Who really cares what wranglerstar reviews? He's making a lot of money off the products he reviews and gets a ton of freebies to run his ponderosa.. Stuff everyone else has to buy..after his reviews...sorry some guy from Oregon I can't trust West coast people.. I wonder what he's going to do when this KZbin party comes to an end hopefully he has a chair when the music ends for sake of his family.. I'm sorry he is out of touch with the average person....

The Wavian can is what a person would use for road trips. The much less expensive Midwest can is great for home use where the cans will sit stationary in the upright position. 2 seconds after Joe Biden cancelled the Keystone pipeline I purchased a dozen Midwest cans for my backup generator & cars.The Ukraine thingy has me thinking about getting a dozen more as we all know gas rationing is just around the corner.

Tested mine for the first time with EZ flow high flow spout and must say that is pours painfully slow compared to the stock vented locking one that comes with it. Considering drilling it and putting in a vent plug but not quite sure yet. -update- I did put the tire stem vent system in. Man what a difference!

This is my plan exactly. Bought mine used without a spout but already have some high flow ones. Have vents coming in from Amazon. Painful to drill such a nice can but I think it will turn out to be a far greater improvement than a potential issue. The screw on nozzle doesn't quite give me the fizz like the cam system would.

Excellent suggestion. Traditionally, gas cans came with vents to eliminate glugging (glugging causes spillage). Personally, I favor used pre-ban NATO cans. These are exempt from the childproof nozzle requirement. They are grandfathered in. Honestly, you only really need one nozzle for your whole collection of NATO cans.

Thanks for this review. I went to my local Harbor Freight and got one of these metal jerry cans as well during the Father's Day sale (20% off). I'm also ordering one of those grey aftermarket caps you mentioned from EZPOUR. Do you happen to know which EZ Pour spout would work with these cans? Might snag one of those as well. Again, thanks for the review. Seems like a really practical and smart purchase vs. the Wavian cans.

Interesting. I have 6 of the wavians and want to continue adding to my fuel storage. I considered these, but I figured it’s a no-brainer why they’re less than half the price without the locking cam lid. Definite weak point is the plastic lid with pressure build up. However, using my wavians for vehicle transport and having an air conditioned garage in which these would be stored with limited abuse, I may be able to make these work. Have you found the added lids to be durable and not allow any fumes to escape?

I purchase two of these cans from Harbor Freight. The white insert screen was removed in the video. I found this filter created issues with filling the can from a gas pump. It tended to cause spillage unless one is very careful moderating the flow into the can. I was unable to remove mine without force so I left them in. Did yours come out easily? Also, did HF have the grey gas cap or were they purchased elsewhere. Thanks

I looked at some of these, but have got 10 Midwest cans w the same spout. I’ve modded the spout to be better, but I decided to just go for the Wavian. The $ you save on the van you’ll spend on another spout, so $160 later I’ve got 2 Wavian dsl cans on order. Once they get here I’ll decide if I like em or not.

Edit: I’ve looked at these Midwest cans in person, & after using my Wavian cans a bunch, I can say that spending the extra $ for the all metal design is well worth it. They come w a stock crappy safety spout design, but can be easily modded w some clear plastic tubing to have the same affect as the flex head spouts from Wavian that are $25 each! 6ft of the clear plastic tubing is $10 at Homedepot, & if u cut it into 2-1/2’ sections it works just as well for Diesel. On the other hand for Gasoline I wouldn’t use the plastic tubing for it. The steel cab is worth it for a Dsl, not for the gas IMO.

Great review ! Did the EZ lids pass the leak test ? The only thing I would offer as constructive criticism is the music volume being used as a transition (louder) to another thought and/or camera angle (quiter). I'm sorry brother, it adds an element of production that just lowers what appears to be a high standard of a/v quality you have. If you agree cool, if you disagree with me, equally as fine. Just my two cents... I appreciate your time spent in making this video.

@@jprohrer The EPA standards for fuel cans ARE CARB standards. California pioneered these standards. A few states followed CA's lead. Then the EPA effectively adopted the CARB standard nationally. @@howardsutton3502 Gas vapor is highly flammable. A hole in the can that cannot be capped is a dangerous idea. If you want to eliminate the glug on one of these Harbor Freight cans, drill a hole in the hump behind the handle, and install a shrader valve stem there. Remove the valve itself, and use a metal cap. Of course, your modified can will no longer be DOT or EPA compliant.

I have bought the cam type spigot, and I will need to buy a flexible metal spout for it. These plastic spouts mandated by DOT are ridiculous -- You have to push in and keep pressure on the plastic spout in order to let the gas flow through. I have found that mechanism to be dodgy and unreliable, often causing more spillage than a simple capped spout would have. It is awkward enough to have to hold a 40lb cannister at an angle while pouring, but then having to push down hard on the can from behind/top and engage the plastic hook on the edge of something while making sure it doesn't have too much shear force that makes it jam, is bureaucracy at its worst, making something simple safe and working into a Rube Goldberg contraption that fails when most needed.

@jprohrer

It is held in by two angled tabs, one on each side of the plastic screen. I slid a screwdriver between the side of the screen and the neck of the can and used that to collapse the screen enough for the tabs to slide through the neck, and then pulled it out with pliers. The screen got pretty mangled doing this.

I have had two of these Midwest / Valpro cans for the past three years and I have found that they are very well-made. I did have leaking problems with the CARB spouts, and recently, one of the caps did split. I just purchased the grey caps and I am going to use them in conjuction with non-CARB spouts. These have been hovering at around the $45.00 until recently at my local HF. I just checked and they are now up to $59.95. I am not surprized at all because of the war in Ukraine. Currently, Waivian cans are going for $89.99 on their website with an included spout and free shipping. Not too bad.

Metal will rust if the inside coating fails. Metal will also conduct an electrical charge, ie a spark? aluminum wont cause a spark but it can still conduct electricity. Plastic is inert, but will not standup to extended time in the sunshine. I like the plastic cans on my boat which I use in the ocean (saltwater is highly corrosive with steel).

The Wavian cans also come with a plastic spout, so I think the purpose is that many of us can't see paying more than twice as much to get a different plastic spout. You can get the flexible metal spout for the wavian cans, but that is an extra $25 on top of the $90 can. The metal spout would be nice, but it's not worth an extra $75 to me when the Midwest plastic one works pretty well.
