Gaming Pastime reviews Hard Corps: Uprising for the Xbox Live Arcade on Xbox 360. Hard: Corps Uprising is one of the latest entries in the Contra series.
Developed by Arc System Works and published by Konami, Hard Corps: Uprising was released for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network in 2011. Uprising retains the classic and challenging gameplay of previous entries and shows the series can still hold its own. Run, jump, shoot and try to survive an onslaught of enemy attacks as you make your way through eight action-packed stages.

I'm really grateful for rising mode, by the time you finish it, it prepares you for tackling arcade mode. Just played the demo and was extremely impressed. The intro and soundtrack in general is killer as well! Also the anime graphics. Nice review!

This is my favorite in the series, it's just so slick. Arc System Works should get to do more projects like this and Double Dragon IV!

"Health in a Contra game?" Well, actually, the first Hard Corps had life bars in the Japanese version of the game. I do believe "aim locking" with triggers/L2&R2 was first introduced in Shattered Soldier. I definitely like that feature. It's a shame the game never got a physical release.

+ThePreciseClimber ah, good to know. Never played the Japanese game. Yes, strafing should be a staple for the series at this point. "Aim locking" as you call it. Whatever it's called, it's extremely helpful.

I agree!! I hope that maybe Limited Run Games obtains the rights to make Hard Corps Rising a physical releases. Would be great to play on the Nintendo Switch.

+Gaming Pastime Hard Corps Uprising features a young warrior Bahamut in the year 2613, twenty-eight years ago to the events of Contra: Hard Corps(year 2641). On Contra Hard Corps he is a Colonel Bahamut, was an infamous veteran war hero(because the Hard Corps Uprising and Alien Wars events) known to have staged a failed coup d'état against the world government in 2639. He would later attempt to make use of Emperor Gava's DNA in order to start a new uprising. Bahamut become a terrorist with Deadeye Joe a cybernetic mercenary hired by Him, as part of a diversion in order to distract the Hard Corps while he went on to get his hands on the Alien Cell.... is it the true fate, is the same guy...

Many people brags about the Anime Style of the game (kind understandable), veeery slow movement of the Caracthers and the Rising mode. I never had a chance to play this, but this might be a fun ride!

theycallmejpj You got a good point, but look at it like this. What is the most common games you played? RPG’s, Adventure, performer, fighters, and Side scroller ( and not to mention there are many license anime games that you don’t need to be a fan at all to enjoy ). They most commonly have those quirky chibi anime looks to them ( most of them but not all of them ) And they end up being one of the best if not the best games and that’s mostly comes from One of the best developers in the industry that we grew up on like Capcom, Konami and even Nintendo for example and again they are Japanese developers. So being turn off by is foreign looks and not just enjoying the gameplay which is really all that matters at the end of the day it’s just really Nitpicky.

Arc make good engines and games, but their art styles are often disgustingly "anime". and ironically their best game in my opinion is HnK which is a trillion yen manga, but being from 1983 is much nicer aesthetically than the post-2000's garbage aimed at high schoolers. if you think "most games" have "chibi anime look" then you should play more games, and probably more old school games. compare this game to the original contra, or contra 3, or shattered soldier, and they are night and day. in my opinion, Arc make good games, but their art style is far too japanese modern anime for my tastes, as well many other people

theycallmejpj No I never said all the games have the anime look to them and I have been playing fair share games Ever since the mid 90s including first person shooters ( it’s been ages since I’ve played a real time strategy game the one that a Big PC gamer ). I have played just about all of The contra games And the one on the PS2 and in my opinion it they have some typical anime dialogue momentsThat I do find Really charming never too distracting just because I’m playing a game. yes I agree and do enjoy the aesthetic’s from the older animes then I do that from 2010 and on words. Probably because I was born in 89 is the reason but Even if I didn’t I still would Still choose the school animes Over the new ones And at the end of the day in this modern time, don’t really judge a book by its cover and keep if you are a true gamer ( i’m not saying that your not a gamer man, just saying as a metaphor😅 ) and keep a open mind especially when people is praising the game for and I’ll just leave it At that.

Go watch Black Lagoon &/or Dororo to change ur mind about anime. Less focus on power level & less stupid unneeded exposition. They are both well written dark stories.
