Most honest, no bullshit review I've seen on this "rotary tool". I myself have bought it three times only because I lose the Colletes to my Dremel and $7-$10 for the accessories isn't a bad deal. But as you said twords the end the toot itself is a throwaway. I give them to my friends and ask the good Lord for forgiveness. Because I know I just gifted them frustration and agony. Did I mention it may cause erectile dysfunction with prolonged use?

Bought this one this week to cut an aluminum crimp band that holds the fitting on the end of my garden hose. It took about 40 seconds to cut off. A normal rotary tool would have taken about 5 or 10 seconds. Just as you said, this thing would be ok for hobby type tasks, or maybe light duty for someone that might only need to use it no more than a couple of times a year. For $6.99 it is good enough for some light duty jobs, but after using it I realize that I should have spent more for a better one that could be used for all jobs. Very good video

On the nail test, as with any tool, the idea is to let the tool spin at the maximum RPM and let the blade do the cutting. If you pressure it, and it loses RPM, you won't cut as deep and it will take 4 or 5 times to cut the same amount. This goes for any tool, even your other two rotaries, or saws, or grinders, or anything. Maybe you are just too heavy handed? It would also make sense for your other rotary tool accessory video, the only other I have seen to this point. Also maybe you have a bad angle but if you watch the video back you will see you don't stay in the same groove or at the same angle, again furthering the time it would take you to cut. you hop skip and jump out of the hole at like 19:21 and just keep going though you are about 5 blade widths away from where you are cutting at.
@ModernDIYProjects
@ModernDIYProjects 4 жыл бұрын
I understand what you are trying to say but unfortunately you weren't using the tool. The tool itself has a terrible wobble (unbalanced) making it very unstable causing it to keep hoping around. The blades are also horribly irregular and not flat causing instability and poor cutting. The RPMs could not be kept at a consistent rate because the slightest pressure would cause the tool to bog down. I was cutting with the slightest pressure. Any less pressure and I would be there till Christmas. It is just a terrible tool, even though I tried to end on a positive note.

To be honest even the cutoff Wheels that are Dremel brand would break if you pulled on them like that. Not saying that those are not flimsy just saying that cut off wheels are not designed to be side loaded. I don't understand why someone would buy this though unless they are really really strapped for cash. For twice the price you can get a full size rotary tool off Amazon. And for another 20 bucks you can get one that comes with a flexible pen extension, router head, grinding shield, and a enough attachments to last you for years.

Got this from harbor freight. The tool packaging says that it’s for wood I think somewhere on it. Not sure now. I threw the packaging away. I was cutting a car trim piece so, a piece of plastic. Cut through very well. It’s important to go slow and give the cutter some time. I think the plastic was about 2-3 mm thick and I was cutting a 42x20mm rectangular hole in it. Took me maybe 15 mins. This was the first time I was using a rotary tool, so I was very cautious. The shank did move up and down a bit on occasion and it was because of the grooves that were formed while making multiple passes. Took a flat head and removed some of the excess and it cut through just fine. All in all.. $10 for some basic hobby projects.. I won’t be trying to cut metal with this.. since it doesn’t appear to be made for that. Haven’t tried it on wood either. But plastic works very well. Just be patient.

I've had to tinker with it to get it to engage all the time in reverse, but it's performed like a champ for me for years. Just the other day, I thought I'd burned it up doing the control arms on my car, but the next day I pulled it out of the garbage and took it apart, to find the positive connection had come loose from the trigger switch. I tightened the screw back down and applied a li'l thread lock, and viola! Back in business again!

~7 or 8 years ago I asked for a dremel for christmas. I got both this set, and a proper GENUINE dremel. I still have both. Of COURSE I lost almost all the accessories! It's like, a felony to NOT lose atleast one piece in a tool set! Both have been abused, but the Chinese special still works! (Albiet the bearings in the motor are basically nonexistent, turning the tool into a vibrating sex toy...) The dremel ended up failing due to a design flaw (the end of the stator's windings snapped).

I finally had to throw mine out even intended as a light duty use. I spent way too much time patching it together and adding tape and glue to the motor mounts to keep it from vibrating itself apart. I have the same set and I agree that it has it's limitations. However, try and get the accessories for a better price. I realize they are not of the highest quality. I too have to tighten the collet with small pliers, but I use it for a lot of small tasks. We will see how long it works, I have had it a month. Difficult to say if it will work for you since only you know how much you will be expecting from the tool. Personally I would take it back and for a few dollars more you can get a much better tool for all sorts of hobby needs. If you have registered with Harbor Freight they normally email you the receipt. So you can check your email to see if it is in there. If you can't find your receipt then you can see if it will work out for you, but don't expect much from it.

We forgot we had it for years and now my dad was sanding some wood and I remembered we had this little thing and it's been doing much better than sanding by hand. Good to know it's not a good cutter, at least sanding seems to be doing alright. Can't say we expected much for the price anyway. Nice video, thanks!

I thought I was doing something wrong. One of the collets is too small for all of the attachments except for the smallest drill bits. And the other three collets are too large for most of the other attachments to get firmly locked in. 😢😢🤣🤣

Great review! You sold me on the hyper tough work light. Walmart should be kicking you a check every month! Keep up the awesome reviews and your garage is very neat an tidy! Are those knives between the garage doors?

Can this be used for working with acrylic fingernails?
@ModernDIYProjects
@ModernDIYProjects 2 жыл бұрын
It can, but the one that I got vibrated like crazy so I don't know how good it will be for you. The shaft was out of balance. You may get one that is better balanced than mine, I can't say.

Don't forget to use protection for your eyes and gloves for your hands for extra protection. Thanks for the video. There are special HB coupons that sell this for 6.50 and maybe even a little less.

Oh my goodness so I bought this just because I was short on money and I need it to sand down some of my resin pieces for jewelry making and I'm just like so scared rotary tool thing that goes in the hand gun thing it's just going to come out and it's going to hit my eye or something even though I wear glasses and it's really hard for me to find some goggles that fit I'm like so scared that is just going to pop out and I'm having to pause every freaking minute to make sure it's not going to pop out and hit my eye or something.... The first time when I was sending down a piece I did a first piece which was really small it's just like a heart for some earrings I'm making and then I was sanding down the other hearts and I didn't finish and yet the thing came out and I was like oh my gosh and I thought maybe I just didn't put it correctly but now that you mention it I need to take a pause every minute and I think I will definitely invest in that Black & Decker one that you have or the one that you suggested from Home Depot.. Anyway a little too late but thank you for making this video very informative

Had the previous version of this one. Cheap and very limited in its use. Fell apart within a year. Buy a Dremel or similar more durable brand. This is built flimsy and more a throw away tool. Although the size and concept is attractive, you get what you pay for. I bought a lot of Harbor Freight stuff for many years and been 100% satisfied. I was thinking about this one, I’ll pass.

Which adapter tip would u use to engrave your name on tools like wrenches and sockets?
@ModernDIYProjects
@ModernDIYProjects 2 жыл бұрын
It comes with a few metal tips that you can use for engraving, that is if your machine spins true. My machine has a huge wobble so it is useless as an engraver.
@selwyn13
@selwyn13 2 жыл бұрын
@@ModernDIYProjects Correct me if I'm wrong, it wobbles because the metal tip rod is warped. Right? So therefore can it be fixed by straightening it out on a vise by tightening and rotating it several times? Or at least improved dramatically? Or is that superrrr hit or miss?
@ModernDIYProjects
@ModernDIYProjects 2 жыл бұрын
@@selwyn13 It depends. If your metal tip is warped you could try to straighten it. But in many cases the machine internals are misaligned and that is why it has a wobble. To see if this is the case just try other tips. If they ALL wobble, then you know it's not the tips.

I would suggest to use it till it breaks, but before you run to Home Depot, check out Walmart. Check out my other video on the Walmart, Hyper Tough rotary tool ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/q3-onoR8gKqUpaM ) which is a good tool for only $6 more than the Harbor Freight tool you just got. Home Depot will probably be more expensive.

I bought one of these for the sole purpose of polishing oxidized copper jewelry. I've never used a rotary tool before, so I didn't want to invest a lot of money. It comes with NO directions of any kind and I STILL don't have a clue how to use it to polish. Can anyone tell me how to use it in that way? Thanks in advance.
@ModernDIYProjects
@ModernDIYProjects 3 жыл бұрын
It's simple. This applies to all rotary tools. Get the little fuzzy pads and install it in the metal rods with the screw on top. Insert that into the top of the rotary tool. Then add some polishing compound and away you go.
