Lyrics:
Let us pause in life's pleasures and count its many tears,
While we all sup sorrow with the poor;
There's a song that will linger forever in our ears;
Oh! Hard times come again no more.
Though we seek mirth and beauty and music light and fair,
There are frail forms fainting at the door;
Though their voices are silent, their pleading looks will say
Oh! Hard times come again no more.
'Tis the song, the sigh of the weary,
Hard Times, hard times, come again no more
Many days you have lingered around my cabin door;
Oh! Hard times come again no more.
'Tis a sigh that is wafted across the troubled wave,
'Tis a wail that is heard upon the shore
'Tis a dirge that is murmured across the lowly grave
Oh! Hard times come again no more.
'Tis the song, the sigh of the weary,
Hard Times, hard times, come again no more
Many days you have lingered around my cabin door;
Oh! Hard times come again no more.

Beautiful. As a professional musician, I have always loved this song. In a bit of black depression at present. Your version came up by chance on my feed. Thank you for recording this beautiful song. ❤❤❤

Total perfection. The most beautiful arrangement of this song I've ever heard.

Both of the principal singers have beautiful voices and capture the pathos, suffering and longing in Foster's song.

I have only heard older versions before, it really is a beautiful, melancholy song. Like "My Old Kentucky Home", it has that unique Stephen Foster sound, an experience that can bring a smile to the face and at the same time, tears to the eyes.

@@colomont88 Yes, and it's too bad that they felt they had to change a word (which ruined the rhyme) in order to be "politically correct". The original words are: "Though we seek mirth and beauty and music light and GAY, There are frail forms fainting at the door; Though their voices are silent, their pleading looks will say Oh! Hard times come again no more." Everyone should take a lesson.........both from the song and it's meaning, and the sad fact that someone felt they could not use Mr. Foster's original lyrics.

I am one of ten children, and we play instruments and sing together, but we never hope to be this good! I not only enjoy your wonderful music, but I also am fascinated at the way y'all interact with each other as a family- Ithink we have alot in common! Keep singing for God's glory!

I've heard and had my heartstrings tugged by this song for years, but your interpretation has incredible power. Thank you, not only for sharing your musical brilliance, but for the respectful bit of context you gave us at the end. Tonight's the first time I've heard the Annie Moses Band, but you're now on my "go to list!" Blessings, Chris

I've never really cared for this song all that much due to it always sounding so hokie. I understand the historical timeline in which it was written. This arrangement reached out and grabbed me to the point of feeling the pain in Foster's life and then identifying the pain in my life. I think Stephen Foster would have highly approved of this rendition. I was never more sad to hear the last notes of this song fading into the distance than I was here, leaving you lost in your thoughts. And that electic guitar/violin duet though, a combination very difficult to blend and they did it perfectly. Kudos!

Was inspired to look up "Hard Times" after listening to America's theme on the Civilization 6 soundtrack, and stumbled across this gem of a video. Absolutely love it - the lyrics add another layer of meaning to the already simple, but catchy melody. First video I watched of yours and became a subscriber soon after :)

HARD TIMES Hard Times (Come Again No More) Stephen Foster Let us pause in life's pleasures and count its many tears While we all sup sorrow with the poor There's a song that will linger forever in our ears Oh, hard times, come again no more. 'Tis the song, the sign of the weary Hard times, hard times, come again no more Many days you have lingered all around my cabin door Oh hard times, come again no more. While we seek mirth and beauty and music light and gay There are frail forms fainting at the door Though their voices are silent, their pleading looks will say Oh, hard times, come again no more. 'Tis the song, the sign of the weary Hard times, hard times, come again no more Many days you have lingered all around my cabin door Oh hard times, come again no more. There's a pale drooping man who toils his life away With a worn heart, whose better days are o'er Though his voice it would be merry, 'tis sighing all the day Oh, hard times, come again no more. 'Tis the song, the sign of the weary Hard times, hard times, come again no more Many days you have lingered all around my cabin door Oh hard times, come again no more. 'Tis the song, the sign of the weary Hard times, hard times, come again no more Many days you have lingered all around my cabin door Oh hard times, come again no more.

After J sings his last line "hard times" at end of chorus the profound effect yall have created would be preserved if you didnt interject another "hard times" immediately following his. It's not needed. The impression is an attempt to focus on the singer that overrides the focus on song. It is a very very moving rendition. A bit less fuzz tone on guitar. Mandolin might sound good on break. Ive studied the classics and played guitar. Please dont be offended by my comments. I've loved the song and S. Foster since i was 8. Grew up in fla. Shinin shoes in my dads barbershop in orlando. He an edison phonograph. Played all of S.Foster songs and more. God bless and thankyou for the inspiring rendition, gilford
