Isn’t it fascinating that in Pakistan or India whenever a roadside emergency occurs (tractor is immobilised ) that requires serious mechanical repairs and replacement parts and unsurprising only in those Pakistani/India when a roadside repair occurs do these mechanics gather in droves and without hesitation repair the damage tractor where it’s stranded ( Main Street Highway) leaves me speechless with admiration

No such thing as weld prep here, even on highly stressed components like an excavator boom. How much expense and effort does it take to rub a wire brush over the mating surfaces (which should have been bevelled as well)?

Normally I'd agree with you, but with 240v ARC I have seen stress tests done on 1/8th to 3/4 inch plate welded joints, cleaned and not cleaned, beveled and not beveled, same welder for it all, and saw virtually no difference in results. People underestimate the penetration of a good ARC welder/weld.
