One thing I've learned doing high level group content (or anything challenging in life, not just gaming) that's very apparent in these malding clips, is that pride is what kills a raiding team and/or someone from improving. This imagined version they have of themselves as this perfect player that are above the rest, but then reality hits them in the face that they're either not special at all or below. Whether it be how they actually are or due to external reasons which they have control over or not (you'd be surprised at how many bad daily life habits that might ruin something unrelated there is), it's a dangerous mix. Oftentimes that anger at themselves go out at others, and when people point it out it's like punching a bruise you made yourself, which is unpleasant for both you and them. Never bring your pride into hard group content and accept that you might be average or below, or that you need to get your life together before having people rely on you. Best way is to make light jokes about your own fuck ups and be honest. If you can joke about yourself and what you do, you'll generally just be a more pleasant person to be around outside raiding too and likely also be open to improving without that pride in the way.

I'm the white mage in clip 3 and originally linked him clip 4. The main issue that caused the first clip was because the streamer, our samurai, would very often fuck up in nidhogg and get a dd and wipe us and no one ever bitched or yelled at him and then hes the one who decides to blow up on our tank for fucking up in p7 frequently. That was the reason our raid lead blew up at him lol.

Learning to raid with people can be just as tough as learning the mechanics of the fight. People have different ways of communicating and different expectations, getting all of that to align can be tricky. I've definitely been unreasonably annoyed at people and also have been the one to fuck up alot, but I do put in extra effort to be as consistent as I possibly can to try and minimize the points of failure in pulls. One thing that has popped up a few times for me while raiding with friends is people getting irked because I noticed someone do something consistently wrong and then I've pointed it out, usually in a way of "By the way x you need to be on y side for that, but I notice you keep ending up on our side" and then later I'd maybe get a comment or something where someone would go "You called that out but yet you were in the wrong spot for z mechanic for the last few sessions and we didn't pull you up on that" If I'm not noticing that I've misinterpreted a strat or how a mechanic works, I want to be told and have it clarified, sometimes if something isn't just outright killing you, you won't immediately know that you're fucking up. Different parts of a fight are understood quicker by different people, like yes please let me know if I'm consistently making the same mistake during prog. How else do we learn if we don't talk through these things? The exchange described above is what really starts to get me pissed off in raiding because it sounds like stuff is being said/not said out of spite for some sort of petty/bitchy reason, which just makes me want to leave once things take that tone. I don't know I agree with yelling being acceptable ever, but you should be able to talk about eachothers mistakes without it becoming too weird.
@ralk70482 жыл бұрын
One of the best ways to look at challenging content like this is to incorporate criticism as a part of the system. You can only gain from others picking up errors you can't spot. Not a hardcore raider, but I have experience with this kind of problem in teamplay, in a different game (e.g. Guild Wars 2 structured PvP). It's understandable in a way though, any competitive game mode creates this kind of strain. Communication is always such a tricky thing, especially when you're raiding and you cannot just let mistakes happen, because the whole team will suffer consequences. Just having tact is not enough, you need people that are open to criticism, and then people that can stay cool under long hours of failure. Not easy. It's a hallmark of immaturity to take things personally like this, and the defence is so vicious because they are trying to retaliate for what they believe to be an assault on their personal beliefs of competence. According to actor-observer bias, they believe it's not their fault, it's the environment. And you pointing out their mistakes is attributed entirely to your intentions and not because of the difficulty of the game creating mistakes and players being human. Once you learn to see outside of yourself and have empathy for others, you have the tools to manage this kind of failure in a group setting, but it's not easy. Everyone is learning and struggling and it's unfair if someone has to take more responsibility and tend to others' psychological needs, especially when it's not appreciated or even regarded as unwarranted.

For the people asking “why are they getting so mad and yelling”, just understand the people on average are spending 80 to 100 hours in instance doing DSR if not more and it’s a 20 minute fight. Now if someone you’ve noticed is struggling and making mistakes throughout raid but you keep it to yourself until the 18 minute mark, I don’t blame the team for getting frustrated because I’ve been there. People need to put themselves in that perspective and see if they can keep calm, luckily me and my static did.

Honestly they weren't mad enough, if I was that raid lead, as soon as that Dark Knight said they were sorry, if I were that raid leader I would have said "Don't care, stop wasting my time, stop wasting the time of our group and stop being a dumb fuck and learn the fight." That Dark Knight is prob some double digit iq wow rat.
@GianinaoBoss2 жыл бұрын
Finally someone with common sense. As a static leader for years I've seen numerous problems and one of the most common is the lack of empathy for a problem that can affect anyone on the team such as the internet drops during the raid, or the most common someone dies from lack of attention by a bad day. We have to know how to deal with it, there are times I've died on purpose to overshadow the guilt of another team member dying a lot, and I went to talk to the person alone later if he was tired if he needed to change the raid time or even some small doubt/difficulty in the mechanics that can facilitate his performance. Malding someone doesn't solve anything, it just makes the situation worse and makes the atmosphere tense, only do it who doesn't want to raid and plays with ill will as if they didn't want to be there.

Sadly. I've been in groups like that, where people need the extreme positivity and need to be pampered and told everything they're doing perfectly and mildly telling them how they should try to tackle mechanics. At the 3rd day trying to prog extreme EXTREME zodiark and hydaelyn as they came out, we weren't even trying to go savage raiding and they took those 2 extremes as practice for savage. Anyways, on the 3rd day i got sick of them messing up and giving this soft ass talk so when the leader asked if anyone had anything to add, i called out the mistakes directly instead of beating around the bush and told the 2nd healer, 2nd tank, dragoon and ninja what they were doing wrong, then we tried again and it was even worse so we called it a night because everyone lost their morale after 3 10ish minutes attempts. However this was a group of friends i was helping do ''hard'' content because they wanted to improve, so i spent the entire week teaching them rotations and babying them while they were forced to do dummy rotations. That week took years out of my life and they still can't take it if you don't beat around the bush to encourage them but at least they've improved enough to not make me stress, but they're very slowly prog'n and still stuck in A5S after about 20hs of starting Alexander savage raids.

Progress with this group wasn't good, we raided for a month and only made it to bjcc enumerations. We kept having issues with members leaving and needing replacements, so I decided to disband it, once again going on pf and clearing 2 days later....There was no malding, mostly just disappointment. I just told peeps that we didn't do well that week and the disband message was very chill. At least an apology is admitting you're fking up, but adding unnecessary pressure to someone who's already trying to get their act together isn't going to help them get better. Either the person having difficulties needs to take a second, ask questions, or come up with an idea to help them get to where they want to be. The person raging can check if they're alright or need anything, but raging and crying about it like a lil kid having a temper tantrum isn't doing anything but making everyone feel uneasy and uncomfortable which can lead to even more unnecessary tilt and wipes.

xeno "how's this bad" first clip Let me explain. The FFXIV community's definition of toxic is literally ANY form of criticism (even constructive criticism) is toxic. But yes you are right its not bad, tell that to the rest of the community tho

@@XenosysVex ye they are most of the time in a lot of rosters i been through, but if its a common occurance then ppl will speak up about it naturally. Nothing super negative ppl jus be like "stop greeding the mechanic and do it till ur comfy then try greed" or something along those lines
@totallynottrademarked52792 жыл бұрын
I mean most people that think this are condecending assholes. The problem is tone through text is completely lost. Or people that want you to play 100% efficiently when it really does not matter. If you really think about at least savage, even if every person only messes up once at the right spot that is still 8 pulls and if that is say 5 mins into the fight then you have flushed 40 mins down the drain on the same mechanic. If you can't have the patience for that then you really need to just find a sweatier group. Though those will break up all the time due to people's ego trips.

On a side note, this is pretty tame. If you can't handle the stress of an ultimate, gtfo. If you know the person is fucking up fix it before it gets 18 minutes into the fight over and over again so you can clear. Personal responsibility aides team responsibility. But yeah, own up to the fucking mistake, don't give an excuse, and simply just do better. My pet peeve is blaminging someone else for your death.

When a group is consistently failing in voice chat constantly bantering with side chatter is when I get annoyed. Just shut up and focus. Do fun time later. Spending more than one lockout on a reclear is abysmal. Side chatter causes wipes. Change my mind.
@808pitfallseed2 жыл бұрын
Side chatter only causes wipes during parts where you particularly need to be focused. If your group doesn't suck most side chatter shouldn't effect you much. Sometimes you really do need clear coms like nael or something but otherwise you should be able to get away with it in a good portion of savage at least and in like the first phase of the ultis
@808pitfallseed2 жыл бұрын
If you're wiping a lot though yeah it should be avoided but if you're not and it's not a hard phase which at least in savage most stuff isn't really that bad it shouldn't be an issue unless your group all has attention issues lol

@HikingFeral2 жыл бұрын
When you begin to be effected in this way over a game, it's time to play something else for a while. I'm not saying stop playing and delete your account, but download some totally different genre games like Doom eternal, Ace Combat 7 or POE and just play them for a bit, games are meant to be a way to unwind and who cares what collection of pixels you have or not, none of it actually exists except as a collection of variably modulating electric currents inside a massive group of NAND flash.

I think people go in with just a different mindset so they think this is malding. When I personally go into a raid I'm thinking I have to perform to the best of my ability because7 other people are expecting me to be at my best. When I get called out for shit, that's on me not anyone else. If I'm pissed I'm pissed at myself for allowing it to happen. I may not talk much after and that's not because I'm mad at them calling me out. I'm thinking of how to make sure that never happens again. Next day my mind set is ok whatever happens I can't make a mistake at that part again. If people take it personally for being called out then perhaps that group is not the fit for you and you need to find a group that goes at a slower pace but again it's never other people's fault. I know I get that others may ot share my mentality and that's fine, but I think it resolves some stress on yourself in the long run instead of being salty about someone calling you out on mistakes which we all make.
