Thank you, just bought one of these, had exactly the same issue so I came to see if this was how it was supposed to be and found your video. Perfect information. THANK YOU!

Thanks! This modification worked great for me! The screw in the rheostat/potentiometer is a slotted screw, smaller than a #1. Like the video I was able to dial down the speed of my tool to buzzing without spinning and adjust upward from there.

I am building a mini lathe to make screw-in pins, turned down from setscrews. I want to use a sewing machine motor but some of the foot pedals won't let you vary the speed as much as you would like. I believe this will work, as I could adjust the potentiometer to give me finer speed control. Thank you for the information.

Im pretty sure you can still pop off the back and access this from a small hole in the circuit board itself without having to drill any holes.

Thanks for the info Todd. If I hadn't seen this it would have been crazy to bypass the old motor control board on my treadmill. I got lucky and got ine of these with screws on the back. 👍

The adjusting screw is on the bottom of the circuit board nowadays it seems. I just bought mine today. And i have to turn it all the way to the right to get the speed reduction I want

It occurs to me that I can very likely use my variac to get the same effect and probably with a better range and more precise control.

Who cares? This video isn’t about your fruity variac. Nobody is impressed
