In this video Elon Musk tells us what is the hardest things that his company SpaceX encounters. Full details are in the video.
Elon Reeve Musk (born June 28, 1971) is a business magnate and investor. He is the founder, CEO and chief engineer of SpaceX; angel investor, CEO and product architect of Tesla, Inc.; owner and CEO of Twitter, Inc.; founder of The Boring Company; co-founder of Neuralink and OpenAI; and president of the philanthropic Musk Foundation. With an estimated net worth of around $196 billion as of February 15, 2023, primarily from his ownership stakes in Tesla and SpaceX, Musk is the second-wealthiest person in the world, according to both the Bloomberg Billionaires Index and Forbes's real-time billionaires list ... (From Wikipedia)
Starship is a fully reusable super heavy-lift launch vehicle under development by SpaceX. Standing 120 m (390 ft) tall and with more than twice the thrust of the Saturn V, it is designed to be the tallest and most powerful launch vehicle ever built, and the first capable of total reusability. Partially and fully expendable variants may also be developed. The Starship launch vehicle is made up of the Super Heavy first-stage booster and the Starship second stage. The second stage functions as a self-contained spacecraft for carrying crew or cargo once in orbit. Both stages are powered by Raptor engines that burn liquid oxygen and liquid methane propellants in a highly efficient, full-flow staged combustion power cycle. Both rocket stages are designed to be reused by landing vertically at the launch pad or at a separate platform ...(From Wikipedia)

What if a giant ring was built that could propel an object into space at high enough speeds to escape Earth gravity, where instead of a rocket we use a disk like flying saucer, which is electrical as opposed to fuel. Also, if centripetal force is gravity, then wouldnt it be easier to escape gravity knowing the direction of centripetal force and using that to our advantage to launch using centrifugal reaction?

100% this man will go down in scientific history as a great creator over all of human history. The fuckin dude made a reusable rocket when everyone told him he's a fuckin crazy man. When I watched that live stream and I saw that rocket land I literally jumped with joy myself because I knew that was a step as large as landing on the moon for humanity. Hell at some point in history this man will probably go down as the savior of humanity. The drive and ambition and true devout desire to extend the reach of humans is absolutely one of the most selfless things a person can do. He's the richest documented man on the planet, most of us would be sitting on a beach in Fiji getting drunk next to our private beach cottage living the good life knowing at minimum 2 or 3 generations are taken care of. But this man STILL chooses to work 16 hours a day running 2 companies and somewhat advising another. The respect and admiration for the pure work ethic and desire to truly change life for people is absolutely tremendous.

I've always wondered if it would be possible to create a launch station on the moon. It seems more plausible to fly to the moon, then we can refuel and relaunch from the moon to Mars or whichever destination. To me, this seems more obtainable than flying one route straight to Mars. Lastly, I'm not sure the time frame one single launch to Mars takes, a hell of a ride it would seem.
@Chazulu2
@Chazulu2 5 ай бұрын
Refuel with what? There's no fuel on the moon, and multiple smaller rockets means more rocket weight and less fuel. If you wanted to travel cross country in 1 go would you dive a second car carrying fuel, or just have 1 car with the bigger tank?
@The8th1
@The8th1 4 ай бұрын
I think we will eventually have ‘refueling’ stations on the moon and other places. Yes, this would require hauling fuel to that location (which uses fuel to transport). But with about 1/6 the gravity, launching from our Moon would require less fuel to go to Mars. We need a lighter and reusable energy source with the same capability as rocket fuel.
@The8th1
@The8th1 4 ай бұрын
@@Chazulu2People drive across the country every day. No one would bring a second car, but Fortunately, we have gas stations because no one has a gas tank large enough or car fuel efficient enough to make a trip in 1 go. Not 1000’s of miles across America anyway.
@Chazulu2
@Chazulu2 4 ай бұрын
@@The8th1 but that's still 1/6 extra gravity to escape for no reason. You would either just go directly to your final destination, or refuel in orbit. No reason to waste fuel going down and back up any significantly deep gravity well. That honestly includes Mars too, which is why colonizing it will probably never happen.

Jesus Christ took on the punishment for your and my sins and died, so we could be forgiven. We didn't deserve it, and we paid nothing. It was by grace. All you have to do is accept what He did! Except for the scientific fact that no human can survive on Mars. Maybe educate yourself. He is not a genius. He is good at marketing and he will get rich ppl in space as tourist for a 40 minute round. Just some basic info for you to understand why a colony on Mars will never happen not even mentioning terraforming Mars is impossible. 1. We dont have technology to protect humans from cosmic radiation and the Sun. You have the luxury on our planet to be shielded from these by a thick atmosphere and strong magnetic field that extends from our planet around it in space. This is why ppl on the Space station can survive for months. Without it they body would suffer serious damage from prolonged exposure to cosmic rays. Their very DNA would break down. Lets imagine a trip to Mars. Even if you manage to protect the ppl somehow over ~1 and a half years on their way to Mars the planet itself will kill them. 1. Mars has a very rare atmosphere - compared to Earth its pretty much nothing - and it doesnt offer any protection from the mentioned cosmic rays and the Sun. 2. Mars has no magnetic field so there you go - another layer of essential protection for organic life is gone - Mars has localized magnetic fields here and there that are very weak and offers no protection. It doesnt have a huge shielding field like Earth with its active metal core. 3. Mars has a much lower gravity than Earth and even if you would manage to provide protection from cosmic rays and the Sun this low gravity will kill you. How? This low gravity enviroment leads to a similar effect than divers experience when they dive deep into the ocean. The change in pressure would kill them because in their blood small gas bubbles would start to develop. To combat this they can spend limited time under water, they have to descend and ascend slowly and they must inhale a special mixture of gasses with added nitrogen to prevent this issue. On Mars because of the low gravity there is a similar effect that you cant protect yourself from and cant change the enviroment. You will simply die because of embolia or stroke. Elon uses Mars because it is a popular choice for a target but it is in fact unrealistic to have a colony on Mars. If he would be serious about this multi-planetary species idea he would target Venus. Why? 1. Venus is closer than the moon of Jupiter or any other potential candidate for a second home. 2. Venus has almost the same surface gravity as Earth ..so you wont die immediately after your arrivel because of your own blood cant handle the gravitational difference. 3. Venus already has a thick atmosphere that offers significant protection. 4. Sadly Venus has a much weaker magnetic field so thats not so good but creating strong artifical magnetic fields locally - lets say for a size of a colony - to have extra protection is not impossible at all and would be feasable today. 5. There are actualy scientific plans that could and work with the development of the required technology. We could send spacecrafts between the Sun and Venus potentially multiple ones that would block out a significant portion of the sunlight. These crafts wouldnt be huge but they would expand a layer of material covered in gold like a solar sail to prove extra surface. It doesnt matter if that surface is very thin it would still block out the sun. 6. The hardest part would be developing drone-like crafts with the specific purpose to intercept ice asteroids - there is plenty of those in our Solar system - and drag them to Venus. This would provide more oxygen molecules to start the actual terraforming of the atmosphere itself which is thick but could be turned into one that we could actually breathe in. On Mars you cant do this because 1. you dont have a thick atmosphere to work with 2. even if you would take the matter required there the low gravity of Mars cant retain an atmosphere and would lose 99% percent of whatever atmoshpere we would try to create there. 7. Also without significant changes we could create a colony on Venus in the atmosphere with the help of balloons. All the listed terraforming goals are required only if you want to actually live and walk on the surface of Venus and you want breathable air on it. 8. All of the actual terraforming would cool down the planet within 80-100 years which might sound a lot but if you think of creating a second home with terraforming another planet its actually quite sort time. Venus estimated to have 10-15 Celius higher temperatures on averages compared to Earth which would be hot but bearable especially if you could walk on the surface and breathe air outside. And from that point you could still work on for a few decades or for a century to cool the planet further down.

If someone comes knocking at our door with relativistic projectiles, our reaction time would be far too slow. If we were spread out through our solar system and colonized the ort cloud, we won't be able to be extinguished as a species with one attack. On top of that, if we don't leave our planet very soon, orbital debris from commercial launches could trap us for thousands of years on the surface. At least if we move into space, we can mine the asteroid belt and bring the materials back to earth without digging into our planet anymore. I agree we need to make the world better as well. But going to space is essential for our survival as a species.

@@williamcopeland4110 exactly. I am baffled why most people don't have the ability to look far enough to concern themselves with the future and just spout sugar coated words like "save the earth"

@@zhongxina9420bruh I'll believe we can live on Mars once we've mastered the arctic, because we still have no sizeable settlements there and it's thousands of times easier than Mars

I tell my kids to shoot for the stars in their chosen careers. Elon is literally doing just that. Good luck to him and his team of visionaries. It’s brilliant seeing someone pushing the boundaries of what previous generations thought was beyond our reach and capabilities. Go on space X.👍
