Running 200km a week for 50 weeks (how long it took Russ) is still only 10,000km, and Russ ran 16,000. He’d probably be able to based off running ability alone but he’d struggle

Good chat overall but I do disagree that you think professional marathon runners couldn’t do it. Clearly there are a lot of elite athletes, particularly runners, that could achieve it, but being capable and actually putting the graft in and doing it, including all the logistic nightmares is another thing entirely. It takes a huge amount of mental strength that I do believe makes russ special.

professional marathon runners and ultra marathon runners aren't the same people
@greedyboi011
@greedyboi011 Ай бұрын
@@georgeg4202 at no point did I say that. But you thinking someone who spends everyday of their life doing exercise professionally can’t build up to running an ultra marathon or multiple marathons a day is really laughable. Eddie izzard did 27 marathons in 27 days and you think kipcoge can’t do this??? Don’t be stupid. Would they want to do it is another question entirely, but particularly when pace is not an issue it’s much more a question of mentality than physical ability.
@moelester2817

Yeah its logistically what makes this hard (obviously EXTREMELY physically enduring too), but to say professional marathon runners like Kipchoge couldn't pull this off is laughable.

Never mind the physical toll on the body, its the mental attrition to keep pushing the physically arduous trek through sickness, injury, uncertainties, logistical nightmares, fear of death, financial worries... all of it. Pro ultramarathoners could in theory do the miles certainly but theyd be alot more sanitised, safe and secure compared to how Russ managed the feat and that is the difference.

As if Kipchoge couldn’t do it, there are plenty of marathoners running well over 200km a week that could do this. They’ve been running that type of volume for 20 years as well in some cases. It’s still mindblowing, but to say Kipchoge couldn’t do it is just wrong.
@mattwiper

A lot of pro marathon runners probably could do it in fairness. Kelvin kiptum was running well over 100 miles a week at a lot quicker paces. But he’s the first so that’s all that matters really

Bro Kipchoge/Any Elite marathoner would easily do it, it’s just about whether someone wanted to do it in the same way Russ did. Don’t think some of you lot understand that Ultra running and the training elite marathon runners do every week isn’t actually that different in terms of mileage. Russ was averaging 28.7 miles per day, some of the elite marathon runners would do fairly similar. Think before he died, Kiptum was doing 25 miles per day most days including Interval sessions which Russ obviously wasn’t doing. Without doing hard workouts, body/core exercises they could easily run it in far quicker times. There’s just no social/economic motivation to do so for many not to mention logistics for passports etc. You lot clearly don’t have any knowledge on elite marathon runners training.
