breath taking scenery! Over the years, I've picked up hiking as a hobby, so seeing some of the trails they hiked through and the views they got to see was inspiring! I can't wait to go back! At some points in the video I could smell the sewage mixed with gasoline from the cars and motorcycles! As weird as it sounds, that's somewhat comforting to me 😁.

Bro, this series of vlogs in Rio were just the best for real (I'm from São Paulo tho)! I'm always happy to see people demystifying favelas as evil places. Next time you come to brazil, i hope you bring Mr. Bald w you hahaha he'd be perfect for these kinds of trips. Abraço!

Dunno what's more scary: Harald sitting on cliffs edge or Harald walking down favela streets with camera? P.S. Just watching guys walking up and down makes my leg muscles hurt 🤣

Well the punishment for stealing inside favelas are death or i believe if it's your first time stealing they usually ask you to decide if wanna get shot on the leg or hands

It’s amazing how beautiful it is in the favelas of rio the views are unbeatable. It’s also very interesting how the wealth is down by the water and people struggle up on the hills where as in North America the houses on the hill are the wealthiest.
@jishukinkarmedhi54373 жыл бұрын
It's due to the inconvenience of living on the hills. It takes daily trekking to go to anywhere. Not helpful for old people or someone on wheelchair to climb the steps. Rain makes the steps treacherous and slippery. Difficult to carry and move large furniture uphill. Less public transport options. Not as many stores available as down below etc.

Actually there are some hills nearby Rocinha that are full of rich people, there is a hill inside Leblon which hosts the most expensive mansions in Brazil, it's called Jardim Pernambuco. Houses there go up to 100 million dollars

One thing I admire about Brazilians is that doesn’t matter the problems, issues, corruption, bad life conditions, having to grind really hard to survive, they never lose the smile and positive attitude. Always joking and laughing. And this coming from a Brazilian as well. I’ve visited Europe and was surprised to see how much some people complain about life and have negative perspective even having great opportunities.

I've watched this video when it was posted 6mins ago, last night here in Philippines. i felt like i was traveling with you mr. Harald. With henry, digao and the man from the barber shop.sorry i forgot his name 😊.. I was really amazed on what you did to this video going to the alleys of the favelas, you are really brave doing so.hearing all the stories and seeing all the bullet holes on the streets. I am really idolizing you. I felt so happy when you saw the red horse drink from the brave lady's bar and you mention that it was a popular beer in the Philippines. Hope i would become like you. Exploring the world, experiencing all cultures, trying different kinds of food. Good luck to you, and God will keep you safe from all your travels. Thank you for being such a funny man too. Hope that (Harald approves!) this comment. Your no. 1 fan in the Philippines... Rap 🤗
