I just want to inform anyone who wants to operate a oxygen acetylene torch properly. Oxygen is obviously a oxidizer, and the acetylene is a additive to make the torch easier to light it, and get the cut started. After the cut is made, you can literally turn off the acetylene because the steel is already lit, and the oxygen turns the steel into rust, motel rust at that, and basically oxidizes the metal really rapidly. (Not a correct analogy, but it's close) Just like how your car is being slowly eaten away from moisture, and for you northern people, the salt increases that reaction. The method used in 6:00 is the improper way too cut. This is only used for cinematic purposes, but it does look cool though. What you want to do, is hold the torch perfectly still. Wait till the sparks start flying, and then 'slowly' advance across the piece, making sure your flame ends up on the opposite end of the steel before advancing. You can also turn the acetylene down, and the oxygen up.

One thing I learned from using my dad's acetylene torch when I was a kid was to use a welder's apron. You will see one day, tiny little burn holes in your coat and pants, or whatever you are wearing and it will tick you off! A welder's apron shields you from all that. Same goes for your face, arms and hands. A face shield takes care of the face, and "long sleeved" gloves takes care of the rest. Heating metal such as the pipe you did, can cause it to pop and explode sending small drops of molten steel in all directions...and it hurts when it hits the skin! From my own 20 acres of heaven, in NE Missouri. Craig

A torch is an essential tool in the rust belt. We had to use it all the time when we lived in WI working on the semi trucks.

The Tanks you get when you buy the Kit from (HF) are brand new, correct? But when you go to get them filled, you said the process is an "exchange". Does that mean you might end up getting some used and beat-up tank, after giving away your brand new ones?

Yes most gas suppliers will exchange not fill your tanks

Gave this vid a thumbs up! First vid I've seen where a dude who doesn't smoke, lights up a cigar, burns his Ford and repositions bent metal on it... all from a HF Torch. Man-Vid for sure! LOL.

Are the tanks that come in the kit D.O.T. certified? Some reviews say yes they are and some say no, I don't want to have trouble exchanging or refilling tanks at Gas supplier, and end up paying way more than estimated. I emailed Harbor Freight customer service, but they haven't replied, I'm beginning to think they don't want to "own it".

They are nice in a pinch , but they will bankrupt your wallet quick, you will end up getting a bigger set with larger tanks, less fill cost and last longer. if you cut allot or use rose bud convert to propane. way cheaper to operate.

This video is basically 80 percent some cool guy showing off how cool he is because he has a torch and some blue lights. In slow motion for some reason. In the amount of time you spent tooling around with lights and cigars you could have actually done a full on review. Nerd.
