I have to differ with you. The only reason why many aliens looks human in appareance, let alone why many sapient alien species have a humanoid based physiology, is simply because the Time Lords set their Spiral Politic to tamper with the evolutionary pathway of every life across the universe: so that a larger account of so-called "lesser species" would evolves into the likeness of the Gallifreyan race either way.

My personal theory is that it's just so far in the future that they look human because they descended from Humans. They didn't adapt too far away for the simple reason that humans look specifically for Earthlike planets for colonization. The Dalek, the Timelords, Red Rocket Rising, they all descended from Humans.

Humanoid villain = The Master. The issue is how often the character is used. If you want a timelord villain, use the monk, the Rani, omega, rassilon, or even the eleven. Be creative. Master, Cybermen and daleks need a break.

I don't think the Daleks can get a break (I think there's some kind of agreement with the estate of Terry Nation) but I do think that the master and the cybermen are important to the show so maybe having the cybermen appear every few series and having the master show up at least once or twice a doctor would work. Both are incredibly iconic but also need to be put on the sidelines for a bit so new villain's can come along and have the spotlight for a while. The ice warriors would be a good choice in my opinion as I've always liked them as a concept and they're known by more than a handful of people while still really appearing. In terms of time lords it might be good to bring the Rani back with the Master and have them reluctantly team up or something like that and it would also mean a different time lord character aside from just "deranged madman with genocidal tendencies" and instead it would be a completely different character who has no real emotional attachment and is willing to do whatever she needs to do for her experiments. I understand that with Gallifrey gone again there's even less chance of the Rani than there ever was before but with the right writer I think she might be able to shine.

@@gamerhoagy5998 Russel T Davies didn't like that plot development (neither did most fans) so when the revival series started in 2005 they just ignored it, and then fully retconned it Journey's End when they explicitly say that The Doctor is fully Time Lord, with Donna Noble being described as the first Time Lord/Human hybrid. It's very much a "just ignore it" issue, with there not being a direct in-universe explanation for the inconsistency. Honestly, at this point, I'm fine with them just ignoring it. Doctor Who is full of contradictions, and this is just another one.

There's a twist they should do with the Master: have a heroic character turn out to be the Master. The Master is a character who has plenty of potentially unseen incarnations due to his use of different bodies, the whole 12 regenerations limit being introduced when only 2 people played the character ect. You could have it that a Master from a lot earlier in his timestream shows up and have to deal with the drama he'll eventually break bad one day or a Master who's trying to be good but we know he'll eventually fail to do so. It'd be like an inverted Valeyard situation

Honestly, I'm surprised the whole companion betrayal has never happened before. OK there was Turlough, but he seemed very conflicted about the whole thing and eventually chose to side with the Doctor. But in all the Doctor's adventures everyone he picks up always seems to love him and have some unshakeable loyalty to him. It would be interesting to see a companion who the Doctor just shouldn't have trusted.

I think what's frustrating is that half the fan theories end up being better than the last ~6 seasons or so. e.g. Missy: I was really hoping that was some kind of "entry to heaven" in the first few episodes, and that the "good dalek" dying made way for some kind of twisted Dalek invasion of heaven. Instead... we got what we got. a rushed finale that while noone probably saw coming... we all regret seeing.

As much as Rory dying became a gimmick, they always brought him back in reasonably believable ways (in the context of doctor who anyway) it was always a plot oriented death and the plot brought him back to life in lots of different ways. He never had a death where I questioned the way in which he came back. Even the Masters second return in Tennant's run was less believable as a plot than pretty much all of Rory's reanimations. Rory doesn't regenerate. With the amount of times he has died, if he were a Time Lord we would have seen a regeneration by now.

This was the issue I had with Dhawan's Master; we'd just seen one of the most interesting and nuanced portrayals of the character ever with Gomez, and then barely two years later they brought him/her back again as a cartoon villain. I personally am fully subscribed to the theory that his incarnation is in between Simm and Gomez chronologically (even moreso now having seen how his story ended in TPotD) so it didn't necessarily compromise Missy's S10 arc to characterise him the way they did, but it was still jarring to see such a reduction in depth after such a short period of time

I mean, it kinda makes sense that if you were killed by literally yourself, TWICE, specifically because of the doctor (or at least, it seems like the kinda jump an incarnation of the master would make to believe that since the doctor turned her good and being good is why she died that the doctor is the reason she died) youd get a bit jaded, kinda self hating, and want to either die, kill the doctor, or become her

I think there's nothing wrong with people speculating, it's only when they make a fuss about their idea of what should've happened, not happening. I'm a big lover of theory videos, watching them always gets me excited for what might actually happen, and though I know it's realistically not true, imagining what could be opens up a lot of possibilities - and can even inspire fanworks, well-made or otherwise. Kind of like those theories about Jar Jar being a sith lord in Star Wars, I think the idea is fantastic, and it'd make a great fan story or fan comic. I'm not as big into the Rory master idea, but I like the spirit of theorycrafting -- again, the only rankle is when people complain. In the end, I believe there's a healthy balance to be had where you can enjoy a crazy theory but not set your expecations for it to appear in the show or film or what have you

It honestly never crossed my mind that Rory might be The Master. On the other hand, The Master is conspicuously absent throughout the 11th Doctor's time. We're lulled into a sense of security with Sim's Master stuck in the Time War. However, as we've seen, when the Time Lords aren't around to fix things, time itself can be damaged (see S1E8 Fathers Day) so, things which were previous immutable (fixed points) could change. Like Jackie's memories of how Pete died. So if you're The Master, any weak points in time are like open vaults full of riches. Why wouldn't you take advantage of an opportunity to disguise yourself but also keep tabs on what The Doctor is up to these days? The writers go to some lengths to explain why the 12th Doctor took a particular face. They could have also done the same for Missy, but instead there's a big chasm of nothing that you can fill with any theory you like. I think that they're banking on that, actually. The moment that they lock something in like where a face came from, they're stuck with that, but leaving things open means that they can do a call back later on if it suits the storyline.

Between 2014 and 2017, I came up with three different theories about how Missy was really Clara. My first theory was that she was just an older version of Clara, which was largely based on the fact that both characters refer to The Doctor as their boyfriend in Deep Breath. After her true identity was revealed, I changed tack, assuming that, just like Tremas from The Keeper Of Traken and Bruce from Doctor Who: The Movie, Clara would eventually be possessed by The Master’s dissembodied consciousness, possibly when she was near the crack in time on Trenzalore thst led to Gallifrey, the last place that Missy’s predecessor had been known to be. I was guessing that the Season 9 finale would involve The Doctor trying to force The Master out of Clara’s body (possibly in a callback to Rose being pissesed by Cassandra in New Earth), but failing, and Clara dying when Missy is shot by The Brigadier at the end of Death In Heaven. Despite accidentally predicting that Clara would “die” in the same way as Missy in The Magician’s Apprentice, I was ultimately proven wrong 2 fold by the Season 9 finale killing Clara off and then bringing her back in a state in which she would never age. I did not give up on my theory however, this time postulating that Clara absorbed some of the regeneration energy that The Doctor gave Davros in The Witch’s Familiar, enough for her to regenerate into Missy after dying on Trap Street. My initial thought was that Clara had in fact been possessed by The Master during the events of Hell Bent, since the vault that she and The Doctor traverse to steal a TARDIS looked like exactly the sort of place that The Time Lords would have imprisoned The Master’s consciousness after his attempt on Rassilon’s life in The End Of Time, however I later decided that my initial assumption that The Master had escaped from Gallifrey through the crack in time seemed mire plausible, since it explained Missy’s actions in The Witch’s Familiar. We’re made to think that she’s only protecting Clara from the daleks so that she can mess with The Doctor by tricking him into exterminating Clara himself, but it would make even more sense if she knew that Clara was already possessed by her younger self and wanted to make sure that she stayed alive until she had absorbed the regeneration energy, after which it was all the better for her if Clara died earlier in her timeline, since Missy would come into being sooner and have time to upload even more people to The Nethersphere in preparation for the events of Dark Water /Death In Heaven. Suffice to say, I’m not that keen on The Doctor Falls, since it not only definitively debunks my theory, but also misses out on the incredibly obvious opportunity to set up the events of Dark Water /Death In Heaven. So yeah, it’s never a good idea to try and predict what a writer will do next.

Have to say, the most annoying one for me was one i came across under strange circumstances. Once in an after school club at the local community centre, i sprayed my eye with paint, dumb i know, and yes it was accidental, but nonetheless i had to sign the form taking responsibility so the centre doesn't get sued for child harm or whatever. The admin guy i had to talk to asked my interests to which i answered doctor who. He then started telling me about his memories from the 70's, telling me about how the 4th doctor fought the sea devils. Despite only being about 10 at the time i was well versed in classic who and told him it was the 3rd and 5th doctors, he told me i was wrong, insulting my 23rd of november heritage (yes that was my birthday, and getting 8th and 18th birthdays on 50th and 60th respectively was and will be fun), and then went on to tell me the biggest twist of them all, davros is the master. Lucky for the guy the form got signed as he said that and i left the room, as i don't think i would have had self-control for a structured or polite come back at that age. :D Moral of the story, the master isn't davros, and in fact adam is davros, which is a theory that was so crazy i can't even be mad about it. Opening head thing = third eye, wait a second are the silurians davros? :)

I had a theory that The Master was secretly behind The Silence, and it all started with me wondering how The Silence could have possibly had the technology and knowhow to remotely high jack the TARDIS and fly it into the sun. That's not a thing that anyone other than the Time Lords should be able to do. So The Master being the mastermind behind it made sense, but there really wasn't much else to the theory.

There are several races in classic who that can manipulate tardises including the Daleks. The Daleks even make their own Tardis is one episode. Exxilon technology drains the power from everything near by including tardises and Dalek ships. Plus much more. There's a hand full of races that have the capability to do a lot to a tardis. It's just these newer writers don't seem to be aware of them. Only really the Daleks which is a shame.

The first few points of "proof" that Rory is the Master. Me: "that is kinda weak, carry on with the roast" The part about the banging in Rory's head, I noticed the similarity immediately, but there was a reasonable explanation for his headache so I just thought it was funny. Rory being the master would explain River being half timelord.... Okay, I think you're convincing me of the wrong thing here. Because that does make a lot more sense than the given explanation. I don't think Rory is the Master, it wraps up that one thing, but opens a lot more questions than it answers. Like "what exactly is his plan?". Though, Rory and Jacobi's Master look fairly similar, maybe.

IF I was in Davis' shoes, I'd definitely bring about the return of Arthur Darvil maybe later into the tenure of Ncuti. As a timelord variant who turned out to be not the master but a young timelord (barely a child) at the academy, who's parents hid him away on earth, knowing their son would be protected by the famed doctor and have a chance at a full life, using the chameleon arch to make him human enough. That's what the fog watch would be, but he definitely wouldn't be the master or the Rani or anything like that, just a timelord refugee. And he makes the sacrifice to return to a life of humanity with Amy, rather than returning to being a timelord, even though the doctor can't hide that they know Rory's inevitable fate. But even then that's a stretch and only if I didn't have any other ideas and Arthur wanted to come back for a bit. I'd love to see more Rory to be fair, I just feel he got the short end of the stick one too many times

I think the bigger issue in a lot of cases of bonkers fan theories was with Moffat's writing: he's constantly trying to imply that there's a reasonable explanation to anything and then either forgets to give it or comes up with new concepts to not let a single expectation go unsubverted. Of course the viewer would try to create theories to fill the void of answers, where the actual contents are "nothing, lol." After all, reasonable explanations already exist in the canon, but no, we're too clever for that - the Rory double was created from memory residue and a book about Centurions because fuck you for paying attention.

The problem is simple. Once RTD left, the rules of the Who world were tossed aside in favour of 'clever' twists and reveals. No fixed points in time. No not being able to interfere in your own past, no more Time War wiping out two entire species. In the RTD era, we got to cry because Rose's father died, and she couldn't save him. Couldn't even try without consequences. Sim's master appeared because he'd left Gallifrey before it fell. The Time War and The Moment couldn't be stopped, but they could be frozen in time. Anything to reverse that would mean the Time War would just pick up where it left off. So now we have a series where no one ever dies, everything that happens can be undone later or just ignored. The scripts are so far-fetched and ridiculous that fan theories seem reasonable. Nothing has consequences, therefore nothing is real, and nothing you watch really matters.

@@TheSmart-CasualGamer Moffat was great at writing single episodes, so when he had twists that were episodically contained (god complex, amy's choice, obviously his pre showrunner episodes like doctor dances) they were incredible. But he doesn't know how to run a show over multiple episodes and make it coherent, so when he tries to make a huge, multi episode (hell, even multi series eventually) complex story with twists and turns and etc. it just ends up as a convoluted mess that has good episodes but as a whole is kinda bad

Has the Rani returned at all in the Modern series yet? Romana? Susan? What really peeved me off about the Chibnall run is his "Destroy Gallifrey again..." You know, this "Last of the species" trope was a bit tired even when the modern series started. We got a resolution of that polot with the 50th anniversary episode, thru the Capaldi years(Which didn't seem to really build racktion until Bill and Nardol showed up). An ex-girlfriend first introduced me to Doctor Who with Season 5 when it first aired on TV. She was adamant during Amy's Choice that the antagonist was The Master somehow, rather than the Dream Lord being a manifestation of the Doctor, as it was revealed at the end. Granted, I had no idea who the Master was at that point (I was watching seasons 1-4 whilst 5 was airing, and hadn't gotten to Season 3 by that point), but I feel it's definitely better storytelling to expand and create new characters than constantly just rehash the same old ones.

The reason the theory is so weird is that it was about Moffat's seasons, Moffat's favorite thing to do is imply that clever things are happening in the background, introduce questions that are not really answered, and inspire wild speculations about everything. Because Moffat's style is that one that COULD treat small inconsequential things as twists. Maybe it's not strictly speaking his FAULT, but it's the inevitable result of his writing (the same thing happened in Sherlock). 6:14 Well, you know, there is another obvious reason for why Amy's daughter could be half Timelord...

This has been an observation of mine for a bit. And all I can say that when I see something or hear dialog that breaks canon or gets people looking for connections that aren't there, the answer is always: the writers. Writers like to add dialog or story points for effect regardless of how it totally wrecks the universe. For instance, the Doctor say, "I don't know what the round things do" is BS as we'd seen the Doctor work on the TARDIS from the locations all the time.

"Why is everyone the Doctor?" is what I thought when the Timeless Child gave the Doctor another twenty-something past incarnations on-screen-which we'll never even see stories of, given the first dozen just saw the inside of Tecteun's lab and never said a word. They felt so expendable. It felt like the Doctor just lost their definition and could be literally anyone walking down the street, and you'd never know. There could be MILLIONS of them. We could have an entire universe/planet populated just by Doctors. We could all be the Doctor and have no idea.

I remember people saying that Clara was Jack's daughter because she popped up in different time periods, completely ignoring the facts that Jack doesn't show up in a random time period when he comes back to life AND Jack had kids who are completely mortal. They also said Clara was the child of Tentoo and Rose because she was "timey wimey". Like these theories are not even thought out

I mean, a child of Rose and the meta-crisis doctor ending up being a companion in theory is a good idea. However, there would need to be a complicated explanation of how said child has gotten into the main universe. That means there would be a high chance of the idea being difficult to pull off satisfactorily.

I totally agree that Rory is not the Master. Absolutely. But the fact that Amy has known him all her life does not imply that Rory is not a chameleon-arch-human, since we know from Derek Jacobi’s Master that the Master, upon using the chameleon arch, had turned himself into a human child, so it suggests that a Time Lord could turn themselves into any incarnation they like as a human? I don’t know.

Barely even talked about the point of your title my man, I did get a lot of insight from this video of yours though, so I shall write what I feel it is missing... Everyone has the choice to be The Master, including someone as "weak" as Rory. The opposite is true, anyone can be The Doctor if they truly desire to be. Like you said, it's people looking for connections, and then getting what they ask for. What connects me to Doctor Who enough for me to write this? The Doctor, his TARDIS, and the people he brings/meets along the way. The Master is always there, in the shadows, to balance him out. The TARDIS can be broken into a Paradox Machine, it just takes ONE crazy motherfucker to destroy it ALL. Sometimes, we need a Martha Jones to show us the path that must be walked. My new ironic favorite is bringing this theory back after the Toymaker """conveniently""" didn't mention Rory (only amy) in his puppet-synopsis (and having the master inside his gold tooth). The idea that Moffat was ever planning this reveal over a decade ago is already such a crack-pot theory, but that *RTD* would bring Rory-is-the-Master back like 12 years after the character's last appearance (which I did just see someone talk about) is so beyond this world I can't help but enjoy it a little.

I had this idea for a Classic Doctor Who & Classic Battlestar Galactica crossover fan-fic a few years ago, which had the 4th Doctor (there's a sort of funny 3rd Doctor cameo), Romana and K-9 encounter the crew of the Galactica, who have mistaken Mondas for Earth (featuring both the Tenth Planet & Invasion type Cybermen). Meanwhile, the Master (strangely in his Dalgado appearance) has teamed up with the Cylons (who turn out to be distant cousins to the Cybermen. Incidentally, I'd love to see the classic Cylons make a guest villain appearance in Doctor Who, outside of Battlestar Galactica), but the Master is, in fact, working for Count Ibis (who is also the Black Guardian)... The Master is pretending to be his previous (Dalgado) self but is actually wearing a mask to hide his crispy form... Also, here's a theory, Missy was never the Master (not saying that to diminish the character or the gender change), but rather, she was the Rani all along and had been brainwashed by the Master into thinking she was him... if so, it could be a way for Missy (and the actress) to return... as the Rani..!

I don't know if it's a theory, since it's basically confirmed, but Clara's echoes thru the Doctor's life enables you to play a little game with all the episodes, classic and modern: When watching, try to guess which character is The Clara! Necessarily, this assumes that the Claras *don't* all actually look like her, the ones that did were strictly for viewer convenience, really they can exist in many forms, human and alien (at least one of them was Time Lord, meaning she could have fought in the Time War; maybe SHE was the one who sent the new regeneration cycle to 11!), male and female; all that is required is that they are one of the people who help the Doctor save the day, sometimes at the cost of their lives... So, Duggan could be Clara, for ex. So could Oswin, for that matter, or even the Brigadier? Looking back on the eps (did anything state that Clara ONLY incarnated up to that point in the Doctor's life? That is, could she *still* be doing so, well into their future?), what one-off guest characters could you identify as The Clara?

Here's my terrible Season 6 pitch: The actual storyline centres more about Amy leaving Rory for the Doctor entirely. As a result - we're given the twist that Rory is the Master. But he's always known that to some extent. He knows he's destined for evil & misery, so he put it behind him. He hid in the body of a regular man. He met Amy & he saw a future. It was the Doctor repearing like Mr Steal Yo Girl that eventually pushed him over the line to compete with him. Not only does River being Amy & Rory's child explain her regeneration - but it confirms that Rory would win Amy's affection in the end anyway. He'd have set himself down the path to becoming to Matser again - then halfway through have it confirmed the journey is pointless. But in for a penny, in for a pound. He takes on the Doctor, the inner insanity - those feelings of inferiority lighting a metaphorical fire under his ass.

I had a random idea that Clara was the Master after Simms goes into the portal, gets split into all the different Claras, and later regenerated into Missy and the further I got into it the more plausible it sounded and ended up better than Clara's actual story. It's a fun exercise in writing.
