A easy way to clean up the algae in the pond is to aerate the water and the algae will disappear. I don't think you should press your luck depending on the mower deck holding you up. If you start sliding, the deck will slide with you into the pond, so you should be safe rather than sorry. You be careful around that pond. I had a friend of mine drown in a pond after the tractor pinned him under the water.

aeration will most defiantly not take care of his algae problem read a book...get some information. You have to get it under control first...it will help curtail it for awhile but its not going to eliminate it...

So my comment is on the pond itself! Not trying to troll. Just looking ahead. Check out Peak O2 pond aeration. Having a small 1/2 acre pond since 1992 and finally being able to install this system this past fall has made a world of difference in the water quality. And saved having to use chemicals to try to contain vegetation. And knock on wood as of now 6/2/2021 there is no vegetation moss on the water surface. I am in Missouri 50 miles west of St Louis. We also had cold enough temperatures that the pond froze except about 20 foot circles around the 2 emitters. That never froze. The water fowl loved it. One day there was so many geese you could not count them hanging out on and around the pond.

A good operator on any piece of equipment needs to understand that there is always danger. That is why you have different sizes of tractors. You understand that because you’ve been doing these odd jobs all your life. It’s hard to convey that over each video. Great demo showing how easy it is for an experienced operator to get stuck and when to get outside help getting out of the problem.

21:30, that's why you use the loader lock Tim, about today's eppisode: i think if that mower had a longer reach, and a weight on the opposite side of the bucket to balance each side, you wouldn't have to drive down so close and get in troubble.

Great attachment and great video! As for the pond, I found through experimentation with my own pond that the easiest, quickest fix with the best results is a powerful underwater bubbler or two, depending on the size of the pond. I have a smaller 1/2 acre pond. The deepest end by the dam is 8-feet. I have just one diffuser sitting at the bottom of that area and with no other changes it cleaned up the pond algae in under 2-weeks and has kept it that way all summer (I just added it this spring). The water is clearer and the fish are more active. I assembled my own system using a Hiblow HP-100LL Liner Pump and run it at night only. I have it on 100-feet of weighted hose attached to a MEDIUM bubble diffuser as recommended by Hiblow. Here is a great video on the topic (I especially liked the recommendation to have the diffuser tied to a surface decoy so you can find the diffuser if it ever quits emitting bubbles): kzbin.info/www/bejne/enTan4mZrL-oqq8&ab_channel=FarmerBrad

When ur working on a slight incline that tipsy feeling really gives u a pucker. Have you looked into having the pond dug out? I think it would make for better maintenance. Also for the algae, grass carp love it. When we had a pond we had them and also cleaned out the pond and composted the algae. Makes the garden easier to work up.

Pond maintenance can be a big chore. Especially on ponds that were not done right in the first place and/neglected over time. Tim probably has considered reworking the pond but that’s a big job. We have several OLD ponds on our family properties... and it’s been a surprising adventure learning about how things are now done in my state. So... depending on where you live... it can be a pain getting your local government to work with you on your pond work/improvement/enlargement. Even though it’s your pond... in some states/locales it can be quite the hassle. I know in my state... we have small ponds on our property and even tho the “dams” are tiny earthen things... we still have to get them inspected occasionally. We were talking with the inspector when he was checking the pond closest to the house and mentioned some day we would like to dredge a bit of the pond a little deeper and then add beach sand to make a small area to swim and hand out. He advised us that even digging a pond to “clean it” would require us to file the intentions with the county and it would require approval. Idk if that’s something that Tim would encounter where he lives. Also... depending on your state/locale... you might have to apply for multiple different kinds of permits too. It gets rather crazy. In all fairness... my area might be a lot stricter on these things because our area is one of the fastest growing areas in the country. It’s become a mess here over the last ~30 years.

It appears the PTO driven hydraulic power pack directly drives the mower. Their website doesn't seem to list costs or GPM. John Deere has a PTO power pack. HP20 Series Hydraulic Power Pack: • Thermal switch protects hydraulic system • Rear quick connects • Optional oil cooler unit I don't know enough but it appears to drive a variety of implements. I couldn't find a GPM spec. Has that ever been in a TTWT video? Why mow the pond at all? Maybe just grade the edge & put 40 tons of riprap rock or river stone around the pond? Tractors don't swim well. Humans don't breathe well underwater. Cheers

On our farm, we intentionally leave a wide natural buffer zone around our ponds. As such we are rewarded with a wonderful ecosystem where Red-wing Blackbirds make their nests in the Cattail reeds, where Great Blue Herons visit, where many thousand Fireflies sparkle in the night, and various species of frogs sing their songs. These types of habitats are quickly disappearing and need our stewardship to be restored. Kindly consider these issues the next time you plan to mow, as a wild habitat actually looks quite pleasing.

More than twice the price of a Lane Shark, and would have to add 3rd function(the LaneShark uses 3rd function port, so mods have to be made for either). It has a bit more offset and the fine, and instant, angling is great, but it removes the multifunctionality of using a PTO mover at same time. Would be a fine addition to a fleet of mowing equipment without having to buy a dedicated boom mower, as long as one in the fleet had a FEL. The power pack possibly being able to run some other implement, like a boom saw or sweeper(?), might make it worthwhile for many. Since I already have the LS, I will stick with what I have, unless I hit Powerball/Megamillions 🤑. Great video as usual.

Your bank is definitely an odd shaped on one side it’s kind of cupping and that would be pretty hard to mow. I prefer CYCLEBAR because of the reach and because it goes slow and will cut if you dip it down in the water. This is an interesting option. I still think the sickle bar would be easier around the pond but this would be great for getting under trees and brush. If it goes up 90° it would also be great for trimming hedges and keeping brush at the edge of a property under control. How thick of brush can you do with that?

I would just have the bank excavated back. This cutting of the bank is time consuming and dangerous to say the least.

Great review Tim, I'm wondering🤔 if that brush hog will work on my Vermeer cxt -160 for doing ditch banks. I'll have to look this one up. Keep up the good work and God bless you both 👍👍

The local conservancy district uses Alamo hydraulic rear mount rotary mower with a mid-frame mounted hydraulic boom mower that reaches to 20-feet to do the irrigation ditch banks. The mowers are on John Deere 6120 series tractors and they use a front-mounted, PTO-driven hydraulic power pack.

Beneficial vegetative buffers help to maintain shoreline stability and prevent erosion and sedimentation. Buffers provide good habitats for birds, and help to deter and control mosquitos by minimizing the habitat for their breeding and providing good habitat for natural insect predators such as dragonflies.

Why didnt you have that tank lowered to help keep your weight balance at a lower center point when on that steep bank angle? Every little bit helps. . . .glad ya didnt tip over👍🏻

I was wondering if that was going to happen. I got put into a ditch by a brush hog that the rear wheel wasn’t moving freely. Nobody hurt. Just stuck and embarrassed. Luckily we had a second tractor to do what you guys did. Glad you didn’t edit it out.

I too am plagued with the "I got to get a little closer" mentality, I can see I'd be spending a fair amount of time getting extracted from ditches using this mower... but it would be worth it.
