there is a playlist you need to watch to be sure your DVR is setup - I recommend you confirm uPNP is enable on the DVR, that will cause the DVR to attempt to open the inbound ports on your ISP router, use your phone with wifi turned on to get your phone connected before you try it away from your house, if you can connect over wifi at home, then your DVR is setup correctly - the two main reason for connection failures - a user password that is more than 8 characters, and the inbound ports are not open on your ISP router, if uPNP is enabled and you can't connect, the ports need opened on the ISP router, if you don't know how to do this, you should contact your ISP, the phone does not connect automatically, you need to install the app and scan the QR code to tell your phone what DVR you are trying to connect your phone to, then log into the app - once you scan the QR code, the DVR will be registered in the app and remain there -you should watch the entire playlist for all the settings that need set, and where/how they need set - how long have you had the system? how old it is will tell me if it has the older DVR firmware, or the newer DVR firmware, the new version lists the ports that need opened on your ISP router - give it try and post here how it goes - thanks for subscribing!

I just hooked up my cameras and watched your videos, they are great. I installed the app and after I scan we code and in the app it’s saying connect close do you know what that means?

the two most common causes of connect close - 1: password either not matching or longer than 8 characters - 2: your ISP router not supporting uPNP, the fix fo this is to talk to your ISP have them open inbound ports listed in the network tab, this is commonly called port-mapping or NAT/PAT (network address translation/Port address translation) - assuming of course there is a network cable connecting the NVR to your ISP router and your phone is using wi-fi to connect to your ISP router - this will get the remote option working on local wi-fi before you turn off wi-fi to test real remote viewing over the internet - thanks for subscribing!

@@shawnminarik4936 you reset it in the wizard that comes up after a restart, you can log into the system with a password longer than 8 characters, you just can't use the remote viewing app with a longer password - find the user tab in the wizard and change the password - thanks for subscribing!

I've contacted my ISP and they don't know what port they need to open & the people at Cobra can't tell me either. Do you know what port I could tell them? Thank you.

80 and 9000 are the ports - try uPNP first - there is also a software update that makes the settings easier - I just saw it this weekend, it even lists the ports

Have you had an issue with the RXCamView app recently? It completely stopped working for me recently, and Android says it has a bug.

very strange, I would not expect it to stop working unless the OS changed, or your ISP made changes, I am not familiar with androids, so I don't know how/why the android suddenly decided the program has a bug..... maybe try to re-add your NVR, I am interested in any details you can provide - a good test is to try to use it while your phone is connected to your home ISP, is your system the 1080p or the 4K system? they work the same in terms of remove use, but the 4K has more configuration options - thanks for subscribing!

the cameras give off a little light for night vision, the bugs come in for the light, fog also shows up as snow at night - but not much you can do except mount them under the eve and clean them once in awhile....

Bought this system probably 2019, and just now trying to hook up to my iPhone.. Can't get it to connect on a few different apps. Either says Connect fail or Connect Open. I have set this up on android years ago and it worked, tried again with that same android and won't connect..... need help!

I've left a lot of replies on this topic, read those for more details, but can you get it working from your phone while connected to your home wifi? if not, there is a connectivity issue with the dvr and your wifi router - if you can, the problem is the the isp router, you need to setup port forwarding for tcp 9000, tcp 80 and 443, if you don't know how, call your ISP and they should be able to do it for you - thanks for subscribing

@@snapwholeharborfreightreviews After speaking with someone, it seems like the issue might be compatibility? So I've got internet via my landlord coming into my apartment via wifi. It's 5G, and I connected the DVR to a wifi extender which is 2.4G. Weird because the same exact setup worked before on my android, only it was a few years ago. But now can't get it to connect. If you have any advice I'd appreciate it, I"ve read through all the comments... I keep getting connect fail, connect open, or just connecting in perpetuity... Using my iPhone 15

the supports audio in/out, and has the RCA connections to connect microphones and speakers, but do not provide the microphones or speakers(you can connect the speaker out to a TV sound input, so if you want to listen to sound from the camera you'll have to buy microphones to mount on the camera, and run a cable back to the DVR, I purchase a microphone to do a demo on that, but have not completed it yet - I just purchased the 4K NVR system from HF, nd have started posting the videos, posted 2 already, but 3-4 more coming - thanks for subscribing

IE is obsolete, but it should still work with the windows 10 version - I tried out IE when I first got the system, but the interface is so bad, I never used it again, I'll revisit it and post here if I make any progress - thanks for subscribing!

@@DrBlingDaddy I upgraded one of my machines to windows 11, no IE at all, a little surprised its finally gone - an idea that I have not tried but might work - is to install a MS virtual machine - I've used it on windows 7, the virtual machine will run under windows and provide a platform to run IE 11 - a kludge at best.....

if you can watch the video over wifi, you are 99% of the way there, all that is left is opening up the inbound ports on your ISP router, in the network config of the system, get the IP address the system is using, and make sure uPNP is enabled, this will auto open the ports on the ISP router, if your ISP router supports uPNP, if not you can call your ISP ask ask them to open those ports on the router, they will need the IP address of the system to open ports 80, 9000, 554, 443 from the internet to the video system, if uPNP is off and you turn it on, test again before calling your ISP - make sure you have the 1080p system or the 4K system, HF still sells both, the 4K system is newer and allows more uPNP options, but both systems work the same, and the missing piece is the inbound ports thru your ISP router - thanks for subscribing!

@@snapwholeharborfreightreviews okay. I can view with Wi-Fi. I was reading one of your other comments and I’m sure that’s my issue. I have the 4k system and all uPNP is enabled and still nothing. I’m assuming it’s my isp router and will have to contact them to allow. And I can find the system ip address in the info tab correct? Thank you for the correct port numbers. I will call my isp an see if they can help open them up

@@ajones9319 - if you have access to your local router, its called port forwarding, it is easy to configure, but the ISP can help you, or maybe they require they do it, in the 4K system, the uPNP setup is pretty well laid out, on the network tab, it gives all the ports, the 4K system fixes most (if not all) of the issues with the 1080p system - let me know how it works out, thanks for subscribing!

@@snapwholeharborfreightreviews so I did what you said, all uNUPs are enabled and I called my ISP an they showed me how to do the port forwarding through my phone on the Xfinity app an it still won’t work. I rebooted the system an still nothing. It weird because I will get motion alerts on my phone but no video connection still when not on the Wi-Fi. The ISP said I should contact cobra cause they don’t know what the issue is

@@ajones9319 is getting alerts new after the ports were opened by your ISP? rough one! with the connection working on wifi, but not externally, everything points to the ISP firewall, try setting uPNP to disabled for all ports and method to manual, if not working after that, try uPNP to enable and method to manual - you can test if the ports are open on the firewall by using telnet to to connect to your external IP and each of the ports, one at a time, your ISP should know how to do this, it is a command troubleshooting tool for network engineers, but seems strange to others - you can use a program called PUTTY, search google for putty download, download the putty.exe executable only, search google for 'what is my ip' and get your public IPv4 address, run putty.exe,, set protocol to telnet, set the port to each of the ports in turn, rtsp should not respond, but the others should, if nothing else have your ISP do the test so they can fix any issues they find - RTSP is used to send video to your phone, so the NVR should not respond on that port, I'll run these tests on my system today and post the results so you know what to expect

This is the 1080p system, it can only be viewed on a computer in internet explorer 11, which is no longer supported, so it can only be viewed on a monitor directly attached to the DVR, or from a phone, the new 4K system does support be viewed from a computer - thanks for subscribing!

lots of comments on this with good info, make sure you have connected an ethernet cable from DVR to iSP router - confirm you have 1080p system or 4K system, I have playlist for each system with a lot of info - same basic process but 4K system does have more info in the setup - best to get this working while phone is on local house wifi, then turn off wifi and see if it works, if it works on wifi, but not on cellular, your ISP router is not accepting uPNP setup requests from DVR, your ISP can manually configure your ISP router for you, it is called port forwarding, you can get the ports from the manual, open udp/tcp for 554, 80, 443 and 9000 - you also need to use a password of less than 8 characters for the user, DVR supports longer password, app does not - let me know how it goes - thanks for subscribing!

there are 2 videos you need to watch in this playlist - kzbin.info/www/bejne/eoCXaH6feLOeftE - part 2, part 4 and the new client video - I'm assuming you have it working at your house if you say 'when not home' but 4 and new client cover setting up the phone - pt 2 covers turning on uPNP, if you have uPNP turned on and its not working, make sure you have an ethernet cable between the DVR and ISP router, they usually have a light on the port tell you its working, then reboot the ISP router, let it come back up, verify your phone can get to the internet on wifi, then restart the DVR, when it comes back up, turn off wi-fi on your phone and try again - if still not working, you will need to call your ISP have them open up ports 80 443 and 9000 - tcp and udp, - if you phone does not work with wi-fi turned on, you need to reset the app, the most likely problem there is the password cn only be 8 characters long for the user you are trying to use for remote access - I did a data dump of the most likely causes of the problem, work thru those and post and updat here and maybe we can try something else - BTW setup a second and maybe a third users on the DVR, write down the usernames and passwords - so when you lock out the main account, you'll be able to use one of those 'spare' accounts to get back into the system - there is no password recovery on the 1080p system, but there is on the new 4K system, which is the 1080p system with all the problems fixed - thanks for subscribing!

video loss on all cameras points to the power supply for the cameras not working, or your DVR not outputting to the monitor (TV), or the TV no having the right input selected - do you see the ch 1 - 4 labels on the monitor? sorry misunderstood your question, can you connect to the DVR from your phone by selecting the unit and entering your password? - if you think its the power supply for the cameras, try the camera power supply on the DVR unit (they are the same power supply) and see if the DRV boots up, if the power light starts flashing, it is likely the power supply - I had a similar problem and I give specs on the power supply in this video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpmvnWCpbdlpm6s - double check the power out of a wall wart, I explain how to tell the right wall wart in the video - try this, it will provide more data to try and find the problem

@@snapwholeharborfreightreviews Wi-Fi is on phones when home. The monitor and phone show only black images with current date on it.Since internet explorer was discontinued not see on windows by desktop or laptop either.

i have version 2.1.21 (build002) is this the newest version that your talking about? because im still getting connection closed.i also use comcast (xfinity) and all the ip addresses are 10 .0.0.whatever but my dvr is a 192.168.1.105 address could that be my problem?

The different IP is definitely A problem, all devices connected to your internet router must be in the same subnet, for xfinity, thats 10.0.0.x - if they are different, make sure your DVR has on ethernet cable going from the DVR to the ISP router, that 192.168.1.105 address is not going to work, and its not being given out by the xfinity router - thanks for subscribing!

@@thegeckodon did you verify the dvr is connected to your ISP router with an ethernet cable and there are connection lights on both ends? and your phone is connected to your home wifi?, they both have to be connected to your home router to test and confirm it works - these are the three most common causes of the connection closing - you go into the control panel of the DVR and verify you IP address, same for your phone, and make sure the first three octets are the same on each device there sill be 4 octets like - 10.0.0.50, for 192.168.1.50, first three must be the same on both devices to test from home

@@thegeckodon you have to get the phone working on your local network before testing remotely, the most likely cause is one of those devices are not one the local network, check the IP address of both systems, and post the IP addresses for each, what type of phone are you using? iphone - go to setting wifi, and tap the wifi access point you are connected to and it will show the IP address, typically 10.0.0.? or 192.168.0.? and go to the DVR and go into the network tab and you should see the IP address of the DVR, while you are there, make sure the uPNP setting is enabled, post the IPs here and we can verify they should be able to talk

make sure you have upnp turned on on the ISP router, or have your ISP open the ports listed in the network tab, if you have the 1080p system, make sure uPNP is turned on in the network config tab, it is auto on the 4K system - also make sure you are using an 8 character password, the app will not support a longer password - connect close means the software can not connect to the NVR - recommend you get it working with wifi turned on and connected to your local ISP router - thanks for subscribing!

Hello, I have the same app however mine only show on my cell phone when I'm at home and the Wi-Fi is turned on my cell phone, the moment I leave home and run off network data it doesn't show what am I doing wrong?

do you have uPNP turned on? watch this playlist, uPNP should be covered in the DVR setup video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/eoCXaH6feLOeftE - uPNP will open up the ports on your ISP router to allow the system to work external - if uPNP does not work, you'll have to open them manually - if uPNP does not work, leave a comment and I'll give you some details - the process for manually opening the inbound ports varies with your ISP - you already got it 1/2 done just getting it working in the house - thanks for subscribing!

@@donharris1615 the DVR must be connected to the ISP router with an ethernet cable - if you can see cameras on your phones, the DVR is connected to some wireless access point - uPNP is a protocol the DVR uses to open the inbound connect for your phone automatically, if you want the DVR setup video, it shows how to turn on uPNP - its worth trying - Thanks for subscribing!

When I turn my wifi off on my phone the cameras go off line and I can't see them away from home any suggestions

your ISP router is not allowing uPNP from the DVR to open a port on your router, you'll have to open it manually, you can contact your ISP and ask them to walk you thru it - I have comcast, and their old and new gigabit speed routers supported uPNP - but there are a lot of ISPs out there, and a lot of modems - thanks for subscribing!

make sure you have upnp turned on on the ISP router, or have your ISP open the ports listed in the network tab, if you have the 1080p system, make sure uPNP is turned on in the network config tab, it is auto on the 4K system - also make sure you are using an 8 character password, the app will not support a longer password - connect close means the software can not connect to the NVR - recommend you get it working with wifi turned on and connected to your local ISP router - thanks for subscribing!

I purchased these cameras and cannot work them. I need a tutorial that I can understand. The manual consists of 37 pages. Please do a video without using the cell phone. I need plain and simple directions. I am not tech savvy so I really need help. M

first confirm you have this system, 1080p, or the newer 4K system, the 1080p system has no way to reset the password or reset the config to default, the 4K system has a password/config reset button on the back(very small recessed switch) - if you have the 1080p system, the user name is admin, start trying passwords, try every password you have ever used, then try all zeros, counting 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 etc, is the only way to recover the password - thanks for subscribing!

@megan Quattlebaum - you can get it to work thru your cellular data, but its a little harder, check the video I did for the old client, you have to scan the QR code - but the DVR needs to be wired to your internet router for the phone to connect - and you must have internet access for the DVR - kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZTMaYuGrZ2IjtE - Let me know if you get this working - Thanks for subscribing

@@joeslacker1020 these can be used standalone, no internet, not sure if any system will let you identify someone at 30+ ft in night vision, night vision will not work well in really dark lighting, there has to be some light, we have 4 system, and they all work the same

mine just says "connect close" in red letters and ever lets me connect. I did change my password to 8 char on the dvr also

verify the password you are using is only 8 characters, that is the most common reason for that

​@@cfhscheer The ethernet port is on the back of the unit. Just plug an ethernet cable from that plug then run the other end to your modem/router etc. It's just a hard wired connection to router/modem instead of being wireless.

What password do I use in the app after I scan the QR code cause I use the password that's the same for my login on my dvr and nothing works I put in 8 numbers for the password and nothing works

setup a new user and try it, the password on the DVR and the remote login is the same - check the setup of the user and be sure they are setup correctly - I have a video series on this system, you should watch the videos on setup of the DVR and the setup of the old client - kzbin.info/www/bejne/eoCXaH6feLOeftE - thanks for subscribing!

by default the record is on a loop, first recorded, first over written, no need to empty footage, you go to play back and verify you are recording in real time, if you are not, you should verify the recording option is set to motion activated, record all, or turned off, and verify you harddrive is function, two ways to verify your harddrive is ok, 1 - reboot and if you don't get a message saying failed harddrive, 2 - go to in settings and you will see a list of harddrives - thanks for subscribing!

You should get this working with your phone on your local wifi - and the password can not be longer than 8 characters is the biggest cause of problem you are having - setup a new user with an 8 character password and see if that worked - please let me know the result - Thanks for Subscribing!

Go into DVR settings click on Parameters then click on network then make sure highlighted circle is clicked onto DHCP then click save. Now go back onto the app & try too re connect too the camera system. This solved my connection issue.

I think the reason why we can't ever keep our cameras connected it is probably because it's being controlled by a one world camera system company. If not now it soon will be.

very strange, the cameras are wired to the system, if you can't keep the cameras connected, you should disconnect your system from the internet, cyberdyne has apparently connected your system to skynet, and arnold will be there shortly, no need to subscribe......

@@snapwholeharborfreightreviews I have a Rx Cam view that stays connected to the DVR via internet then does the connect close the next day. No other apps to keep it connected on the internet. What's the matter with the DVR or the app? I don't wanna keep restarting the DVR to keep reconnecting to it.

@@jester7169 did you try closing the app and reconnecting that way? I am not surprised the app disconnects after a day, lots of things in the network path can disconnect the session, do you have your dvr set to reboot daily? if so there will be a login prompt on the screen after the reboot - your ISP might have a timeout set on inbound connections - I'm surprised you have to reboot the dvr to get it working, I would try completely closing the app, then figure out what version of the dvr you have, if your login screen matches the one in this video, its the old firmware, if its different, you have the new version - if the dvr is booting, the dvr is causing the problem, if the dvr is not booting, its external to your drv, let me know the answers to the questions
