I am on my second HF 125 welder, I used the first one for years without a single problem, then I broke the cardinal sin of tool ownership, I loaned it to my neighbor to work on his truck, when he brought it back it was completely dead. I ran test on cord to see if cord was damaged but nothing. I don’t know what he did but he denied breaking it. I taught my two grandsons how to weld with it without a problem. I replaced it and nobody touched it or my stick welder!.....or my law mower!

Yeah they suck but they do work. Been using one for years. I prefer the 170 amp or the INVERTER dc output welders for most of what I do though. But they're not 90 bucks

I have the HF welder. That small Century one looks really nice. You can even tell by the sound when welding that it’s making a better weld. Didn’t even know that was available at HD. If I was buying one now I would definitely do the Century one.
@InvincibleExtremes6 жыл бұрын
Monte Stu yup, I'm pretty happy with it. DC makes for a way better weld. The harbor freight 170 amp model is DC and way better than the 125/90 amp A.C. model... but it's 4 times as heavy as the century and requires a 240v outlet. Not something you can throw in your datsun with a cheap generator....

I'm glad I found this video again. I've been doing a lot of stick and tig in a machine shop, and almost forgot about something small. I think I'm going to get my daughter one of those little century welders to learn on. She's 9, so it seems like a light wirefeed with no gas would be the easiest for her to get started with.

And itll be great for portable welding for odds and ends down the road too.

@@InvincibleExtremes Yeah, it occurred to me that it'd be nice to have a little welder for those quick 'broken trailer in the home depot parking lot' jobs that I can run off my little Honda inverter generator instead of putting time on the engine drive. I have a little stick machine that'll run on a clean generator, but it draws just a *little* too much to run it off the Honda and still get decent welds. I use it on small jobs at people's houses who don't have 220, though, and it's great for trailers, heavy grills, storage racks, and the like. It's always nice to have a new way of making money. That's one of the reasons I'm also planning on getting her a little Cut50DP plasma cutter, so she can start cutting her own parts for some projects without me needing to do it for her with the angle grinder or chop saw. Funny thing is, she really wants to learn tig, but I think flux core would be less frustrating for her. I don't think even a #9 torch is small enough to fit her hand comfortably yet.

I ended up buying this welder and let me tell you, this is a 1,000 times better and easier than my 90 amp harbor freight flux welder. The key is absolutely the dc output vs the harbor freight ac output. I wish I had this earlier and I will never use my harbor freight welder again! The only thing I did to my century welder is replace the ground clamp with a better one. Thanks for the review

I like to always have a welder with me in my truck. I’ve carried the Harbor Freight with me for a while now, but I just bought the Century FC-90 at a pawn shop for $103 for its size, weight, strap, and most importantly, it’s voltage knob.
@InvincibleExtremes5 жыл бұрын
That's a deal. They're great welders because of the DC output and that adjustment knob
@quadflopper10125 жыл бұрын
they get the 125 amp number from when the HF welder is maxed out, you put an AC clamp meter on the output wire feed cable while running 0.35 wire with the wire speed set to maximum and the amperage will momentarily peak at 125 amps or more before settling back down to around 110 amps continuous.....
@InvincibleExtremes5 жыл бұрын
Yup, both welders are roughly around 90 amps. Only real difference is the output being dc or ac.

I could of used that set up last week when my son broke a track rod and we dragged the car 18 miles without steering. I like the DC one seems to be better. All the best to you and yours.
@InvincibleExtremes6 жыл бұрын
Tim the spannerman thanks. Yeah, the power is the same, both are 90 amps on high setting, but the DC machine is just so much cleaner and can be turned down to 30 amps for sheet metal work. The A.C. machine gets tricky with rust repair because it's a 60 amp low setting, and tends to burn through on the lighter stuff.
@codydayton35735 жыл бұрын
DC is mostly recommended for innershield anyway . AC is just a cheaper machine to produce . you will never find a code or a field welder useing AC with innershield . And if you did he would get ran off . innershield or flux core as you guys call it . we run it DCEN . That means Direct current electrode negative . Those AC machines are a fucking scam . my 225 lincoln ranger genrator can run a wire feed . I mostly run flux or we call innershield .so you connect the leads. you put the positive lead in the negative terminal and you put the negative lead in the positive terminal . that's how you get DCEN. Then you turn the amps over to constant voltage or CV . And weld away . no tricky bull shit while welding and no splatter . always buy the DC machine for innershield . not trying to be a know it all just spreading knowledge.

Carlos Morales I know Right? The feed is junk... But that inverter makes working with it so smooth... Love earning a quick buck with it fixing rust on people's cars. Wire spool is pretty simple. Hold it in one hand with a finger on the lose wire to keep it from becoming a mess. Lock the feed tension down, and hold the spool in one hand while putting the spacer and nut back on.

QQTrick1QQ true. Neither of these cheap welders have a good wire feed mech, but both do ok for the money

the reason the smaller one lays a better weld is because flux core welding is like stick welding, so you actually get better welds with DC rather than AC also look how good that weld looks, thats probably because the wire feed and power are more consistant where the harbor freight welder varies alot in output and even wire speed, clearly the little guy is way way better.
@InvincibleExtremes6 жыл бұрын
thelasthallow that's exactly it my friend. That's also the reason why people modify the cheap A.C. welders with diodes and capacitors to convert them to DC. Honestly if this small inverter welder wasn't on the market I would too.

I usually order from Ebay because I have shipping with Ebay down to a science and you need to know which carrier is being used to ship your mail and packages here. In Presidio Texas there is no local mail carrier. Everything must have a PO Box number unless it is being shipped by UPS, Fedex or DHL in which case you can have it shipped to your home's physical address. No one tells you this here in Presidio (not even postal employees) It took me an entire year and hundreds of dollars in lost packages to figure it out. I found the Century FC90 on Ebay for $199 (free shipping) but this payday I'm ordering the Century FC90 from Home Depot for $169 (free shipping). Your video gave me the information and confidence to spend the money and get my own welder and repair the exhaust myself. I could go to Mexico and have the work done for a fraction of what it would cost here in Presidio and my son and I go to Mexico all the time to the restaurants but many people aren't familiar with the limitations on what you can take to Mexico and what you are allowed to bring back. You can actually cross the boarder with some materials and/or liquids and not be able to bring them back to the United States. Many people in Texas have firearms because of vast open land and wild animals. If you accidently go to the boarder with any type of firearm or ammo you are going to jail. Most likely boarder patrol will believe your story because it happens all the time. They may even shed a tear or two with you but you will go to jail. We use our van for camping and hauling food, water, wood and propane. We take none of these things with us when we cross the boarder. So I'm going to add the money I would spend paying someone else to fix the exhaust to the money I'm using to buy the Century FC90 Welder. Thank you for great videos.

I have both of these machines and that Century FC-90 is a very sweet welding machine. I only bought it to tack together smaller stuff, for finishing with a larger machine but I ended up using the FC-90 a lot more, even on 1/4 plate with great results. Welds hot and clean. Lincoln bought out and now owns Century, so thats about as American as you will find. Internal components are all imported for everything these days, even when the sticker says made in USA. Don't be fooled by mainstream company model names as most all "140" machines are really only rated at 90 amps and 180 machines are really 140 amp machines. Don't believe me, - go read the spec sheets. Creative duty cycle numbers are being manipulated to trick the consumer into thinking a machine is bigger than it really is.

Is there any way to improve the feed mechanisms on these? That being said, it's by far one of the better flux-wire welders on the market. Inverter model for portability? DC negative for Flux-core?
