The box itself is excellent! BUT I’m not a fan of the 50 amp auto reset circuit breakers, I replaced them with midi fuses. The large Anderson cable is connected with a very tight bend! I replaced the terminal with a right angle one for a better connection. I filled mine with 300ah lithium cells and a jk BMS. Just wish the box had battery posts to connect a inverter, I currently run it through the large Anderson! So I pretty much modified the box in the first hour of it arriving and no doubt voided my warranty! 😂

The box is well set up for modifications for those who have the knowledge/skills. Potentially hasnt voided warranty, but worth checking with HardKorr ~ Lauren

Can you charge the box using solar while attached to a portable fridge simultaneously? What I'm asking is that could you charge the battery while drawing power to the fridge at the same time. Very informative and good video 👍
@SnowysOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can, it just means it won't charge as fast, but you can certainly have solar going in whilst a load is attached. ~ Ben

Finally getting a canopy put on the ute So now the fridge can stay in the canopy instead of the tent. For weekends, do you reckon a battery box is the way to go or a power station like the Rover etc? Cheers.
@SnowysOutdoors26 күн бұрын
I personally prefer a battery box as you can upgrade of replace the physical battery when it eventually dies, instead of having to replace a whole power station. If you have some electrical knowledge, its easier to customise how it wires into your system, etc The power station does have a convenience factor though and appeals for the plug and play style nature of it. ~ Lauren

Thanks for the brilliant video. One question and not sure if I missed it but are the connections fused ? As in the usb’s, 12v cigs, and Anderson plugs? Thanks

There are some inline blade fuses under the lid, Nick, and it would be relatively straight forward to add more if you wanted to do so. ~ Ben

What modifications did you make? I was under the impression an inverter can plug straight into the 175ah Anderson?
@Binzy-jq2xq Жыл бұрын
@@CJFranciss No modifications to the box it self, I just made up some O gauge cable with a 175 Anderson at one end a some good cable lugs at the inverter end.
@2389benny Жыл бұрын
Just bought this box and that’s what I’m doing also. Running a 2kw inverter and induction cooktop from it. Box has everything you need and saves the hassle of custom wiring and fusing everything.
@Binzy-jq2xq Жыл бұрын
@@2389benny I wouldn’t run high amps for long periods from the box as the 175 Anderson is designed for jump starting which uses high amps for a very short periods. The internal 175 Anderson wiring is not that big and may get warm if you ran the inverter over 1000 watts for a long period. I am using a 1500 watt inverter and would rarely get to that wattage. I may upsize the internal wiring in my box once I have done a bit more testing.

How do you connect a dcdc charger to the battery box
@SnowysOutdoors5 күн бұрын
Via one of the Anderson inputs, usually ~ Lauren
@spencerm106 Жыл бұрын
Likely they dropped the VSR due to smart alternators, gives the customer an option of supplying their own or use a DC/DC charger. The charge level indicator is pretty useless as there is no option to select battery type. For instance, if you put in a LiFeO4 battery, at 0% charge it'll still be 12.7V and likely show 100% (for lead acid batteries).
@SnowysOutdoors Жыл бұрын
I think you are right regarding the VSR, better to be able to add it in if needed that buy it with the unit only to remove and not use it. Good point regarding the volt meter, I guess you need to be conscious of the type of battery you are using. ~ Ben

What fuse size is in the box. I ran into a problem with my Kings Box when using 40A DCDC found the fuse on the Anderson plug inside the box were only 30A so naturally blew them.
@SnowysOutdoors7 ай бұрын
Only the 12v cig outlets are fused, the Anderson outputs/inputs arent fused but they do have 2 breakers. Realistically you shouldn't need a fuse, but if you want to add one in you can do something line an inline on whatever charge input cable you're using. ~ Lauren

Thoughts on running 1000w inverter on the 175a outlet? cheers
@SnowysOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, you probably need to know just which battery you are running inside, gablia2002, along with what you are running from the inverter and and how you plan to charge the battery. I'm no expert on inverters but I think it will chew through power pretty quickly, so you'd want a reliable charge source. ~ Ben

Hi there I have an mppt controller that needs to be fused when connecting to the battery. I’m just wondering if the wires from the 50a Anderson are already fused under the lid or if I need to install one? Thanks
@SnowysOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Hard Korr don't specifically mention anything being fused in the battery box, John. I had a look inside and there does look to be a blade fuse holder on the power going to the cigarette and USB outlets, it's not easy to get to though. I can't see any other fuses in there though, so I reckon it would be best practice to add an inline fuse to anything you power from this just to be sure. ~ Ben

Are these suitable for marine use?
@SnowysOutdoors Жыл бұрын
The ports aren't designed to get wet, but I can't see anywhere that specifies it shouldn't be used in a marine environment. I guess common sense would need to come into play and make sure you have it in a protected space and be aware that anything in a marine environment has a heightened risk of corrosion. ~ Ben

@SnowysOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
I'm sure you could, you'd probably need to use an Anderson plug wired to the control panel which is then plugged into this battery pack. You would essentially just be extending the number of available power outlets. Make sure it's all fused properly. ~ Ben

@SnowysOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Hi John, Hard Korr haven't tested these in order to be able to give an IP rating. They are designed to be installed in a sheltered location, the ports on the exterior are not weatherproof. Ideally in the tray of a ute or boot of a vehicle. If you are taking it out of a vehicle for use at a campsite it is best to locate these out of the weather under an awning. ~ Ben

If you charge from a solar panel, does the battery box regulate the power coming in so it doesn't overcharge the battery, or is that anything to really worry about? I'd love to get something like this in lieu of a portable jackery style power station that lacks much battery capacity while avoiding the mess of cables in bigger setups. This looks like it would do that job.
@SnowysOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
You'll still need to use a solar regulator between the solar panel and battery, Travis. The Hard Korr battery box doesn't have any built in feature to manage this. ~ Ben
