Yep, thought that for a long time now. The "everyone else" would include Lennon, Bowie, Reed, Young, Newman, Waits... All great songwriters, but Bob's in a class of his own. Just genius. And still doing it. His latest album confirms it. Nobody can ever touch him. I'm glad we agree.

David Schaefer By the time I got to see him he’d stopped making this much effort! I was 9 years old when this gig happened and was only interested in ABBA! This was filmed for an Old Grey Whistle Test Special. I wish the BBC or Bob or whoever has the power to release it on DVD in HD would do so. It’s my favourite gig EVERRRRRRR!!!!

I was there that day. Idiot Wind damn near did me in. Hitchhiked back to Colorado Springs in the rain with the kind of best friend few people are ever blessed to have. Got home about a quarter till dawn. Miss you Bushka. Met a woman with your name on Memorial day...felt you there. The honeysuckle is blooming with the roses today. This world isn't better without you, but I'm sure you're better without the world.

I was there as well, came from Colorado Springs as well. I remember the community feeling as we all stood around for hours waiting for the show. People were passing out black garbage bags for raincoats when the rains started. Various substances were shared by anyone around. I was with a few of my best friends. It was an amazing day all around.

Thank you for making this concert available. This is one of Dylan's best live performances; "Shelter from the Storm" is outstanding, and "Maggie's Farm" and "Idiot Wind" are right up there also. I love his singing on these songs, and his guitar playing is a revelation. Howie Wyeth and Rob Stoner are solid as the rhythm section. Don't get how some people panned this concert and the "Hard Rain" album. They must not get Dylan, or are among the crowd who booed him at Newport in 1965 & Manchester (Royal Albert Hall concert) in 1966. Their loss! Dylan at his finest here.

This is the power of enthusiasm and passion. Those vocals are so joyous and fresh, he is seemingly SO wanting to be on that stage with his friends, old and new, singing his/their lungs out in head coverings, versus what you often see live with people phoning it in, it just makes the thing an absolute joy to behold.

This one was the day before Bob's birthday. I was at the Ft. Worth concert the week before, on a eat at the edge of the aisle and through a fluke I got to meet him (during Joan Baez's solo set he came out and pulled up a chair and on the other side of the aisle 5 feet to my left). At a break, I summoned up the courage to say, "Hey, Bob, happy birthday next week." He turned to me and smiled sweetly...but also, without his glasses, he was as blind as a bat. After her set, he quietly left, appeared on stage a few seconds later and the review went on!

Bob Dylan is on fire here! Listen to this, and then put on the Clash singing "London's Burning"! I could imagine Joe Strummer listening to this at top volume, reverentially, stunned silent from the power, and then recording and finding his voice in Clash recordings and his own solo stuff, like "Gangsterville" from his first solo album...and let's not also forget Roger McGuinn's CARDIFF ROSE which came out not long after his involvement in this amazing tour of live shows. Surely, there has to be a box set of material from this series of shows. I was surprised when the album came out in stores years ago after this was shown on TV, and it turned out to be only one platter, although I thought it was released as a two platter set for a very short time. Could I be wrong?

Thanks for this incredible post. I've been a fan of Dylan and Baez forever, but never seen such a great video of them singing together. So cool that they chose to sing on the same mic, it really ups the urgency and dynamism. I saw comments relating the song "Deportee" to today's current events, and also saw some comments saying not to make that connection. Anyone who knows or hears for the first time “Deportee (Plane Wreck at Los Gatos)” can hear for themselves the relevance to today. This historic song by Woody Guthrie, documents the lives of those who pick our crops and are denied basic human rights. The song was made famous by Joan Baez and perhaps we should allow her performance and life’s work to stand on its own without divisive commentary. Baez appeared just last month at a large rally in San Francisco for the “Families Belong Together” movement, protesting the illegal separations of young children from their parents at the southern border. Search on youtube “Joan Baez sings and thousands march for refugees, SF on June 30, 2018” to hear her, still speaking the truth and standing up for the “deportees” as she has since the 1950s. Baez, who is of part Mexican heritage and marched with MLK jr in the civil rights movement, has remained committed to her ideals. She is one who has “the courage to stand up for the truth, the real truth and nothing but the truth.” Everyone knows that US agriculture benefits from immigrant labor, including ‘undocumented’ labor, to the degree that without those workers, many crops are rotting in the fields today, due to lack of workers. The caravans coming north to our southern border are not “Mexicans”. Most are refugees from Central American countries, where conditions are dangerous and violent. The caravans themselves were organized to give a public face to the people seeking asylum. The caravans publicly arrived at ports of entry and officially applied for asylum. The US government violated international law by closing down applications for asylum and arresting those who took a further action of crossing the border between ports of entry. It is not illegal under international law to cross a border to seek political asylum. “Pressure on the government of Mexico to get their act together” took form under Bush and Obama with a program called “Plan Frontera Sur” which had the US assist Mexico to build a system of checkpoints and barriers along it’s southern border. Over the last 10 years, Mexico has been working hard to stem the flow of people fleeing from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador where murder rates have skyrocketed amid clashes between warring street gangs. But the number of people in danger has overwhelmed Mexico’s efforts and they lack the funds to locate these people in Mexico. So, there is no “unofficial effort to invade our country like the Visigoths”, that’s just a paranoid fantasy. Everyone in the Americas knows that the income inequality and the lack of development in these southern countries is determined by economic realities where these countries struggle to earn foreign currency through their exports, while their people are paid far less than US workers to make products we consume in the US. Their political reality and form of government is wholly controlled by US foreign policy and subsidization at cost to US taxpayers. One reason these countries are so violent and destabilized is due to US intervention. For example, in Honduras, location of the largest US military base in the region, the Honduran military overthrew the democratically elected leader, with support from the US. Human rights are the only thing that matters. Once we violate those rights, we lose what makes us who we are as believers in freedom and liberty. I can hear these universal, eternal ideals strongly in the voices of Baez and Dylan, who could have just sung songs without such profound meaning and still made their money. But they chose to sing the truth and fight for it because they believe in us and the future.

Amazing. Dylan and Baez is mesmerising. Thanks for the upload. I managed to see him at the London Palladium in 2017. Time has a'changed, but anything he has lost he has replace, and some. His voice seems to get more and more appealing to me. He sat at the piano for most of it, abusing it in an amazingly clumsy, care-free way. His moves were unique. His band was beyond together and free. I've been to many special gigs, but that one always rises to the top in my memory of music. I had to try hard to be in the moment. It worked. He goes beyond the hype. What an artist.

There are so many things to love about this concert. The chemistry and musicianship between bob and Joan and a repertoire of great “finger-pointing sings” - just watch his eyes during blow in’ in the wind the magic between them is plain to see; shelter from the storm - brilliant; idiot win- compelling and shocking in its intensity; a wonderful experience all round…….

i love how joan is playing capo’d up the whole time. besides showing that she truly understands the harmonies deep in her consciousness, it shows a trust and familiarity and the deep connection between the two. her absolute freedom to play on top of and between and amongst bob. there is deep musical trust there, it’s hard to imagine other folks being invited to duet with dylan and having the audacity to capo up and add their own voicings to these songs. but joan’s voice is written into bob’s music at this point going on two decades. those harmonies aren’t just embellishment, they’re overtones that are there whether she’s present to extract them or not.
