I really do enjoy your small simple and cheap layouts. It's a great reminder to people like me who have this plan of a large complicated and extremely detailed layout that you don't need all that to enjoy model trains. Thanks to you guys I've got a little shunting layout in my office that gets used almost daily while I'm still planning my bigger layout. Keep up the great work 👍

That's quite a nice size and a good simple layout for a beginner in my opinion. I have a question though, is the Hornby OO standard points the same radius as the peco OO 2nd radius points? I don't know whether if it's the same radius or a different one because I only have the hornby one at the moment. Can you please check for me?
@BudgetModelRailways4 жыл бұрын
I am not sure what radius either is but the standard short points by Hornby and peco are identical
@BudgetModelRailways4 жыл бұрын
Ps the peco points are more robust and reliable than the Hornby ones

@@BudgetModelRailways I just looked on Hattons' website and peco's website and checked the measurements, they are in fact the same radius, length and the same frog angle

Nice little harbour scene and great use of the corrugated cardboard, just acquired some from s recent furniture delivery but not sure yet what to do with it. On another note I have a question regarding the variable speed unit. On one which I have the running loco will run at excessive speed for no apparent reason, even when I turn the speed just about off. This was preceded by some sparking on the track. Have you experienced this or any ideas on a solution? Many thanks
@BudgetModelRailways4 жыл бұрын
No sorry not had that. If it does it with every loco then it's the controller. Try a different controller? If it's only one loco then it's the loco. Sparky is usually either dirty track, wheels or pick ups, so maybe try cleaning those?
@charlie18724 жыл бұрын
Budget Model Railways Thanks very much, I will look at all of that. Do you have a video on how you have wired the loft layout eg, bus wire, wiring before and after points? Keep up the great work
@BudgetModelRailways4 жыл бұрын
We do have a video. No need for bus wires as its DC with insulating points so really simple. Bottom level is powered by just two wires which supplies all sidings and fiddle yards. Each of the top track has just two wires.
@charlie18724 жыл бұрын
Budget Model Railways Interesting. My layout is approx 10x9 with two main lines with four tracks going through the station and at the other end I have the siding loops. Some of the locos slow down at certain areas so I thought I might need to add additional droppers plus at the points. Thanks.
@BudgetModelRailways4 жыл бұрын
Depends if you are using insulating points. You could add an additional power feed to be sure, it's simple enough. Slow spots are more likely to be dirty track and or fish plates

Another nice layout, Mike! The lack of an operating front coupler on Bachmann's switch engines (as we call them here in the states) isn't just a UK issue. They do the same thing over here! Just by the nature of its work, a switch engine needs an operating coupler on both ends. I don't know why Bachmann can't figure that out...

Again a nice small layout. Can I just ask what controllers you use? As your layout is small, the locos will be running slowly, with Hornby controllers that creates a 'buzzing' sound, so keen to know which controller you use. Keith
@BudgetModelRailways4 жыл бұрын
We use our own controller using our 3d printed box and electrical components from China, details on our website and earlier video. Basic Hornby controllers are awful at shunting.
