I feel like if you go down the "Create your Faction" focus in this part of the tree, there would be at least (small as it is) a way to super-influence the nation lands you released into being communism and when they turn communism either a choice or an auto "Join your Faction". Then something like, after they see the light of communism" maybe that influences the French and British island (that could be formable nations) into asking their overlords (France/Britain) to be free. If they say yes, (Paradox would probably low roll that likelihood) then they would also get influence from the Netherlands to become communist and join the faction. (Even perhaps some of the nations around Indonesia too.) Though yes, something along the lines of shared resources with those released nations would be nice. Either forever or like for the next 2-3 years / until war is declared on the Netherlands (if not in a faction.)

just an FYI the germans wanted to conquer us in 2 days they failes so they bombed Rotterdam to such a state nearly nothing was standing. this was the 2nd biggest city at the time and gemany was thrreratning to bomb the 3rd largest city Utrecht as the wanted to preserve amsterdam. thus the netherlands surrendered on the 4th day of the war.

Dave regurgitating some youtube comment section history there. Every nation fought and they fought hard. They were either hammered into submission or simply outmanoeuvred. The Naht sees aggressive style of warfare worked and it worked well. It took the entire world at least 2 or 3 years to develop an effective strategy to counter it. Im sure hes joking a bit here, but its not fair or accurate to say that some nations just couldnt be bothered to fight. the French and Dutch resistance were active throughout WW2.

I agree on the comment about communism(tm) not always meaning decolonization. I find it weird paradox insists on almost all communist paths entailing decolonization, before the world wars, and even still before ww2 almost no one in western metropoles would have been willing to just give up the colonies, even on the pretty far left en of the spectrum. we can even see what happened to colonies after a historic successful revolution: the Soviet Union did not let go the Stans or Siberia, which for all intents and purposes were Russian colonies before the revolution, but rather made them fellow soviet republics. I find it much more believable, that almost any European communist revolution would at maximum have resulted in guided "socialist" independence, but more likely the same attitudes towards natives would have prevailed just with a red coating on top. Would make for much more interesting paths that dont feel like punishment if the player were to be allowed to have at least some input on the colonies, maybe making them into "sister republics" or something.

Historically the dutch communists at this time were very decolonial. In fact a member of the CPN is also represented as one of the available advisors, anton de kom. He was a black surinamese communist who had written books about decolonisation and was actually killed by the germans during ww2

actually it's very much based in communist thought of the parties in western colonial powers, whilst some thought they should lead the colonies into communism alongside the homeland most were very much advocates of decolonization,

No matter how enmeshed you are in early to mid-twentieth century european colonial culture, you can not plausibly be simultainiously of the opinion, that you are a communist, and that colonies are good. I think thats clear. BUT what decolonization looks like is very much not predetermined in the way hoi makes it be, i find it not believable at all, that any communist revolutionary governemnt would not at least make an attempt at steering the revolution towards its ex colonies. Hoi just literally plops out nations with random ideologies.

I feel it though to be unrealistic, that any succesfull socialist revolutionary government would turn around to party members hailing from the soon to be ex colonies like de kom, and just be like "thanks for helping with our revolution, good luck bro" obviously at least some effort would be made to assure colonies do not become independent as reactionary monarchies or fascist dictatorships, at least in that way hoi should change things. I hope we can agree on that at least. I still feel that material conditions would have dampened real moves towards independence though, and that history would show my idea of quasi independence or sister republic status to have been more likely (no socialist revolution ever anywhere has resulted in minorities/oppressed peoples being granted independence) but well we can disagree :)

Netherlands didn’t really fold. They kept the bridges tenaciously, then Germany literally leveled Rotterdam by carpet bombing it until it had three standing buildings. The fires burned for weeks. Then German high command said ‘surrender or we will do the same with Amsterdam’. The paperwork was done in hours.

@@brody7714 I guess you got something mixed up here. The Center of Rotterdam was bombed and destroyed. After that and the threats to bomb other cities most of the Dutch's capitulated. Only some troops in Zealand refused to surrender.

Naval Reform doesn't give ticking exp, it buffs whatever naval xp you're already getting. Unlike the Air XP Independence Branch spirit which does give ticking Air XP.

Great playthrough, for anyone annoyed with spies getting captured or killed all the time you can set them to "quiet network" after building up your network to keep all the bonuses and prevent being captured in the future. It also works wonders when you have at least 3 total so the other two can be set on repeated collaboration governments for a "set and forget" thing you can do.

Wrong on one point, Taking Belgium and Luxembourg actually gives you a smaller border with Germany. This is because if you don't take them they will fall in a few days and Germany would just attack you from the south which is more tiles than the 2 you need to defend from the east.

The reason the UK stopped trading is the 'faction traitor' modifier... which ironically you got when they kicked you from the Allies. The game for some reason sees this as you leaving during a war, which is beyond stupid and needs to be fixed. Whenever you're not democratic, you're better off not joining the Allies. That way, at least you can trade and are more likely to get lend leased. Fun fact: the Netherlands held surprisingly well, and the main German paratrooper operations failed. Many were taken captive and shipped to the UK as POWs. The Germans fell behind schedule so much that they completely flattened Rotterdam by carpet bombing, and then threatened to do the same to the other major cities to force a surrender. While the Dutch air force and anti-air inflicted disproportionate losses on the Luftwaffe, they were massively outnumbered and were powerless to stop the waves of bombers.

Hi dave!❤ I think I redescovered how to early war against the allies as japan. You justify on republican Spain. Then, you declare and ask for docking rights and military access from nationalist spain, and start preparing the naval invasion of britain. If france joins, paradrop them or spike world tension and do the Japan faction, then dismantle it and create a faction with spain. I personally finished before 38' with both france and britain capitulated. I played with a division wich has 9 infantry and 3 artillery. The only problem with this strat is that you need more or less 130k infantry equipment to garrison all. If you could help me with that problem I would be delighted. Thanks for all ❤

18:44 not really, most of royalties in a communist country tend to suppress the spread of communism so when the new government take over the head of the royal family will rightfully so be tried as a war criminal. not all of them tho, one of the popular example was that one Chinese royalties that become a normal citizens and join their government, forgot the name. And the colonial thing, it doesn't really blend well with the idea of communism, that's why the soviet help quite a lot of ex colonies in their war of Independence. Most of the popular communist ideology back in the day were globalists and internationalist anyway, with the rise of the idea of international proletariat. Colonialism really unpopular in communists society

Communism' is about workers owning the modes of production and running the state. It grew from a hatred of capitalism and monarchism so they are inherently incompatible. That and communism' does have some nationalism in it, but only for colonized and conquered people. Once a nation is truly free from external influence it sheds all sense of nationalism. That's why communists refused to support their governments in WWI, because they refused to support arbitrary governments run by hereditary monarchies and "democracies." They saw themselves as working class first. Nationality is meaningless to communists, the ultimate goal is to eliminate all forms of government, borders, states and hierarchy, which they share with anarchists, the difference between the two is how to get there. Am czech, i spent some months in netherlands and i love the "hoven" in names. It means kind of "shits" so basically you could translate "kool hoven" as "cool shits", "eindhoven" sounds like "one shits" (german) and i know there was one more that was also funny, but cant remember now. Yeah, childish humour xd
