You can use the factory light to trigger a relay to power the lights. I'm doing that on my JKU (2007). You have to be careful not to send power to the high and low beams at the same time though. It will fry the lights. You can also protect that using relays. Just double checked if you have fogs on and turn on the high beams the factory fogs turn off. BUT if you have the fog lights on and flash the high beams (pull stalk towards you) the highs AND fogs are on. That scenario would fry these lights.

I ended up cutting that part out unfortunately, but I tried that as well. Unfortunately it was making the relay buzz with the pwm. So it would have fried it pretty quick

Where did you connect the yellow running amber light wire?

I'm going to be wiring mine up soon with the same harness and switch. I'm going to wire them independent of the stock headlights and fog....will I be able to control amber, low, high with this setup? Im just learning about this stuff so excuse my ignorance.

Same here with the JL but the wire harness is pretty descent. I like so far.
@Vex_Offroad9 ай бұрын
Honestly my only complaint with the harness is the price. Other than that it’s pretty decent!

In case you missed it, there’s a voltage setting on JScan specifically for DRL’s. I have Rough Country headlights and they flickered on drl, but not since I maxed that voltage setting. Obviously my drl’s are now running as bright as full headlights, but that’s okay with me. You could get creative and tap the vehicle high beam and fog lights circuits and relay them into the individual functions of the off-road lights. With the 3-way switch you have, you could choose to turn each on independently without the vehicle switching or using the high beam and fog light stalk switches.
@Vex_Offroad9 ай бұрын
Unfortunately I cut that part out for time. But I tried changing the DRL voltage to 12 volts and still had the buzzing issue. Also I tried doing as you said by powering them off the fog and high beam circuits, however if you pull the stalk you can power both circuits at the same time. And for some reason I was still having flicker issues even if I tapped into power down stream of my anti-flicker box for my headlights.

Thank you for this...! I don't need these lights as much for distance, as the side shooters. I wonder if aiming them a bit apart would give me the desired effect. Either way, great informative video...! Thank yoy.

Great video! I run a 21 jlu 4 door with RC 6 switch pod. Normally with my off road lights i just run the negatives and postive to each little slot and im good to go. Assuming since this is a 3 postion switch. Running low and high needing a rocker switch that will match my RC 6 wouldnt work would it?
@Vex_Offroad7 ай бұрын
Thanks! So the thing to watch out for is powering both the high and low circuits at the same time. I know the switchpros system can be programmed to only power one circuit at a time but I’m not sure about the RC one. You could probably get crazy with relays and set up a “nand” gate, but it’s probably just easier to buy the harness 😂

Does one wiring harness go to both lights? I would love to pick up a set of these but I'm far from an electrician so this needs to be idiot proof. haha I have an spod and an empty spot for these so I'm assuming it just plugs right in? I have my fog lights set to come on when the vehicle is in Drive and would love to do the same with these so they all come on at the same time. Do you know if that's possible somehow?
@Vex_Offroad9 ай бұрын
Yes the harness runs to both fog lights and is plug and play. The only “wiring” you have to do is attaching the red and black to the battery and tapping into whatever circuit you want for the amber glow. I used a fuse tap on a circuit in the fuse box that is only powered when the key is on. As far as having them come on when you’re in drive… I’m not 100% use that’s going to be possible. Since the JK lights use “pulse width modulation” it’s going to cause the relay to buzz and chatter, likely leading to an early failure. I even tried powering just the amber glow off the fog lamp circuit but was getting weird flickering and behavior. So running it off the SPOD or the harbor freight harness might be your best bet. Just be sure to read the instructions carefully because you have to make sure you don’t sent power to the high beam and low beam wires at the same time.

@@Vex_Offroad Appreciate this. Your rig looks good, too. We have a similar set up. Mine is a 2015 JKU with 40s with air lockers off a twin ARB compressor. I went by Harbor Fright earlier today to pick up a pair of those 6" lights but they only had one in stock so I guess I'll have to wait. Thanks again for the reply and good luck out there on the trail!

I already have pods/wiring done. I'm assuming i will not be able to use the wiring harness i currently have because of the high/low feature of the switch theirs come with. Is that correct?
@Vex_Offroad8 ай бұрын
Yeah I’d say if you have no way of preventing both leads being powered at the same time you should just wire it to the high beam. I know the SwitchPro’s can be programmed to act as a 3 pole switch, but idk about others. I believe there’s also a way to do it with relays, but that’s above my pay grade lol.
