TLDR: Please no hate. Well this might get me some hate. This is just my opinion and seeing through the eyes of a new player. I was also a new player to the Monster Hunter Franchise so I'm just saying it from my experience from learning and playing with each weapon. Also there's only so much that I can say within a 15min video, so I might miss out valuable information about a specific weapon. Please do not hate me as I'm trying to helping out NEW players, thank you for reading (if you did read this lol) UPDATE: I did not anticipate how big this video would blow up. Please remember that I'm not trying to hurt anyone here with what I've said about each weapon. Also I did NOT mention any advanced if not veteran techniques because this video is for NEW players and I felt that it was not necessary for them to fully understand the deep mechanics of a weapon. This video is more of an basic understanding of a weapon to defeat monsters. Either way, all of these weapons are great and fun to use. I would love to hear your list of easiest to hardiest weapons as well since we are all different. Thanks for watching guys, please be kind to others and keep on hunting! UPDATE 2: WOW I've just realised that I put up horrible gameplay for the Great Sword 😂 ok you may hate me for the garbage great sword gameplay

I think we all realize this video was not ill intended, however I feel like the information you’ve gotten was from maximum 20 hunts with each weapon (from the clips, I can only say that you haven’t played the weapon enough and understand the mechanics well enough to gauge the difficulty). I think you underestimate the difficulty of most weapons and that’s the backlash. And yes, the 15 minute video makes for over simplified explanations for each weapon which doesn’t help.
@ShortD3vil

Thank you for understanding that this video was not ill intended. The reason why I wanted this video to be oversimplified is so new players will know what they will get themselves into without talking about complex mechanics that might scare them from playing with some weapons. And yes, I might also be underestimating the difficulties of those weapons and as I have said that this is just my opinion, just as you having your own. Either way, thank you for once again understanding that this video is not ill intended.

As a CB main myself, I died inside when he wasn't even using guard points. I also think he understated how much actually goes into making the CB really good. There a tons of skills that improve your game play. I know he made this in regard to new players but the fact still remains that the CB is by all means the most technically complex weapon. With file charging, management, and memorization of all the most efficient combos to deal the most dps.

@@cestlezooicimw That still goes into the difficulty of the weapon though. It's still true only for some weapons. For example the GS requires a deep understanding of the monsters movement and moveset, its a commitment to go for the True Charged Slash while the monster is moving about and if you miss it is a waste. That is not a thing in all weapons. If the monster moves with the lance for instance you might miss a poke or two instead of your big damage dealer. Everyone is saying that their main is easy to use but hard to master blah blah blah. But in all honesty it's true for every weapon. Capcom have been developing these same weapons (with a few additions) for nearly 10 years at this point. Adding new mechanics and moves and overall polishing them, so it's not unreasonable to say that every weapon has an insane amount of depth. I heard a youtuber say that games like dark souls or witcher have a main weapon with insane amount of depth, but honestly every weapon in MH could be the main weapon of a game and i completely agree

Switch Axe main reporting in. I would definitely say the hardest thing to learn (and this applies to pretty much all of the slower weapons) is to learn how big of an opening you have. Axe mode is slow and sword mode is even slower, so being able to learn how far into a combo you can go can be tricky for people who are used to the faster weapons that can dish out move after move. Sometimes all you can do is stab into overhead slash and you have to be okay with that. However, when the monster in knocked down being able to wild morph into a sword mode combo that fully charges your phial feels INCREDIBLY satisfying and not super hard to figure out. There is some management involved, but there’s definitely a flow to it. Prioritize charging your sword mode phials, activate power axe when you need to switch back to axe mode, and repeat. And most importantly.....DON’T EVER RELOAD.

Also as a SA main, I disagree with the “don’t reload” notion. True, you don’t want to be caught in the middle of a Monster attack trying to reload your phial. BUT reloading does come in handy when you are at a good resting point or when you don’t have monster aggro. I usually reload whenever I find myself needing to get an extra ZSD in before my Ampied Sword Mode finish up and I don’t have enough time to switch back to Axe mode to recharge a completely used up phial. It’s a last resort move and it helps with increasing DPS if you like using ZSD.
@yetijunior
@yetijunior 4 жыл бұрын
S T That’s definitely a valid point. In that situation you can always try to clutch claw into ZSD since it doesn’t matter if your axe gauge is charged or not. Granted you do need to have your sword mode charged up, but it’s a great way to burn off the end of a phial charge with some good dps. Now being able to stay clutched is a whole other story lol.

I think it's important to make a distinction between skill floor (how difficult it is to pick up a weapon and start doing okay with it), and skill ceiling (how hard it is to master the weapon). From this video I get that you were talking about skill floor as it's for new players but the terminology might help if you want to discuss the topic further. There are also different types of difficulty, mechanics for example, is how hard things like combos and gameplay are. The bow guns have super easy mechanics but the difficulty comes from learning how to build for the weapons, and which ammo types are effective on what monsters.

@@SubjectE57 I came to the comments section for this comment. doing a segment about this being a "barrier to entry" evaluation at the beginning would probably help to clarify your discussion. As Zimmy said, Bowguns have a rather confusing set of ammo stats, but there are half a dozen guides about any style/ammo you want to play, so the community has almost eliminated any difficulty in getting set up. after you have your build they are basically just point-and-shoot with a quick stick flick when you get low on ammo. Personally I find the micro-management weapons the most difficult (SA, CB) as you are constantly juggling weapon states and charge levels. As mentioned elsewhere, GS is a great example of a weapon that has a really low barrier to entry (skill floor) and a CRAZY high potential output (skill ceiling); its one of the top 3 weapons in speed runs for this reason.

As someone with roughly 400+ hours on HH, I can say that it is a difficult weapon because not only do you need to think about your combos to efficiently string together the proper melodies, when to unleash the buffs and their uptimes, your positioning because you are a blunt type weapon so face is the place but also which horn do you bring to an encounter. Do you focus on raw damage and play it as a weapon or do you consider the buffs a horn has on it because it’s gonna help the team the most. As a friend of mine once put it “A good hunting horn player may not get high DPS, but with their buffs, everyone else more than compensates for it.”

A lot of people say "actually X weapon is harder than people think" or "actually X weapon is easier than people think". If you ask me the difficulty of monster hunter is tied to the positioning and that's an issue all weapons have, no matter what weapon you use you can always learn combos and movements, but what takes the most time is learning where to be when performing those combos. Basically what you said is true, all weapons can hit the same skill celling and that's mastering movement around the monster.

I'd say the simplicity of SnS is always a little deceptive. Like, with Longsword you might play poorly and even know that you are playing poorly and still get a somewhat acceptable result. With SnS you can feel like you've been doing alright and then you realize that the hunt has been going on for 25 minutes and the monster isn't even limping. The issue really is that it doesn't give you much direct feedback and it's very easy to stay alive, leading many players to think that it's just underpowered and moving on to other weapons which is why you see so few SnS mains. It's easy to learn, but even easier to get the misconception that it has a low skill ceiling and is not worth mastering which is why it annoys me that Capcom and parts of the playerbase keep on perpetuating the myth that it's a good beginners weapon. It isn't because it doesn't tell you when you are making mistakes.

As a SnS main, I agree with you in that SnS is easy to pick up, therefore it's suitable for people new to the game. I mean it allows you to stay alive and enable you to do damage. However, it will not feel powerful until you've gotten to the end game. And if you've stuck with SnS until the end game, you'll likely have become somewhat decent with it. I think perhaps very few people stick with it until the end where they have fully awakened and augment Safi SnS with max out cirt eye, boost, WE, atk boost, and agitator.

SnS main, and gotta agree. The weapon requires you to be a weird kind of defensive aggressive, where you are a dodge/block demon but always in their face. You also have to learn timing and movement, but is able to unload a flurry of hits if you can time it all out. I do have one caveat, and that is how the end monsters of these updates make SnS less viable with their sheer health pools. Alatreon has thousands of hit points in solo, and you are against a timer to do enough damage. Definitely where the weapon type feels like it falls off.

I wouldn’t say IG is that difficult to master because know where to get certain color buffs are very similar between monsters(red usually is at the head, white at the legs, and orange on back/tail). But applying the bug into the fight is a must for the extra damage and with the slinger ammo you can buff the kinsects stamina. Also IG can avoid most attacks because it is the ONLY weapon that can jump with a significant distance but you can’t get carried away with your aerial attack barrages since attacks with full body hit boxes mess you up but I think that part applies to most weapons, just don’t get greedy. But yeah I would say IG is more of a medium difficulty level idk that just might be me since I’ve mained IG since it was released in MH4U

LS: Started off as LS when game first came out. Only time I did that one jump attack (Helmbreaker I think) was on complete accident. After completing main story I went on to HBG. HBG: I never went to the cluster bomb meta (tried them once along wiht sticky, spread, pierce, and wyvern, hated them all) and stayed with Chrome Assault II since it had wyvernheart. LBG: My friend also was HBG but SWITCHed to the AXE. I decided to stay hbg, but my friend told me it was a trash weapon (only using normal ammo 3, I agree) so I went to LBG. I picked up Empress “Ruin” for the hasten regen and I liked it more than the “Styx” because while it would’ve freed me from wearing 3 pieces of xeno, I didn’t like its ammo options and went ruin (even though I never noticed any regen lol). At this point I moved on to a “do everything solo” mineset and my friend was like “LBG sucks.” So I went back to LS. LS (the trash sequel): I failed, and hated LS. Wasn’t for me. DB: Only one month ago, and I still hadn’t gotten Iceborne. I decided to try my dad’s weapon, Dual Blades. I had an amazing time and still use it to this da. Got Iceborne 2 weeks ago, and DB held up well. Am about to do defense of seliana and can’t wait for Fatalis (even though I’m no veteran) CB: I decided to branch out and tried the only Kjarr weapon I got from a kulve seige, Charge Blade. It was so much slower, and so hard to use, but I enjoyed it. With school though I haven’t been able to try it much. I am going to start grinding up mats to get some CBs and start 2nd maining it. Idk if we can say that here but... I can use the GS,HH,SnS,L,HBG somewhat decently. (If not mediocre at best) So a thought about them: GS - Study, Predict and Strike. All tails shall be yours. And all true charges will connect. HH - Once you're able to pull out any buffs without looking at the sheet, you're basically using a better hammer. SnS - Slice and dice, but also bash and smash. Your slinger and grappling hook are your best friends. L - Block and Retaliate with deadly well placed pokes of a stick. HBG - "It costs 400 000$ to fire this weapon, for 12 seconds..." Well, also use other ammo types at the right time and gather stuff. Those were my opinion of these weapons. LS,GL,DB,IG,SA don't stick well with me. CB,H do stick but barely.

The trick is to get into different mindset for different weapons - the difficulty lies in the adaptability of the individual hunter to think and plan reaction-based tactics against knowledge of monster behaviors. Some people think Tigrex and Nargacuga are impossible to beat with the lance, for example, because with the lance you feel planted in place; but once enough hunting is done with the weapon and the correct decorations/skills/mindset is applied, both are easily toppled (monsters like the two mentioned above have large telegraphed attacks that can be punished using the Claw Counter, BUT significant investment is necessary into skills like Guard and Constitution, and of course Weakness Exploit are all great ways to make the best of it).

As a passionate switch axe player, I think that its fairly difficult to master. There are a few things that need to be understood to optimize your approach: 1. How to manage your amped state and sword gaige efficiently, 2. Understand the monsters pattern well enough to know when you can safely go in and out of sword mode, 3. Be aware of the fact that more often than not HOPS are your only defensive option and 4. Be cautious of its very tempting long animation attacks. Switch axe has some loooong animations. However, ZSD is pretty viable and consistent whenever you have mantle uptime, this can definitely help to keep the pressure up. Except against AT velkhana. Trying to time the foresight move is quite difficult because you need to predict the next attack and then predict the next attack after that attack to charge and then predict again to get the next level up.

LS is my third most used weapon. (1. Bow 2. Gs) I had some problems with bow, because of the management with stamina and dps. But in the end I was able to speedrun some harder monsters. But LS is still the hardest weapon for me. Even when you "negate" an attack with foresight slash, you can still end up in another one. Lance main here. Just a few things to add to anyone thinking of picking up lance...because it does have some additional pros and cons. Some advantages are lance has good range and fairly precise strikes. Lance can also reach the fastest straight movement speed via it's charge. Lance boasts great defense and high uptime through positioning (leading to some fairly decent dps), lance also does quite well in breaking parts off a monster. Some disadvantages are 3 at a time. A lance can only combo 3 hits at a time which limits the dps some (exempting the multi strike nature of the charge), the slowest sheath time, low dph (damage per hit.), learning counter and superguard, as counter can put you on the receiving end if used against multi hit attacks and superguard eats stamina fast. You also need to know which attacks are blockable too, as this means the lance must do its slow sheath to retreat (or to heal/use items/use slinger). It also eats through sharpness somewhat fast, so you do need to see breaks and openings to sharpen your weapon. For anyone newer to the game or lance, aside from what information the content creator provided, I want to add this information with me trying my best to be non biased about my main weapon. Naturally, there are certain things down the line that make lance and every weapon easier as you advance the story, so I won't spoil that for anyone new. I just hope this helps anyone thinking of maining lance. Note: It's 4 a.m. here and I'm somewhat sleepy so forgive my grammar.

Opinion: insect glaive is easy to learn if you research enough, took me like an hour or so of casual playing and searching up things I didn't understand, like what the buffs do and where to hit to get them, and after you learn it is by far the most fun in the game. Both in mhw and rise. I've tried most of the other ones, and none of them feel as exciting, they all feel repetitive and boring.

Back to IG i accomodated to it pretty comfortably even though i still haven't done any more than 20 hunts so far so i was a bit surprised to see how high you placed it, still have trouble getting the buffs on some monsters tho. I think the main problem is the "theory" rather than the practice but it isn't really that hard

Honestly I would of put lance closer to medium to hard hears why. Lance is the master of controlling a monster through multiple of means and each mean affects. You will feel 4 monster attack later or so. now you can use the lance and do nothing impactful like you showed and get results but mastering need skill eg know which of your 6 counters to use in a split second and how it will affect you. or know can I K.O this monster on my own with the lance. The way you described the lance is like using charge blade with out axe mode or AED and no file charging, or hunting horn with no music. Now don’t get me wrong at face value the lance looks easier then most but once you scratch the surface that when the Lance comes to life

Now I main the charge blade because you can go back and forth between being defensive, offensive, fast, slow, you name it. But on the topic of HH, I love using it in an organized group. I tend to put myself into the role of healing and buffing my team while they just go nuts. And when the opportunity presents itself, the HH does a mean number on a monster's head or any solid parts that break easily with blunt damage.

The longsword is quite easy to learn, but to use it to its fullest potential is still quite challenging. It took me like 100 hours to actually be able to pull off foresight slashes consistently. For most of the base game I would completely botch the foresight slash and just get clobbered. But after about 140 hours I started to master the weapon and now I can get foresights consistently every single hunt. It’s very fun and rewarding getting perfect counters, filling the gauge and doing helm breakers. It is incredibly versatile and doesn’t do the most damage but it still holds its own for sure, foresight slash is your bread and butter and learning to use that will make you a much better hunter but it was difficult for me to time it at first. Some people don’t use the longsword simply because they suck at countering

Okay so here's my take, from easiest to hardest (I'll put easy to learn but hard to master weapon as harder): 14. Dual Blades 13. Great Sword 12. Hunting Horn 11. Gunlance 10. Charge Blade (it's really just muscle memory) 9. Switch Axe 8. Light Bowgun 7. Heavy Bowgun 6. Hammer 5. Lance (it's higher than most because I don't really like this weapon. Thus, hard for me) 4. Insect Glaive 3. Longsword 2. Bow 1. Sword and shield Yes. By far sns is the hardest weapon to master imo. It's not even that easy to learn! Sure you can just go hack and slash it, but so does any of the other melee weapon. It's better to use dual blade if you wanna button smash it.

For CB I'd say that a portion of the difficulties with it are in memorizing certain key mechanics of it, because otherwise the button inputs are simple enough with practice. Then have fun with vaults, (preferably triangle if they're below you, circle into triangle if you need to get over to them,) and when on the ground after staggering the monster, triangle twice, then circle, then repeat until it gets back up. At that point, double circle, (Tornado Slash,) and go back to vaulting for the mount again. Rarely have to even use your Kinsect. I mainly only use it for the buffs so far.

There are things that make a good hunter. The hunter knows the weapon, the hunter knows the team, and the hunter knows the monster. Your play style will noticeably change depending on how these factors affect you or your team. Maybe your team need a Wide-Ranger because they keep carting. Maybe you can be more careless, or careful, so you play a weapon with or without a block. Perhaps said monster is very susceptible to status effects, so you focus on a weapon that can push out a great deal of status damage.

No hate at all, just wanted to point out that Hunting Horn isnt that hard. I started playing HH in MH3U and i found it incredibly easy, minus the song list being hidden behind multiple menus. Since world has the song/note list on screen at all times, its nowhere near as hard as it used to be. As long as u take ur time doing each note one move at a time you should start memorizing which button does what note, and it should be second nature in no time. Great video btw! Any new players wanting to learn the horn: just focus on learning what button does what attack first and learning how to perform ur self improvement song which is triangle, triangle (or Y, Y for xbox players). After u feel comfortable hitting the monster, try incorperating a buff every once in a while. It gets easier as you do it.

I just picked up the longsword today It's quite a fun weapon but after doing some research into its potential I have to say the longsword is one of the easiest weapons to pick up but also one of the hardest weapons to master For example the attack where you sheath your weapon and then press r2/rt has s for 10 frames that is 1/6 of a second However it gets a pretty significant buff to its damage if you time it perfectly and doesn't take up the meter for doing the attack With the long sword if you put in the grueling hours of practice you can get to a point where you don't need armor for defense just skills Of course be mindful of your positioning this is the most important part if you play with other people they don't want to be killed because you knocked them down They don't want to lose out on their big damage attacks either because you knocked them down Try to be mindful of the position of your teammates Also to everyone who fires SOS flares and then complains about a longsword user tripping them when they join beggars can't be choosers put on a brace Jewel

Firstly, keep up the good work. I know how the grind is. Secondly, some constructive criticism. You're looking at the weapons through just 1 dimension. You need to look at the weapon's motion and range, combos and mechanics/theories. For example, it is true that light bowgun has a lot of theories tied to it, but at the end of the day, it's just point and shoot. It's easy to use but hard to understand. Then there's SnS. It is true that it's got quick motion so it's easier to use but the difficulty lies in executing one of the hardest hitting combos of all weapons called the Perfect Rush. It's a very technical weapon because you have to constantly adapt to the monster and hit the Perfect Rush if you wanna use it ideally. I guess what I wanna say is, I think every weapon has its strengths and weaknesses but no weapon is inherently easy or hard to use. Except for the bowguns and bow (a lot of mechanics) I think every weapon is viable from the start and it just comes down to what weapon you wanna choose.

The question easiest or hardest weapon in MH doesn't exist and not universal. Everything depending of your play style and how comfortable you are with each weapon, AND which monsters you're gonna fight. For example, I'm very comfortable with DS, GS, GL and SA. However, I feel better and stronger when I'm using SA, against any monster because I love the weapon. actually every weapon's difficulty varies greatly with the difference of each monsters attack patterns because agility and windows for attacking are a great factor to land a successful hit because a greatsword can be a bad matchup against an ebony odogaron, a heavy bowgun can be stressful against alatreon, but a long sword can easily dance with alatreon's movements so yeah all your weapon skills depend on your knowledge about the monster that you are fighting but if ever you are stuggling fighting a very annoying monster (insert mr kulve i hate that soggy titied monster) sticky 3 is ur friend whahaha

That is true that the weapons' difficulty is dependant on the monster that you are fighting but I'm just looking at the weapon's difficulty for learning how to use as a beginner regardless of what monster they fight. However, I totally agree on weapon matchup against a monster, which is why I love using specific weapons against specific monsters. Great insight man

And just how you play the game like I play aggressively meaning more aggressive weapons click wth me but people with more defensive play style will have a harder time learning more aggressive weapons

2:43 Gonna be honest, I didn't see one perfect rush... and if it has low range, wouldn't that make it harder?? Haha

Simple advice vice from a bowgun main to anyone who wants to give them a try. How many guns will you need? Yes. You can't and shouldn't settle for just one, you need them all. Depending on what kind of agro abuse you're looking forward to dishing out, you need the right gun for the job. Piercing ammo is your bread and butter against long monsters, spread breaks parts easier but it's preferable for shorter and smaller monsters. You can tell which guns are piercing bowguns or spread shot bowguns by seeing how fast the reload and low recoil those types of ammos have in each gun. I hopes this helps

I’m new to the game and picked up on the insect glaive. Love the movement, good to know that it’s not the easiest weapon in people’s eyes 😅

GS main across 3 games here. I can definitely agree that it's probably the most straightforward weapon to use, but a bit more on the challenging side to build an optimized set for.

Lol, I think the opposite with regards to the Bowguns and HH. They're easier because the hard part of those weapons is just going through those tables. I went through all that torture learning stuff in school and uni so tables aren't scary anymore. 😅 I guess it really depends on the player for those weapons.

Each an every weapon is hard to truely master and yet some are harder than others. I see many comments saying X weapon is hard because you have to learn the monsters pattern...wtf that is true for every weapon. No doubt it is more important for slower weapons, but in return they hit harder. I picked the CB because to me it looked like the hardest weapon to use. You need to know the monster very well and also the differences of the phial types and which playstyle and equipment compliments which. Not talking about the insane moveset. Now the CB is the only weapon i can really use. When i take a look at the insect claive, H/BG or HH now, i am completly lost and happy that the CB is so easy to use. XD
