The journey towards Doctor Who Season 2 is heating up, with people getting more and more excited. Season 1 was a mixed bag, but I fully believe things will be much better the second time around. And here's why.

I agree with that partly that they won't have been able to take into account the feedback from season 1. That said RTD did have great series in the past and there are also some different writers in the mix this time and it looks like it will be more serialised too so hopefully all those factors allow for it to be better and make season 1 more of a fluke! But I'm not setting my hopes too high either; cautiously optimistic though!

I personally don’t understand the “it’s not made for me anymore” trend that’s sprouting up these days. Like if it doesn’t work. It doesn’t work. Lots of people didn’t like it and it’s becoming a bit of a worrying complacency to just blame people’s TASTES than to be critical of the product itself. Doctor Who can be for everyone right NOW. There’s such little reason for it not to be. It’s probably the most universal show interms of its demographic. It can be scary, slow, fast, fun and heartfelt at the same time.

You've done a sterling job arguing that Season 2 will be better, but unfortunately I have zero faith that will turn out to be true. Season One style, tone and narrative were designed to be successful. So let's assume that they thought it would be. They then go on to film season two, and would not have wanted to change a winning formula. They would have wanted to deliver on a proven success, not meddle with, change or update the formula and risk alienating what they believed would be a whole new fanbase. Nothing can be changed as regards Season Two. The one thing that *can* be changed, however, in response to critical mauling of season one would be the trailer for the upcoming season. This could be recut to focus exclusively on those things which people said were poor, needed changing, or missing from the debut season. That's what I think we're seeing here - a desperate bid to bring in an audience, rather than any likely change or shift of substance to the stories or programme itself. I think you're putting an awful lot of weight on that trailer.

I disagree with that. The whole reason Ruby’s mum was ‘important because we thought she was important’ (which is a terrible plot point btw) is because Ruby convinced us of that. Basically, Ruby thought her mum was important, making us and everyone around her think she was important, therefore manifesting her to seem more important. This is NOT the case with Ms Flood. She’s important because she HERSELF made herself out to be important by breaking - and continuing to break - the 4th wall. To put it simply: Ruby’s Mum important because Ruby said so. Ms Flood important because Ms Flood showed us so.

I do hope they pivot towards sci-fi a bit more, because it doesn't have to be very much. If you want to use some monster from folklore in a story, you can still do it. It's only as hard as saying they're some kind of alien or something, but also I think it can make writers more creative to have that little obstacle to work around. Season 1 often felt like the answer to most of my questions would be "just go with it" or "it's space magic lol", so I kinda stopped asking, and I didn't feel particularly invested most of the time. The exceptions were where the threat was properly set up and understandable. It sounds obvious but the whole "how are we going to get out of this one?" question is really important to adventure writing. It's fun to try to figure that out... and it's boring if you know there's no way you could possibly figure it out.

Where do I send my pound? As a Who channel, Im sure there are people that reach out in the industry, thats fine, its how one can make content, but whether one is considered a "schill" or not, I can see a number of content creators struggling to find something positive. When one starts with "I couldnt get invested but series 2's color seems to pop more...". Im sorry, thats struggling...Ive watched since the 70's, I was blown away with its return, I thought it fantastic(?) a new audience found my beloved anti hero awesome too. I havent watched since Capaldi (Pertwee fan, sadly i think they bookend the series nicely), but I did try, and with the Tennant tease, I tried again...this is just not my Doctor, in any iteration and as one thats read DW comics in the 80s, Big Finish, DW magazine, ordered a Tardis clock included issue through ebay, action figures, been accused of looking like "the fucking Master" going out to bars in the 90's, and still consider myself a casual Who fan, this is not for me...I tried, I'm not biased or racist but I feel like im being sold on something and it isnt fun stories . I'm sorry people who have honest opinions about writing or acting are all tossed in with a few bad actors. If something is good, no matter how outrageous or strange to "normal" people, we are going to watch it regardless of politics or bad actors, but that has to go both ways. If this counts as snarky then i thank you for allowing me to post this opinion after watching the whole video (and many of your older ones), just tell me where to send my 2 cents or pound as it were.

Very unlikely to be *much* better, it was filmed in a block with Season 1, so even if RTD was humble enough to ever listen to feedback (he isn't), there would have been no real changes. Gatwa will be S2 more, but as his characterization of the Doctor was part of the problem, if that hasn't changed, I don't see people being reeled back in.

Only big problem I had was that the focus was too much on magic/fantasy. Sure it's fine for a bit, but not all of it. People complain about Daleks always being present, but I actually missed that. Not the Daleks specifically, but just some tie to older Who. Any regular monster from either the classic series or the revival would've made me appreciate it more.

I definitely think that Doctor Who needs new writers. I think the series also needs a 'bible' of things to not go against. Things set in stone that they do not change, to prevent things like the Timeless Child from reoccuring that... Really divided the fanbase because of their sweeping, broad change out of nowhere with no real meaning or impact. Big Finish, for example, certainly has its fair share of mediocre stories, but has some really fresh writing, with some of their stories in my opinion being much BETTER than the show itself, never stepping on the toes of major canon. I think Doctor Who was... 'wounded' by only really having three major showrunners with very few other writers coming in here and there, who eventually kind of felt like they really can just do whatever they want with the show, past stories and history be damned. It needs fresh blood, new outlooks, and it needs to keep its creators and showrunners on a leash. Either that or the show needs another decade or so on hiatus, but that absolutely won't be hapening given all the spinoffs and tie ins coming along now.

@friendlyotaku9525 perhaps bible is too strong a word. But a lot of series have a list of immutable laws, like "the protagonist does not kill", or... An example for doctor who might be that Rassilon claims to have invented regeneration, but the Sisterhood maintains that Regeneration was pioneered on karn, and later stolen by Rassilon. To steal a concept from the show itself ... Most events are in flux. They can be changed, revised, altered. But certain times are fixed points. They must always happen and cannot be changed. The series needs a list of things that are fixed points.

Just because RTD has come back and said its a show that has no rules doesnt erase history lol. Up until the last several seasons of the show the only unwritten rules that were broken were minor errors by various writers. A lore/character bible like most shows have would help in that aspects when dealing with multiple writers

Hang on a minute Harbo, there wasn't too much wrong with the original 2005 relaunch, it relaunched the series and people seemed pretty enthusiastic about it. That crew (of writers, producers, directors, lighting techs, set designers, camera people etc etc) were new to each other, i would have thought, so making that a reason for the first Gatwa season being shaky seems pretty shaky reasoning to me?

This "New team" theory doesn't make sense. RTD handpicked his Bad Wolf Productions team. Commencing on Doctor Who content, for 2022's TPO The Doctor. Since then filming has returned to Wales and we have had multiple Moffat stories. None of this is new. Tennant, Donna, Sylvia, Wilf and Sean were pivotal (for Disney). All returning actors. Kate Stewart and UNIT have been a key presence, for about 12 years now. All returning actors. Damn, we've even had the returns of Mel Bush, Sutekh. Teagen, Ace and whatever the "Guardians Of The Edge" was all about. Again... All returning actors.

I am cautiously optimistic about S3, and going to go for S2 with zero expectations, good or bad. Good news and bad news pretty much cancel each other out. For example, four new writers announcement is great news, one of them being McTighe is not, especially since his episode will be at least 10% of the season.

I’ve just thought of something that I can’t imagine would come to fruition but I hadn’t thought of before: Has anyone considered that Mrs Flood is Clara Oswald? I usually don’t like this kind of theory (Rory is the Master kind of thinking), but she wears clothes very similar to Clara, Clara has her own TARDIS, and she is kiiiiind of immortal? I know she should eventually get her pulse back and eventually die but in terms of canon we don’t really know when that would be… she could live for years and years with her body somehow aging. Just something to consider so I can call out that I predicted it on the 0.01% off chance that it happens 😂

The problem is that season 2 was filmed before they saw the audience reaction to season 1 and that has means there can have been no course correction. At best I think the viewership for this coming season will remain static but I fear the viewership will continue to decline. Russell T Davies does need to dial down the whole LBGTQ agenda, the show was in a bad enough place after Chibnall and Whittaker and it could be the final nail in Doctor Who's coffin. The LBGTQ part of the audience is a very show percentage of those that watch the show and most people don't want to see the Doctor kissing a man, being lectured about his use of pronouns or every other character stating they are gay for no reason at all in regards to the story.

I went back and watched the series again from the Ecclestone reboot, just to see if Id grown out of the show or if it has genuinely been poor for the last few years. And it has genuinely just been poor. Its upsetting how great it was and how much it has fallen. I loved it until the end of Capaldis run. I actually had high hopes with the new specials when they brought Tennant back. It wasnt as good as it had been, but I realised quickly that it was Tennant and Tate that carried those episodes. I thought the casting for the new Doctor showed a lot of promise. But its still just trying to shoehorn things in rather than just produce good stories.

The only way I will see Season 14 & 15 etc of Doctor Who is if they come out on DVD or Blu-ray. 1) I checked into the pricing of Disney + and I cannot afford the basic price Plus, Disney then adds an extra cost for Doctor Who separately (At least thats the way it appeared to me). 2) There is a Global Boycott of Disney ongoing that I am apart of. Has nothing to do With Doctor Who & is about Disney Global Corporate Culture & Pricing (At least thats WHY I am boycotting Disney). I got the 60th specials on DVD. I enjoyed the stories but I could see already with-in the first 5 minutes of the first special, these were not worthy to be 60th anniversary shows. But I liked them despite that. So unless the 15th Doctor Who comes to DVD or Blu-Ray I will not be watching.

@@WiloPolis03 I agree, but not if almost _all_ of the episodes fall short because of it and _certainly_ not if the writers and showrunner refuses to put in the effort and actually _try_ to make it work (Boom, Heaven Sent, Blink, etc are all stand-out examples of experimentation working, and it's because Moffat put the time and care into _making_ it work). As it stands, RTD is less _experimenting_ and more "smashing his toys together," refusing to follow the established rules (be that the rules of Doctor Who or just writing in general) or any sort of actual logic, choosing instead to make Doctor Who a fantasy show because "fantasy has no rules" and proclaim that anyone who has any issues with that blatantly incorrect and nonsensical statement or the activism he's shoving in must be homophobic, racist, or both. I personally just don't find it exciting to be let down every week and then be insulted by the showrunner and main lead for not resonating with their "we can do whatever we want regardless of the consequences" attitude and finding the "Doctor's" constant crying and inability to stand up to others to be out of character; that's not fun or entertaining, nor is it right for the audience to be treated like that when all they want to see is a badass guy using his brain to outsmart his enemies and doing his best to help out of kindness.

@@WiloPolis03 I detest 73 Yards for it's insanely unsatisfying and nonsensical ending. Why did it take until old age for Ruby to travel back in time? _How_ did old Ruby gain time travel? Who was Mad Jack and what was his connection to Roger ap Gwilliam? Without Ruby's curse interfering in the new timeline, who's going to deal with Roger (we absolutely should've been told in _this_ episode that the Doctor was involved rather than waiting until the series finale, and literally would've been as easy as having Ruby question the Doctor on what happened to "the most dangerous Prime Minister" after he'd brought him up at the end)? What was the woman saying that could terrify people in such specific, identical, and targeted ways? Why did Roger resign when Ruby's curse simply makes people want nothing to do with her? Unlike episodes such as Midnight, the unanswered questions in 73 Yards are necessary for the plot to be believable, and their absence just makes things too vague and contrived to be interesting or worth anyone's time.

Not everything is perfect. Watch the early model era episodes of Thomas, and then you'll understand what I mean. If underground Ernie got another season, it would have been better than season one heck the improved models say otherwise, though it's mainly a sign of the technology getting better and what series two of the show would have looked like if they continued making further seasons instead of canceling it early with the prior false hopes that UE would derail TTE because any studio thought anything pre chugginton was going to destroy Thomas and claim the mantel. Obviously, that didn't happen, but I'm getting ahead of myself point is that both Thomas and doctor who as franchises, aren't perfect they are bound to have weak episode's that the fandoms will rip apart

If RTD is writing it then it’ll be crap. The Doctor started off as an older looking, eccentric, unpredictable, slightly aloof, mischievous and erasable charming rebel but now sadly he’s been turned into a superficial, shallow, vain, flirtatious overtly emotional airhead. What was so unique about the Doctor especially in Classic Who was that he didn’t behave just like a human would. RTD damaged that. He is a *Warrior* like the Brigadier (who let us not forget had the Crowning moment of Awesome in Battlefield, facing off against Satan himself...and Winning!), not a Wimp! this is the *Doctor* for goodness sake, the man who has sent whole Dalek Fleets Fleeing in Terror at the very mention of his Name! he should never come across as a Wimp! while it was Ok in the other two examples as both were the result of Genuinely Traumatic Experiences for the Doctor, although I still think the best reaction was at the end of "Warriors of the Deep" with the "Thousand Yard Stare" from Peter Davidson as he whispers in a completely broken Monotone "there should have been another way"...showing the Doctor was too traumatized to even cry....no Emotions left, just sheer, Broken, Trauma, and it is that moment of absolute Devastation that just shows the sadly missed Potential of that Serial, having the Doctor Cry constantly however is just...Disgusting! as that is Not the Doctor!) and Tom Baker Years I think, as they had the one thing New Who is sorely Missing.. *good Writing* ! Sorry, I don't share your optimism and I am no longer prepared to give DW the benefit of the doubt, as I had been doing for years, even through all the eye-bleeding wretchedness of Season 1, right up to the foul stink of dog shit that was Empire of Death. Your assessment of the next season, on the back of one trailer, seems not so much reading between the lines but outright wishful thinking and projection. It's as if you're pleading for it to be good. I do understand the motivation, honestly. But, this time round, I ain't buying. I finally tapped out with JTTW and from what I've heard and seen in multiple reviews, including yours, I'm 100% happy in that choice. And I won't be going back until such time that everyone - absolutely everyone - who has been involved in the making of the programme since 2005 doesn't get within a hundred miles of it ever again. They're creatively exhausted, out of ideas and have nothing interesting to say. As a result, the show is stagnant, predictable, lifeless, feeble and boring, endlessly recycling its hoary old 'new Who' tricks, failing to thrill, excite, intrigue or engage. It has already long passed being merely moribund and is now well settled into terminal rot. So, good luck. I hope your cautiously optimistic anticipation meets reality at least halfway. But I won't be putting any money on it. I might watch your channel to find out. But I certainly won't be watching any more of RTD's astonishingly ill-advised second coming.

I have hopes season 2 will be better. I might get flak for this but imo russells first 2 seasons last time round where his weakest but season 3 and 4 are amazing. He does tend to get better as he goes. But the shows need to slow down. Season 1s episodes always felt rushed to me and i feel like i still dont know this doctor.
