I'm a fan of staying in Akasaka. There's enough within walking distance between it and nearby Roppongi if you want to eat or drink near your hotel, there's the Akasaka-Mitsuke Station nearby that can you get you to Shibuya, Shinkjuku or Tokyo Station in less than 15 minutes without changing lines, but it's relatively quiet at night. But I'm too old for partying late at night so I could be biased. :)

Thanks for this great video. I totally agree with you, Shinjuku is the best place for me to stay in Tokyo. I am not a nightlife person, but I enjoy the vibe, the many restaurants and bars, shops, conbinis and the great acess to public transport (mostly train and subway, but also bus, with the Express Bus Terminal). Also, so many attractions are reachable without having to travel for ages. I usually stay in Nishi Shinjuku, because its quiet, but just a 10 minutes walk away from the action and from Shinjuku station. The last time I was in Tokyo, I also stayed in Kabuchiko, on the border to Korea town, and that was also great (I love Korean food, and I dont find the red light discrict unsafe (as a woman)).

I have been in Tokyo 7 times. At the beginning I was staying in Shinjuku area, then I realized that the key is to stay close to the Yamanote line and explore the city from there. My favorite locations are Gotanda and Tamachi. Lately I prefer Tamachi area since it is quiet and the hotels are not that expensive. Yamanote and Mita station are very close to the hotels in that area. Next time I will try to stay close to the Kanda area which also offers good hotels at reasonable prices. I agree that Agoda is one of the best site to get good deals in Japanese hotels. Thanks for sharing!

Shinjuku is very rundown and extremely busy, don't stay there unless you're really into nightlife. Asakusa is a very nice area, with cheap accomodation and plenty of tourist attractions around. The stretch between Shimbashi and Yurakucho is great in terms of good hotels and plenty of shops and restaurants. You also have the Yamamote Line at your doorstep, and will be only minutes away from Tokyo Station, Akihabara, etc. Ueno, meh, it's not the nicest place in Tokyo and a bit detached from the central areas. I enjoy staying in Odabia, although hotel options are a bit limited (Grand Nikko is my favourite). You spend the day in Tokyo, enjoying the hustle and bustle, and retreat to this "resort-style" man-made island in the evening with great views of central Tokyo. Odaiba also offers 3 major shopping malls with plenty of restaurants and even a nice little beach.

I wholeheartedly agree with your #1. Shinjuku is the only place that we stay in Tokyo. In addition to being a major transportation hub, Shinjuku has all the shopping, restaurants, and entertainment you could want. The east side is bustling and great for nightlife, and the west and south sides are more quiet and relaxed. We really like Takashimaya (especially) and Isetan with their depachikas and numerous restaurants on the upper floors. Venturing out of Shinjuku to visit different places during the day is fun, but the best part is that you always return to Shinjuku.

Nice area to spend a day, nightlife is midrange, restaurants not as plentiful as other areas. Spent one night near Tokyo Station for the Shinkansen convenience. I could be wrong but nightlife and restaurant options (outside of station) were limited. Shinjuku was excellent, everything that was mentioned. I would also put Akasaka as some people have said on the list, although there aren't too many hotels/airbnbs in that area. The other downside is that this area is a bit expensive as well, around $90-120/night My reasons are: 1. You're close to Tameikie Sanno Station, which is conjoined with Kokkaigijidomae station. So you have access to both the Ginza line and Marunouchi line. Also the Akasaka station if you plan to transfer into Shibuya. Ikebukuro is a bit farther to get to from there. Roppongi is within walking distance. 2. Lots of restaurants (chains and local ones) in the downtown area next to the Tokyo Broadcasting (TBS) HQ. Lots of bars as well in that area. Roppongi is nearby if you're into clubs. 3. To get back to Narita Airport, just take the limousine bus from the ANA intercontinental. No need to deal with trains. 4. If SHTF or anything bad happens, all the consulates/embassies are in the area.

I stayed in Akihabara while I was in Tokyo. And everything is great. I am considering staying there again. The only thing that bothers me is the lack of night activities. The Coco curry was open until 4 am. Same for the crapes in the middle of Akihabara. In 2023, however, the Coco curry closed at 10 pm, I think.. Your videos are very informative but would be infinitely better if you showed each of these on a map

I enjoyed being in Kita Senju away from the hecticness. The downfall was a longer train ride into shinjuku/Roppongi but closer to Akihabara

Stayed in Shinjuku and Ueno my first trip.. Thinking about Shimbashi this upcoming trip.. puts Ginza, Tokyo Station, Tokyo Tower, and Roppongi in walking range.. good metro access and also convienent for Haneda Airport.. Loved the restautarants under the rails.

Traveling to Japan ending December. What's the best place to stay for a family of 5? I have a 10, 14 and 17 year old along with my husband and I. Thanks in advance!

Am I crazy or is 15m walking distance not that far? sure if you have to lug around your luggage it's pain, but if you're just going light day to day then 15 minutes isn't that bad imo

I always stay near Shinjuku station. There are actually cheap hotels there if you look. (not love hotels)

Yup! Famous area in Tokyo. Famous for all the underground music, which is why the anime takes place in that area. Check it out when you're here in Tokyo!

Hi! Im going to Japan with a friend in july. We are both first timers there in our 30s. Is shibuya travel friendly for first timers? Is it a good location to be for tourists?

Hi there! Really enjoyed your video about Tokyo. I'm currently planning to stay in the Shinbashi minato - ku area. Could you let me know your opinion on this choice? Also, I'm curious to know if it's conveniently located near train stations and popular lookout spots. Thanks!

Shimbashi isn't a bad spot. As long as you're near the Yamanote line, you won't too far from anything really.

Hello. Is there a hotel you recommend in Shinjuku? Thank you.

I don't stay in enough hotels to give you enough good recommendations. Just use a booking app to find a fair priced hotel with good reviews you won't get wrong there!

What would be considered a bad hotel or room to stay in Japan because in the US it can be horrific but can you really stay at a bad place in Japan and what is cheapest room you can get like what is the bottom also do they have bedbugs in Japan or is just mold that can be the main problem. Thanks for the breakdown
@harblife Жыл бұрын
You can definitely find yourself in a bad hotel room in Japan. It is pretty similar to choosing a run down hotel in the states. But I would say it is less likely. If you follow my advice on booking . com website, you won't ever run into a bad room!

I just realised I booked a hotel in Shibuya during Halloween 😲 QUESTION: We are a couple in their 40s and 50s, we have an event in Minato City and aim to explore Tokyo for the rest of the week. Is booking hotel in Shibuya a mistake.... I am having a really bad headache trying to decide on a place to stay 😵💫 Thank you!
@harblife Жыл бұрын
I think Shibuya would be ok even for halloween. However, just make sure you stay clear of the main street during Halloween and you'll be fine!

Hello! Great video, I’m looking at currently booking a Airbnb located near the Monzen-nakacho station. How’s the area ? It would be my first time in Japan, is this a good option or should I look into booking a hotel instead ? Thank you!

Very far removed from everything. Do not recommend staying there.

Hello, we will be visiting Japan for the first time and consider staying for a week in Tokyo. We spent our weekends searching for affordable hotels near the Yamanote line however we failed to find hotels. There are 2 hotels we found within our budget but not within the Tokyo station, Tobu Hotel Levant Tokyo and APA (Akasuka Kuramae Ekimae). With your great knowledge of Tokyo, which hotel do you think is better for us to book. We thank you for very informative video.

Hi! I'm getting a headache from all this research on hotels! My boyfriend and I are spending 4 days in Midsouji area in Osaka and then 4 days in Tokyo. Was planning on ueno because we are staying during halloween and we heard that it is absolutely crazy in Shibuya area. We are not familiar with train systems so I thought Shinjuku would be too stressful. We can't legally participate in nightlife where we live so would like to try it out in Japan but not big drinkers. What is your experience with halloween? I heard it is hard to get into restaurants and bars and it is crazy for the whole weekend leading up to it.
@harblife Жыл бұрын
Not too hard to get into bars and restaurants on Halloween ... as long as you're not in the Shinjuku or Shibuya area. Could hang out in a bar outside of that area at the beginning and then make your way to the halloween area! Let me know if you have more questions!
