Gordon I have worked on several of those freight liners, and a lot of them had a ground wire from the ground post on the starter to the block right next to the starter. Also, the ground studs that Freightliner uses on their frames. Are a problem, I usually cut them off and drill a hole, and then run the ground directly to the frame, I try to put a star washer between the ground cable and whatever I’m grounding to ,also, I’ll put some Noco battery protector spray on there sometimes, FYI, don’t use stainless steel fasteners when doing electrical work stainless steel does not conduct electricity very well. Whatever I have starting issues on anything I want to look at the wire itself, cut some of the insulation off of the battery cables and check the wire, if it is black or green, then it is causing resistance and resistance is heat, good luck and take care

Another informative video, Gordon. I like your thought process and how you go about finding the issue. Been watching the last few videos you've posted. Great to see you working on your projects. As always, anticipating your next post and wish you the best!

I had a similar thing with my Fastrac tractor and it turned out to be the copper connection between the solenoid on the starting motor !

Get you some fluid film. Fluid film is a rust prevention spray that is non conductive and great for keeping cable ends from corroding.

Question, i wws told that if you welded on anything electrical you have to disconnect the Battery, T or F ?
@57bagre Жыл бұрын
No, in most cases that would not be necessary. The current from the welder will only pass between the weld and where the ground clamp is attached which should be as close to the spot to be welded as possible or practical. It would be a good idea to do that where sensitive electronics are close to or sharing the same ground path where you are welding.

Please do an alternator and starter rebuild video. Also where can i purchase a rebuild kit for the starter and alternator?

Hopefully I can get to that this winter. All of the parts for that are on the workbench waiting for a chance to do videos on that.
