Surely you J.E.S.T.? 🤔😉 I only got to do the 24-hour course while deployed to Subic with 9th ESB Charlie Co. in 1991. Wish we could have done one of the longer courses, but the Company simply had too many construction projects going on, so we couldn’t spare the time away from out main missions. I went back to visit Subic Bay in 2003, and the J.E.S.T school and facilities are still there, but had been rebranded as a Jungle Adventure experience, but survival courses were still available as well. When I went there, I’m fairly certain that the staff member I talked to was my instructor way back in the day..!

In the early 80's on Oki, we called it the Northern Training Area or NTA. In Subic Bay we called it Jungle Environment Survival Training orJest. Both were modeled for jungle survival based on Vietnam lessons learned and before us born in the 60's Marines could use it, we had Desert Storm then training drifted to Desert Survival and I went to Desert Environment Survival Training or DEST in Kuwait, Egypt and 29 Palms
