Hardest God to Play? - Age of Mythology

How do you choose which god to play? Initially probably which one looks the coolest, and has the most fun myth units/ god powers. But the best way would be to choose one that fits your playstyle.
It's also best to pick a god from each civ, so you can have the most fun and versatility. Also gives you a big advantage in random god games. My personal favourites for each civ are Zeus, Isis, Thor and Kronos.
I’ve split the gods into categories by difficulty, play style and best strategies in a tier list. If you'd put any of the gods differently on the tier list let me know in the comments!

Hades actually has a very strong (prolonged) classical fight with shades. I'm not sure how helpful your ranking of "best strategies" is because it depends so much on the matchup. Greek will always boom against Ra for example and are slightly favored in that matchup, but are usually forced to classical fight against Norse.

Best strat I found for Set is convert aggressive animals to harass enemy villagers, wadjet for the upgrades, then late game you mass elephants, chariots, and slingers. The elephants soak up damage and body block enemy units while archers take out anti cavalry. Works great in my experience on Voobly. Your archers and migdols are cheaper, and you really just need to focus on gold

I used to play with Set and Loki all the time as a kid, to the point I’m better with Egyptians and Norse than Greeks, which are considered more “basic”. I struggle a lot with Greeks. But nowadays I play AoM like a mythology geek lol I just choose the God with the "coolest" lore and go all in. It just scratches that itch for me. For competitive gaming, I have AoE.

I love the dwarves for thor. They are just as good for food and gold till upgraded, spawn an ox cart, dwarves till out of gold, build a dwarven armory on one side of your tc and temple on the other immediately before you use any wood, set the dwarves you have to hunting, new dwarves on gold, and get gatherers for wood for the rest of the food you start with. By the time you have the pop to need houses you have the wood for it and you only need food and gold to rush heroic then use the mine.

I like massing automatons as Kronos. Mix some murmillos and cheiroballistas to counter heroes and you're pretty much set. Automatons are especially strong at defending vs early raids since they can rebuild each other.

Odin is better for classical attack than thor because of the free flying scouts. On water maps gaia and poseidon enter the classical fight because they are amazing on water. Moreover, all atlantean gods are amazing in the classical age because of free favor, so you can create an army based on low cost myth units, even though gaia is weak against kronos.

I would bump Hades to Medium..the way he encourages you to play defensively and with ranged units can often lead you to nonoptimal strategies. Eventho I enoyed the vid in my opinion not including the Chinese gods is a bit akward, I get that they might be broken, unfun and not recieved well by the community..but 90% of players play a version of the game with them..for that reason Id like to see them included, I dont think throwing them in dismantles the rest of the placements in the tierlist, so I feel like there is no con to that..just an opinion.

Hard disagree on Ouranos. He should be in his own tier of super easy between his teleporting building, stun miracle, and being able to get both Prometheus for Hero regeneration as well as Atlas for military unit teleportation from his tech tree.

If you want to beat him fast in 5 to 10 minutes (it's not that easy but it's easy to practice) Chronos is better, keep in mind that Ra will always go econimic and at least 25 minutes of game you eat

We don't talk about Tale of the Dragon. An absolute farce in civ design, voice acting, campaign plot, and unit design. There are fan made projects out there that put it to complete shame.

The multiplayer players are based on AOM: The Titans instead of Extended Edition. Because EE really has a lot of problems in balancing especially since the Chinese were straight-broken. That's why BoitTV and other high-level players rather play The Titans instead of EE

​@@qt123qt The balance itself is decent, just a different focus on EE ("more flavor by making a lot of strategies viable") than Voobly ("maximum 1v1 fairness for the meta strategies"). However, the game lags for everyone if even just 1 player has a bad computer or bad internet connection; this is also the case on Voobly, but EE has way higher hardware requirements (guaranteed lag if the game is no installed on a SSD). And recorded games play with reduced speed, so it is tedious to cast for content creators. No ranked games available for teamgames and when queueing for 1v1 you don't know how many others in your range are queued so you might wait a long time.

Zeus is as hard as set or Even hwrder still floor, u cant play zeus ar decent lol without apm since its centaur dependent god, the macro is also one of the hardest, zeus is the hardest skill flood god, for the apm/micro/macro required, This gotta be fixed, set is hard because u gitta understand a lot about the god, thor is hard because its weak and ragnarock dependent, but talking about skill, zeus is the hardest one so far

Yeah I get his point that if you have played other RTS you will probably pick greek up easier, but in terms of competing in ranked games greek is harder to play than norse imo.
