That’s what I’m saying I do Mentor roulette and get ifrit Ex with multiple sprouts in party Now that’s a real healing experience I HATE how the game is designed where healer dps is an expectation In my opinion, healers dpsing should be an optimization. Not the expectation High level healing is so fucking boring. (It’s really only fun when ur in Rouls with new people and shit hits the fan) When clearing, Your entire plan is to never use a heal GCD. And I think that’s just shit design I just main healer for Q times and so I can just chill lol

might just trigger Yoshi to cut down the healing or even raise efficiency on RDM and SMN. Especially when raising as RDM is in fact technically easier than any of the healers. LMAO So all these just demonstrate how broken they have designed RDM, SMN for their part-time healer ability, and with the aid of PLD and WAR who can sustain without much of the healer's attention.

Stormblood had the best healer mechanics. Lot more variety and fun fights. From Shinryu's dragon heads to God Kefka's HP mechanic.

@@Zoeila I honestly can't say if HW did have better mechanics. I joined around SB and just noticed it more in that expansion. But I agree the gameplay and complexity of the roles were dumb down big time by the time ShB came around and now EW is making it worse.

I genuinely miss having the ability to do complex DPS rotations with SCH. My DoT uptime and then being able to eat my fairy for a bit and bring out selene for a DPS-esque rotation... I just feel so unnecessary sometimes when theres a good tank that knows how to actually, yknow, tank

But that's the thing. People just want to dps as healers so SE shifted healing to ogcd, I want to heal more. I want to use my healing gcd. But then people say the want to heal more but all the talk about how good their dps abilities were in the past.

@@arieltorres3594 I get that, but since there's no easy way to make up for the lack of necessity, they might as well make us feel like we're not sitting there spamming the same skill 800 times until someone backflips off a platform. if I can't contribute via healing, you might as well make it so I can at least contribute a not-insubstantial amount of DPS

The only reason people bring 2/2/4 into most fights is just because of forced role mechanics and that being the default duty finder forced setup. In stripping everything from healers except for heals, regens and shields, you now get fights where you have massive heal checks that nobody likes, otherwise healers just have nothing to do, and even in the hardest heal checks you're RARELY going to see a GCD heal if it's not deemed absolutely necessary, meaning every healer becomes a 1-button dps with higher personal responsibility for mechanics. I don't know how to fix this but it's definitely a problem that will require some form of wholescale healer rework to solve.

Not healer, DPS and tank rework. Notice this clear had no healers. It means healer damage/healing isn't relevant. What does that mean? It means TANKS AND DPS are the problem, having too much healing and mitigation.

@@SubduedRadical I'm not sold on that idea. WoW had some tanks and DPS with insane sustain and survivability but you still needed to bring healers to a lot of content (if not all endgame raiding). I think a prime example of this is boss auto attacks just stop for no reason. To use an example. P8S, snakes 1 (maybe not 2, that one maybe has a couple too many moving parts). The boss just stands there for a good 30 seconds or so doing nothing as you resolve your debuffs. You don't stop hitting him, but he stops hitting you, why? I'm enjoying FF a lot as I've quit WoW now but there are moments where as a tank, I'm thinking if this was WoW I would be getting slapped silly. There is also a lack of incidental damage in FF. In WoW bosses do damage pretty consistently. Healers take their foot off the healing pedal, people will fall over and die. Obviously this varies by healer, boss, difficulty, group skill and classes but, I spent 80-90% of my time healing in WoW the rest was downtime or DPS filler (with exceptions where I was using a build that was DPS to heal). This is speaking from a current content point of view from Wrath all the way to the beginning of Shadowlands where I quit. In 7.0 something needs to change, because healers are not healing enough.

@@QuintemTA Right, but that's my point; tanks and DPS have WAY too much healing right now, which is part of what's making the problem the problem that it is. I'd also argue encounter design - a big thing is we have Wrath of the Lich King big damage spikes. WoW figured out that was bad and so went to smooth the curve (to...varying degrees of success) as well as the healer toolkits. In FFXIV right now, there are these long downtime periods, meaning if the party can survive (and tanks and DPS have as many mitigations or more than healer Jobs do; WHM is especially slim on mitigation), then they can probably heal up before the next damage spike with natural regen and some of their self-sustain CDs that they all have. So encounters need to have more continuous damage as well so that you need a Job around that has a heal they can use every 5-10 seconds, which DNC with Curing Waltz or SMN with Phoenix cannot do. The only part of this that is on the healer kits themselves is that a lot of the mitigation on DPS (I'm more okay with tanks having party mitigation since "protecting the party" IS part of their role/class fantasy) needs to be moved to the healers, and healer oGCD healing needs to be way toned down so that it's augmenting their GCD heals, not entirely and utterly replacing them. This way, healers will actually be healing more (which is what many healer players WANT to do), and you won't have non-healer parties clearing content left and right since the sustain on tanks and DPS will be far lower, especially DPS. You still have some weird Jobs like PLD, RDM, and SMN that have those unique quirks that they SHOULD keep (due to homogenization being bad), but they probably need to be toned down a bit. For example, in PvP, SMN has to choose to use Bahamut for more damage or Phoenix for less damage but some party healing. Clemency and Vercure I'm not AS worried about since people have to go all out on them and dump their DPS to use them. But stuff like Curing Waltz - a 300 potency aoe heal on the DNC that is ALSO doubled on their dance partner for 600 total on an oGCD that requires no loss to use? Yeah...

​@@SubduedRadical I'd love this. Only problem is that story is already a drag on healer, some even get stuck on some instances due to the low amount of damage that healers do. (AST player got stuck on the Xeno fight from STb instance for example). Changing encounter design would also take a long time and a lot of resources. Easiest way to include healers (atm) I think is to make them have smn simple DPS kits and pruning/combining most of their oGCD heals. Then as they properly build the structure for healing centric fights, then we can have fun with actual healing or something. Really want to spend time healing but I often don't get the time to shine 😔

I also hate how dumbed down tanking and healing have become. Tanks dont really have to worry about aggro at all except doing tank swaps. They dont have to position the boss anymore as the boss always resets center. Tanking is literally push mitigation for tank busters and Provoke/Shirk on busters. And with Healers having so many oGCD heals and CDs with no real heal checks.. you might as well make every job a DPS at this rate.

Honestly there direction job design has been going has been squarely down that pit. No complexity, no way to mess up, no little things to make jobs interesting, just make everything have the simplicity of a ranged dps.

my only issue with moving the boss being a big tank responsibility is that it can lead to fights where tanks do nothing but position the boss. Lots of older fights have an issue where tanks just stare at the boss while everyone else gets to do fun, cool mechanics. Modern fights don't have this issue, but they do need to make mitigating incoming damage more involved. Its better than it was in Shadowbringers, but it could still be improved. moving bosses also just feels like garbage because of how slow they move and how they interrupt their movement with casts

I agree that this fight can be cleared without healers is an indication on how healer design is right now. I was a healer main for most of my FFXIV carrier, only having changed to tank/DPS this expac, and, I gotta say, the difference is night and day. Like, I don't think healers need a full DPS rotation, but I can only assume the whole reason healers are like this is because they saw so many people are playing WHM thinking that's peak healer design when, in truth, it's literally the easiest to unlock (it's the only one that's available at the start and you don't need to jump through hoops to unlock). Just give healers an extra DoT to juggle. I know they're trying to move away from them (as evidenced by so many jobs losing them), but let the healers have one single-target and one AoE DoT that's also usable in single-target situations. Having a few more things to manage just takes away some of the monotony.

I like white mage because it's iconic. It has almost nothing to do with the gameplay. Being able to operate on half a brain cell while farming content and watching movies on my second monitor is nice though

Do you realize that giving healer 1 extra dot doesn't change the fact they are still replaceable in this ultimate? a main job of healer is healing, and the reason why dps rotation is boring is because the healing is very monotone and predictable. if the fight has more "randomness" in healing that requires the healer to use gcd healing more, the dps rotation can still be simple since they have to put their focus on something else. It also helps fixing this problem since other jobs cannot have the flexibility of GCD heal like a "true" healer job

If they also add extra randomness then it might be impossible for normal non pros. u could add it just to ultimates but that would make progress in ultimates realy fuking hard if they keep the rest of the mechanics the same difficulty.

This is where a lot of people get it wrong. It's not healer design, it's the design of the other jobs, especially tanks and the design of the encounters themselves. People will just put the blame on healer design because they're bored AF playing the role. SE just needs to give them more to do by taking away the busted ass abilities that invalidates them in content. It's as simple as that.

I understand XIV's point of view to not impose too much weight on healers. Healers can take full time healing in an encounter, but the moment one of them falls, it's basically a wipe. You're operating at 87.5% capacity, you need to heal, and one of them has 0 MP. And not to mention sometimes mechanics hinges on healers (like stack marker or so). They need to balance between healing, MP management, and recovery pace from death. And right now I think XIV is quite afraid of making changes, or maybe they think it's alright at this point. In WoW, for the uninitiated, has a completely different healing dynamic. From start to end of encounter, you're running on fumes. Your mana (MP) will gradually drain during the fight. Having one of the healers fall in combat is still recoverable, the fallen gets resurrected, but in the meantime the healer will cover a two man job, at a cost: MP. You will burn your fumes a lot quicker should this happen. Damage taken is smaller, but a lot more frequent, and you will spot heal a lot more compared to XIV. Honestly the only fix I can think of for XIV's healing conundrum is to do the same with WoW - lesser healing power, lesser damage in 1 hit, more total damage incoming. Although this will make a healer-less fight impossible, I think it's fair, because tank-less fight will also yield the same result.

Uhhh i totally would love that. Its long ago i played Hardcore WoW. Quittet at WotLK but played Restro Shaman back then. Uhhh it was so much fun with Chain Healing, Totems and even Spellcast Downranking where you used lower Rank Healing Spells to save some MP....it was sooooo much Fun Back then. Mount Hyjal Archimonde with the Fear Mechanic or the whole Black Temple and Sunwell. I really miss these Times.

@@DantoriusD we have that too in XIV, but sadly due to the damage mechanic you never use them anymore. Cure, Benefic, and Physick is basically in the trash can. Helios and Medica too. I'm not really sure what's going on in the feedback forums but we can't be the only ones complaining. Considering the lack of changes made and PLL never addressed the matter, I can't help but think that we're the minority, and silent too. I entered WoW in cata, and quit in BfA. But one thing for sure is that every time I'm in WoW, I've never complained about the healing even a single time, especially comparing it to XIV. Hell I've never even complained being wrongfully blamed for not enough healing when it's obvious people keep screwing up mechanics

We're doing what we truly can do story-wise. Self-sufficiency with our roles. Now once we can role-switch mid fight like in the Shadowbringers trailer, the circle will be complete.

They design fights like this and yet Healers can't have a proper DPS rotation because we need 99% of our kit to be just Heals. Since we're SO IMPORTANT. Man the devs really fucked up this expansion with overall Job & Battle Design, and in other ways with their other content. Edit: Sadly, Devs will see this and think: "We need to give Healers more Heals, and lower everyone else's regen potencies"

I don't mind if that's the direction this turns to. Right now it feels like using a GCD to heal means you're playing wrong. If they make fights have significantly more raid damage uptime then healers having a simple rotation would work out since they are just there to keep the party alive. The issue with this is it would require not just fights to get reworked, but every class to get reworked. You'd not only would need to reduce the survivability of tanks and DPS, but you'd also have to allow healers to provide additional mitigation to compensate and still be relevant. It's a very difficult thing to fix without going into FFXIV 2 territories.

I was a smn kiting T7 back when it came out. This was when the adds one shot you, if you were stoned and got hit that was death. It was so difficult for me to get that fight down but I did. Then they nerfed it. That felt like a slap in the face. All the grief that fight caused me and they made it braindead easy to clear. SE has been doing that to the entire game for a few expansions now. They keep making things simpler and simpler. I understand they want to attract new players but you need to stop holding their damn hands.

I already had a good friend who quit the free trial earlier this year by level 20 because he was bored out of his bloody mind playing the early game healer experience. He told me that he was hoping to breeze through queue times by playing heals, only to say to me after he quit: "Maybe there's a reason people aren't playing healers". Point being that even the most unbiased of new players are going to quickly get bored of these jobs too if they keep being dumbed down if that's SE's target audience with all this simplification. We need fights like ARR T7 again, and even old Weeping City and Ivalice raids.

100% the reason I stopped playing. I am a long time FF fan in general. The dumbing down of the mechanics, and classes, began to feel like a slight. For me, this game set itself apart, in the early days, by being challenging in the end game. Something most MMOs left by way side. Then SE began to do the same, sadly.

In raiding, I feel like FFXIV is too much of a Cookie cutter sometimes, and WoW have such freestyle potential that it is constantly broke. I prefer FFXIV raiding, but something a little closer to wow would be nice. Less restrict I mean.

I feel like healer was harder back in the day because we didn't have nearly as much healing oGCDs as we do now. We were essentially forced to GCD heal. Now, we have so many abilities at our disposal, yet the fight design is exactly the same. They never increased the frequency of outgoing damage to compensate for the amount of healing tools they've given us.

cleric stance too, it may have been clunky, but it also made dpsing a commitment and a reward for utilizing the rest of your toolkit well, the reason why scholar was so busted in ARR/Heavenwards wasn't explicitely the fact it had the highest dps potential, it was the fact it had the best overall toolkit for playing around cleric stance (dot heavy+heal pet). I don't nessecarily need cleric stance back but i would like my dps feeling like my reward for high skill expression as opposed to being the thing all my gcds are devoted too.

@@KyonV13 Yeah, I certainly feel like the healers complaining about this situation are different than the healers that let you die to things like that. Also it's not SOLELY on the healers, it's up to the DPS to help mitigate these things. (Insert meme about Harrowing Hell being solely a heal check)

massive hitboxes and bosses not moving to strip responsibility was only the start man, I'm not hopeful for fights getting any harder in the future anymore after this tier and ultimate.

Tbh thats the reason why the last savage tier was for me the worst ever as Tank Main, Meele Uptime was stupid easy and besides P5S you have nothing to do als tank to place the boss in the right spot.. most of the time im feeling like a meele without positionals and sometimes i have to use my def CDs do not get killed by the "creatives" tankbuster (i like them in the first P Savage Tier more ngl)

The problem with healing currently is that it's expected of them to not only do damage but also keep the party alive. They start with more responsibility to begin with and naturally less people pick up the role because why do something the hard way? This role disparity can be clearly seen in fights that require more of healers such as TEA (where most of the time forming a group is spent looking for healers, followed by tanks (again role with more responsibility). Now, you would say - oh, just make them heal more and decrease their damage; unfortunately that won't work because you increase the mitigation and dps requirements of the other roles, as well as make fight design harder (to put more damage requires more time spent casting/channeling that damage unless you put dots). Essentially the designers are put in a predicament where substantially changing how 1 role works, greatly affects the others - there is too much interdependency between roles. With how things are right now, a drastic overhaul of role design needs to be considered or these problems will keep appearing in the future - making fights seem incorrectly designed and/or tested while the underlying problem is overlooked.

One possible way of solving the problem could be creating fights where you have to deal with adds during your fight with a boss (not as a separate phase like how it's being done in recent times). Adds that would put more damage on the group while also requiring cleaves and therefore reducing the rate at which a boss dies. Unfortunately this idea runs into another problem - adds are generally disliked. Why? Well, there are 2 reasons I can think of: 1) The targeting system of FFXIV is generally inferior to other MMORPG targeting systems, making it frustrating for players to do what they want to do. 2) The potency and ability of jobs to output AoE damage is greatly unbalanced - some jobs/roles are clearly superior in AoE damage output which would make them a requirement for fights that need good cleave. Considering all of this, I reach the following conclusions - either SE needs to consider an overhaul of role design OR they can try to come up with half-assed ways of forcing fights to require healers OR spend substantially more resources creating and testing ingenious fight designs.

If you increase that the result would be that dps deaths are extremely punishing to the point where they would often be irrecoverable (current content); it would also increase the stress on balancing because - oh boy your job better be doing as much as the others in its role during week 1 or yoshi's gonna have to write another apology letter; if it's around 60% right now, how much higher can it go without making the other roles lose meaning in doing damage?; Also believe it or not this might establish some kind of hierarchy among players where certain extremely good dps players have too much weight in a group, not to mention how much stricter recruitment would become for them based on logs. I'm sure there's probably more issues with this suggestion which again goes to show how extremely interdependent roles are currently.

Healers are expected to do damage on fights that have a dps check or speed kills, in ultimates for an example, people dont care if someone is doing negative damage because it ends up helping with a slower killtime and aligning their rotation. It literally does not matter to me if a healer gets a pink parse or a gray parse, as long as they keep the party alive.

Honestly, even Melee's don't really need heals nowadays. When I get hit, I say in chat "Hold it" to the healer. I turn on Bloodbath, turn on Enshroud, maybe pop second wind, back to full health. Giving PLD/WAR those AoE shields, and BUFFING them still seems nonsensical to me. Healers are HEALERS, yet you want them to DPS with the most brain dead DPS attacks in the game.

Tanks in need for all roulettes happens a lot. Usually they only have Mentor or Alliance raids not needing tanks sometimes. I've never once seen all healers needed on the roulette list, even with the so-called healer shortages.

I hope yoshi P is seeing all this. Blizzard made adjustments when they saw keys getting cleared with no healers. Its time we see some actual movement from the team on this. Instead I'm seeing tanks get more self healing. Starting to feel like theyre playing a different game than the rest of us 😢

For the amount of Self Heal and Mitigation tools, the DMG income in ALL Content of FF14 is drastically to low. Healers should 70/30 Heal/DPS. Currently it is more like 20/80 in just all of the Content.

This just shows how poorly the combat is designed in Endwalker. I've been playing since 2.0 and it's at an all time low. It's so bad to the point that my wife and I decided to go play EverQuest instead. It's new to us, so it's finally scratching that MMO itch we've had for a couple years. She's an AST and doesn't like what SE has done with healing in this game.

It took 8 warriors killing content in ARR for SE to start implementing DPS checks (while still snubbing parsing because lol) Maybe this is the straw that breaks the camel's back and makes it so healers are actually fucking challenged? The thing is, even back in TEA, which I argue tests your healing more than most if not all the fights in Shadowbringers, your heals being challenged there would still end up being a GCD spam of broil/glare with your cohealer. Healing needs to be solved in two ways. Way 1: If our reward for minmaxing heals with our tools is to do damage then I want more damage buttons, and I don't care if that means I get a DPS cut. I want to be required to press more than one damage button. Make it so it feels rewarding to hit damage, and not boring spamming of a single button. Way 2: Healing tools haven't been stressed for a long time. They need to start actually stressing our healing tools. For too long you could do entire savage fights with your cohealer banning entire off global abilities from being used, and still only need to use off globals to clear the fight. I think that the end result of being able to use only off globals to heal the fight is cool, but that should still be hard to do. Healing tools actually need to be stressed. The problem is, neither will happen because SE is in a loop of "no one is playing healer we need to make it easier". Spoiler alert, Yoshi P. We hate healing. We enjoy it and then we get to a point where healing is boring and not challenging and then we quit healing. Healing sucks at the top end instead of being the rewarding shit it used to be in Heavensward and Stormblood. If you don't remember, this was Yoshi P's take from before: Yoshida: `So I totally understand that those healers that have a very high player skill level and they’ve really mastered their jobs go into these different raids or battles and when they do have some downtime between their heals they do cast more offensive spells. Some of them desire to have more technical aspects of it so they are more active and I totally understand that sentiment. But of course the basis of a healer is to heal so I think the development team and I have this thinking of getting that sense of exhilaration from doing really good heal work. That being said I don’t think we would do any sort of dramatic addition of offensive skills moving forward. By having these offensive abilities some players, like new healers, might feel pressured like “oh do I have to have good DPS while I’m healing?” or some players might be aggressive like “oh hey you have an offensive skill in your kit, why don’t you use it?” and I don’t think that’s optimal either.` It's time for Yoshi P to stop doubling down because if he doubles down for a 3rd patch on this, healers will continue to hemmorage and this game will die. Though to be honest, it may be past the point of no return on this.

I'm only a few raid tiers deep (First raid was E12S) into healing on FFXIV and the biggest take away I have as time progressed is not only am I discouraged from hardcasting ANY heals (maybe preshields), but mitigations are being pushed away from my responsibility and given to DPS. So like no matter how well a healer does, if the team doesn't mit it just makes the healer look bad. So now we're in this fucked up world where the only meta we have is where I mash a single dps button, keep up my dot, and pray my DPS use their mits otherwise I'm getting thrown under the bus because there's just physically nothing I can do to prevent deaths if dps fumble their responsibilities. I 100% think that's why there was that HUGE healer debacle at the start of this last raid tier. Honestly if they just deleted my offensive dps button and made me hardcast heals and weave mits/ogcd emergency heals I'd be ALL for it. Let healers control the entirety of mitigation and healing for the team excluding tanks. What sucks is playing PF is actually exciting (and infuriating) as a healer because you gotta make on the fly mitigation swaps, move CDs around to compensate for the complete dipshits that quadruple mit a 40% raidwide so there's nothing for the massive 100%+ coming up etc.

This! So much this! In latest raid tier SE decided to make content more challenging for healers (using their vision), but did it horribly wrong. They pushed unavoidable damage from the boss up to the point that without properly timing Addle/Feint/Reprisal (insert non-healer mitigation here), you must pop a lot of your own mits to keep people alive, and it can quickly run out of CDs which means wipe. The biggest grudge is that so many players are not used to contiribute to party mitigations. Hell, for a lot of players it was shocking that they had Addle in the first place! Tanks didn't coordinated their Reprisal? Or double reprised the same raid-wide? Too bad, somebody is gonna die now. While it is indeed exciting to always be on the edge, spot healing and saving the raid by juggling your CDs, it is exhausting AF, especially in the Party Finder. Hence why there is a healer shortage for Abyssos. ( yes, you can use your second wind to top yourself off for the Phoenix feather explosion in p8sp2 and not complain that healer didn't 100% you, dummy)

It's not the same group of players complaining. The people who complained about p8s being hard to heal aren't the same people that consider top easy to heal. I've healed both. P8s had a really nice difficulty for healers on release. It's not like top is easier to heal than p8s, but TOP is an ultimate and p8s is savage. It would be a joke if it was easier to heal. DSR had a much better healing difficulty for an ultimate. This is just fight design. I think healer design should go back to focusing more on healing through gcds, bu that's not happening overnight if at all.

Exactly this. Everyone's getting the wrong message. The takeaway isn't "healers are broken", it's that tanks and DPS are broken (too much healing/mitigation on non-healing Jobs) and secondarily, that encounters don't have a damage profile to require healers (consistent smaller damage rather than occasional spikes with long periods of recovery in between them). Consistent smaller damage between the spikes would mean healer spamable GCDs are actually necessary, unlike the current situation.

It goes to show how much stronger non-related roles have gotten in “utility”. The role of a healer has been effectively diminished. People are bashing the class design of the healer when it’s the WAR, PLD, RPR, DNC, RDM, SMN that are overpowered to the point a healer role is diminished. Reduce the healing from these roles or design encounters with healing in mind. The FF team clearly treats role utility as an “optional” button to press when everyone presses them.

I have to disagree. This achievement just shows Yoshi and the rest of the dev-team have no legitimacy when they refuse to give non-WHM healers a DPS rotation that isn't just pressing one button until your brains leak from your ears out of complete and absolute boredom. Tanks having all their sustains don't help the situation either, but IMO it's less of a problem than healer just not being fun to play at all since Shadowbringers.

@@billy65bob I fail to see how healers lacking a DPS rotation of any sort affects healing when most of their healing, optimally, can be done through oGCDs anyways. That doesn't make sense. And even that's variable. If healers not being "busy enough" or "fun enough" because they had nothing to manage, then like half the people in the game who enjoy healing would just play AST, since chucking cards around and managing seals all the time is surprisingly busy, and lord knows their heal output is by far the highest of all of them. Forcing them to GCD heal is a solution, sure, but how does that actually weigh up when half the tanks and DPS classes have recovery equal to what a proper *healer* can do? The problem isn't healers needing to choose between DPS or healing. The problem is they don't need to be in the party because *their role is superceded by the sustain of half the other classes in the game, especially the classes who's entire role point is to be good at soaking hits.* I mean, just put it on paper. What happens when you take something designed to take hits? It takes hits, but eventually dies. What happens when you add to it a ton of spammable sustain? Well.. it doesn't die. What happens when you choose to also give it more options to sustain everyone around it, and force enemies to look only at it? Well shit, now you have something that is the center of attention all the time, doesn't die, and also keeps everything else alive at the same time. I don't know about you, but there's something decidedly wrong there, and it's not that healers aren't needed. Because... like as not, people still need healing.

Commenting on the Healer thingy regarding ToP, it literally shows if you break down the hardest fight in the game atm to only pure raw numbers, it basically tells us we can clear this fight without even a single healer. It kinda baffles me how this game can do something, and people will hate it so much. P5s-p8s there was lack of healers for a bit in pf because of the amount of stuff healers had to do outside of dps, so they made the next content less roles. They made TOP and the fact that you can clear this without a healer shows that they don’t prioritize roles? I guess I can say that comparing savage fights with ultimate fights isn’t fair, nor on the same level, which could be true. All I can say is that it’s a pattern when content is released.

I don't play D2 but I wanted to check out their race to world 1st in the latest expansion since it generated a reasonable amount of hype prior to release. I logged in into Twitch on the date of the release to check it out and apparently I was too late and the raid was cleared... 2.5 hours after it went live. Not saying that D2 raid is easy but it was super anti-climatic that the raid was cleared so quickly.

Everytime they make a role responsibility too hard in a fight suddenly that role is lacking from the party finder. Healings to hard cause theres dots on everything? suddenly less healers, tanking is too hard for some reason, suddenly no tanks. Its already in the rest of the game now. Tanking is the ''perceived'' hardest role to get into because of tank anxiety and the responsibility of ''being the leader'' (also helps theres not that many to choose from) And a game like this is often shaped around what the community wants, theyre always gonna have to pander to one group or the other. The people who want a challenge but dont wanna be flamed for not being good enough, and the people who just don't care and want things hard as possible so they can suffer until finally getting that moment of satisfaction clearing

@@SmoothAsFelt Your “optimization” in savage just consists of building gauge and not losing uses of abilities during downtime. And timing your mitigation I guess, but that is brain dead honestly. All of this doesn’t even fucking matter outside of week 1, DPS have far more responsibility in managing and aligning a proper burst window. You barely have to move the boss cuz it just recenters anyway lol. In addition you can just eat mechanics like they’re nothing, in P8 P1 you can probably just eat every single damage down in fourfold fires and still make it out alive. If you’re a DPS not only would you die, you would significantly contribute to losing enrage timers. That to me is just more responsibility.

@@odinson4184 I would not say tank or dps is harder. But it is often that a tank's mistake is more obvious than a dps's mistake for most of the players base. If a tank died, it usually leads to party wipe since the boss auto-attack the dps or auto-attack the tank with vulnerable still on, or no one soak the TB. If a dps died, everyone usually can still prog the next mechanics and raise that dead guys. A dps dead is only matter when you are pushing for enrage, which you spend a minority of total prog time on, or it is a body-check mechanics, where everyone have same responsibility (tank can still tank LB to save the team if they are good enough, which is kind of an extra responsibility for some ppl).

@@odinson4184 IMO, tanking and healing share an equal amount of responsibility, with DPS lacking behind slightly. A tank has to worry about positioning the boss for uptime during certain mechanics (lesser in this expac as boss hitbox is buffed to be massive). On top of their role responsibilities, they have to do damage as well. All tanks have a 1min/2min burst window, so they'll have to align their burst with raid buffs. Healers like SCH and AST have to also align their raid buffs despite being in the middle of a heal check as well. Not to mention, Tank and Healer are both co-dependent on their role-partners for things like tank swaps and heal / mit checks. DPSes have to worry about themselves and their own rotation. Yes, their job design and rotation is more complex than a healer / tank, but that's because they have nothing else to worry about besides mechanics and doing damage. TLDR; Everyone has to do damage. Tanks and healers have additional responsibilities compared to a DPS whose only job is to do damage aside from doing mechanics as well.

I agree with you about healers being nursed into babies and I think tanks have the same issue. However, ff14 is meant to be accessible to everyone, not just the raiders or RP or so on. Because of how big and varied in skill lvl the player base is we are kind of stuck with baby tanks and healers. The majority of players in ff14 can’t hand tank aggro and true healing. It’s sad cause I would like tank aggro back and healing to be a bit more difficult. I also miss different jobs being more difficult for higher dps.

In practice, it should be possible to have jobs of varying difficulty to play for different player's tastes if the devs did more with them, but that just doesn't seem to be the case now. I was excited when Sage seemed like it might've been a more technical or DPS oriented healer than the other three, but in practice it ended up feeling like just a variation on Scholar. It really shows their intent making a brand new job feel just like the ones we had already.

They should make jobs complex but keep story mode fights simple enough that it doesn't need mastery of the systems. Like how it was in ARR and HW and arguably SB compared to now. Just make it so Extremes and Savages actually test everybody's mastery of their job.

And the nice thing about trusts is that they will use esuna lol It's kind of hard to get through The Final Days when your three-party members get doom and your healer won't even esuna themselves... So, they all die... And then everybody rezzes and this same exact scenario happens two more times LOL And you want healers like this to have more responsibility? lmao This isn't a one-off situation. I get bad healers a lot. A lot of them can't even do the bare minimum. I personally like to heal. I have been a white mage since the beginning. I would love to see more responsibility for healers, but I just don't think the player base is really ready for that. Especially since the average healer has a hard time pressing esuna or keeping regen up. I was once in a party with a white mage that wouldn't use regen, because it cost too much mana lol

This is where we've come today with some people insisting that out of all jobs only HeaLers Are SpeCial and cannot use their skills. Well, there is a certain element of truth- part is due to the game not teaching new healers the value of esuna. However, somehow in other games healers are able to learn how to use similar skils - and it just part of their normal responsibility- and if they do make a mistake- somehow- well wipes can and do happen.

The healer is the most important job, because they keep everybody alive. If a healer can't esuna when they need to esuna because they are focusing on dpsing, then that becomes problematic... You need a healer to get through most content in this game. The dps and tank don't matter much. You should know how to play your job by the time you hit 90. There's really no excuse.

@@kaelothsgaming8199 First of all, you do not need a healer in a good amount of the content of this game. Secondly, in the content where a healer is really *responsible* then all roles are responsible - if you're doing Savage for example it can happen that someone missing a mitigation can lead to a wipe. So the concept of the healer as the *most important job* isn't applicable. Not to mention, why would you even assume that healers are necessarily so incompetent that they can't judge when to use their skills, when somehow it can be done in other games?

Finally. Funny enough my friends and I recently starting having fun playing the game again by beggining to go through all of the dungeons min ilvl, level synced, silenced echo, and having no healer. Seeing as the hardest fight in the game was cleared without a healer, hopefully the dev team will wake up and give agency back to healers again. A simple two button rotation would be fine if there was constant raid damage I needed to heal, but since there isn't (and likely won't be) I would like to have a more engaging rotation so I can actually enjoy playing the game again. SB SCH was peak healer design, IMHO, and is sucks how much they devolved from that with ShB and EW didn't fix the issues, either.

The job design dictates how fights are designed. I think the shield/hp healer meta makes it harder to design these fights properly. If you make healing more intensive, then shield healers will be OP by nature of needing the necessary healing over time to keep people alive. SE put themselves weird spot

The shield/regen dichotomy is really annoying to me personally because of how it impacts hard four-person content that the devs assume will be done with a standard light party comp - because of how they can’t be certain you’ll take a shield or a regen healer into something like Criterion or Criterion Savage, they can’t give you hard mit checks. But if you give a regen the ability to make the mit check on a lethal raidwide, then you get into the opposite problem of shield healers being comparatively useless because they don’t have a regen healer’s raw on-demand healing output while both types of healers can solve a mit check.

back in second coils of bahamut it was entirely possible to solo tank almost all the fights on patch (only one fight out of 4 in that tier couldn't). I know its not exactly the same thing than bypassing entirely a role but it still meant 5 dps. Also in the first tier of Coils, the infamous WHM strategy in ADS where you could out heal the soft enrage was kinda wild. Obviously these aren't savage nor ultimate examples, I'm just pointing out flawed encounter design Funniest one being by far when DRG didn't have enough magic damage mitigation to do nael savage, class was basically strictly forbidden in prog because it couldn't survive the meteors drops just SE se'ing

I'd say that Coils was closer to Savage than normal raids from HW and later. There's a reason most people never cleared Coils until you could do them unsync, myself included back in the HW days. I did Coils as a unsynced light party in HW.

FF14 devs need to delete the HOT(Healing over Time) from the DPS roles, DPS dont need HOT at all. Already as a DPS roles, we never asked for HP regen effects, especially since they reduce our DPS for this horrible design error that is the HOT on the DPS rôles and on the tank (WAR ), It's the role of healers to raise HP, not DPS roles or Tank roles, endwalker balancing is totally trash . It's an insult to healers and a silencing of the role this kind of design error (balancing) the devs must understand that in a game it's everyone's own role and stop removing the concept of a role with changes that make the game accessible to primates.

Only reason I like healing in this game is because I play exclusively on PF and so many times you just get parties that require you to go above and beyond to save their butts and get your clear. It is a horrifying experience lmao. I agree healing is too dumbed down, but it becomes more braindead the more you optimize. Try shit parties for the hardcore experience lol. JOIN ME IN PF DAMN IT

Inb4 their solution is removing Cover because Heaven forbid we actually give healers a genuine DPS rotation with actual responsibility. Square still sees us as those healer characters in MMO anime where they go "Uhug I'm scaaaawed I wanna help people! I'm not strong! Waaaaah! ;~;"

I only started at the end of Shadowbringers but even I've seen the result of the horrible change in gameplay philosophy that's been happening probably since Stormblood. Yoshi P is way too smart to let any obvious calamity like say on blizzard levels to happen but think back on the guy from the noclip documentary who said the most important thing was for them to never get complacent and to always be creative thinking. What we have here in EW gameplay is EVERYTHING cookie cutter and formulaic. Not to mention jobs, they even went back to old dungeons and raids to remove difficult/not obvious puzzle elements. How did this happen? I wonder whose been complaining about difficulty and inequity so much that they ended up at this conclusion....That sort of irony is almost worthy of one of the games story archs. Its almost like they've become Elidibus or something.

I do feel like the earlier dungeons needed some clearer marks. Not to make it "easier," but to introduce a lot of the markers that were added in later expansions so they actually know what they do by the time they reach that expansion. It was to the point that early dungeons weren't reflective of the style of content in later dungeons.

Please never justify actual poor design just because you think it's more interesting. If something is a tankbuster or a stack marker or a spread marker or a specific type of aoe, it should be obvious. Even savage raids make different types of attacks obvious in various ways. Many ARR dungeons had mechanics that were even ignored. (Copperbell is a prime example)

@@kats528 They removed the dungeons and changed them for paths. The only dungeon left is the variant dungeon. The rest are just a single path inside a dungeon. Nothing to learn. Just go and run like a maniac. To add insult to injury now bosses auto center themselves and the hit boxes are huge. they are basically removing all game aspects and making it a non interactive entertainment. Fun is measured by decisions per second. I can say without a single doubt that the game is being optimized into being boring.

Role responsibilities are cool, but they can also be dony poorly. E6S tornado baiting smoge. I always respected healers for doing the role I don't want to play but... the more I hear about healing in this game, the more misplaced my respect feels.

healers need a buff, or other classes need to take more damage, or just take away the sustain healing off tanks. this proves that you can go through majority of the content with out a healer... ive gone thought final dungeon bosses with out a healer... like the only time a healer can actually enjoy there selves and use most of there CDs is on a wall to wall pulls.

You don't even need a healer in w2w pulls, at least as a WAR, didn't even need it in SHB tbh and I'm speaking from exp. In SHB I was able to do dg fairly easily with 3 dps 1 tank and during boss fights even keep the party mostly alive. Now that's even easier, so honestly you don't need a healer like at all.

Not all of the tanks, just the ones that aren't DRK. And it's just to close the dps gap, so that people will play something other than DRK.

I disagree with the comments, like so many fights in this game have been done without healers, in optimized parties abusing specific mechanics and knowing exactly how to minimize damage. Healers could use more interesting dps and maybe some times forcing gcd healing. Its how fights are designed in the game in general to deal with mechanics coming in bursts.

I very much understand their need to make tanking and healing accessible. They are important roles and the least played (in every game) but for fuck's sake can you make only ONE in each role low engagement? I'll even settle for the opposite, make ONE engaging. I was mainly tank and healer since 1.0 and nowdays I can't stand tanking and healing is sucking my soul out. Original AST concept was ENGAGING even if it wasn't super well implemented, nowdays it's almost entirely Malefic.

Agree with xeems, as an ex phys range main (brd then swapped to Mch in Shb) O11s was my favourite fight, I had so many different things to do cause of my mobility. Nowadays Phys range are just buffers/ lower output dps and the lack of casts/uptime dont matter cause every job has mobility out the ass now.

Healer are fine, it's just the tank design. Example in random daily: good tank can carry everything and healer only use some oCD to keep them alive. Bad tank can mess everything up and healer had to use every single heal spell to heal them. Remember the Design is for common player or casual, not for Raid or hardcore player so there are different in Ultimate raid and normal.

Tanks being good at their job isn't the problem. Don't demand other people get nerfed just because your role is bad. If anything, it should have only 1 healer instead of 2 healer in most content, so they actually have to press a GCD heal for once in their lives.

If a game is going to have a global race, then having the same starting point is a no brainer. You can argue about the relative advantage of observing another team while you have to watch and wait, but at the end of the day any professional is going to want control of the situation in their hands. Rather than watching someone else's strat and going from there, you want to be the one pioneering the ideas if you're one of the best in the world talent wise. Nobody finds splits interesting, and at the end of the day all people want to see is the top groups in the world meeting the same challenge at the same time and seeing which group is better. The more layers you add to confuse this and make it harder to tell who actually won, the worse it is. That's why the FF14 setup is nice, because you get a week of gearing/story out of the way before hand, and then everyone can dive into the main challenge on equal footing and have an actual race when it's released globally.

I have mine small and minimalist and I’m 33. As long as it works for the player then I don’t think there’s anything wrong with whatever UI set up someone is using. 😊 Although some that I’ve seen have been a bit… unique, to say the least.

This wouldn't be possible if Healers would have to use the abilities they have the most of (healing abilities) instead of using the abilities they have least of (dps abilitis) If a healer in this game consists of dpsing and sometimes healing in short bursts. Then they should have mor dps abilities imO. Healing isn't fun tho if you just press the little amount of dps spells that you have and occasionally some heals here and there while you have like 20 of them.

I will believe everyone's complaints that healing is easy when healers aren't always the last filled role in pf. If fights required more gcd healing then imagine how bad of an experience it would be playing with your typical pf healer that refuses to heal for their parse
